DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Yeah that's why I time my drives to leave here late at night and arrive in Da World at stupid early in the morning. Or visa versa. We usually drive straight thru. It takes me as long to get from home to Louisiana as it does to get from Louisiana to Orlando.
Yuppers. I’ll never work days. I’m south of the world. Between 6am and 9:30qm heading north it’s a two hour drive. The rest of the day it’s a 30 minute drive.
Heading back, 4pm to 7pm, parking lot. Another two hour drive. The back roads are just as bad.
For me it’s all local traffic, I’m not even heading into Orlando I’m heading away from it on the way home. A lot of people who work in the Orlando, tourist area live south of it. If you live north of it, like the Sanford area, not only are you fighting the locals going to work and back but you’re also fighting the tourists and airport traffic.
World Drive is exit 63, I’m at 55. A lot of times it’s easier and faster for me to go further south on I4, get off at the next exit. From there to my house is mainly orange groves.(for now) and swamp.

It’s like central Florida, Orlando is a two hour drive from Orlando. lol.
Someone from Texas in our CM FB group posted how long it takes to drive from one side of Texas to the other vs Florida. The chart said to cross Florida it’s a two hour drive.
Everyone wanted to know what highway they used, it takes two hours to drive six miles on I4. lol.
I’m off till Monday!! If you need me, I’ll be floating around in the pool and napping in the AC. I get weather updates at work, don’t know why I work inside but I get weather updates, just more emails to delete. lol. the heat index was 118. But it was a dry heat, the humidity was low. lol. I walk about a mile from the parking lot in to where I have to be, I had two shirts and long pants on and didn’t even break a sweat. lol. Next week we’ll be ringing ourselves out again. But on the bright side, we don’t have to shovel sunshine!
Have a good time being off. 🎈 Are you working Wednesday? I have a return I need to bring. Would you be able to help me with that?

Got a receipt? I’m working Wednesday, 8:15am to 2:15pm. I have a register shift. I picked it up from someone who needed the day off. Don’t mean I will be at a register but I will be in the building.
I don’t, that’s why I want to bring it to you. So, I will see you Wednesday then.

Under the 60 day mark. Booking some stuff now. I still find Park reservations annoying. RnR opens up the last day that we're there. Pretty sure we'll have to hit HS that day! Since we are on what I refer to as the crack of dawn flight, we're arriving at MCO ~ 7:30am. I'm getting us a private ride to WDW. Then we'll use Mears Connect to get back to the airport.

Crack of dawn flights are the best flights in the rainy season. The longer the day goes, the better chance of a delay due to weather. They stack up quickly.
Yes, yes they are. lol.
What resort are you staying at?

Yup, I always take the first flight in the morning. I don't usually schedule a park day on arrival, we can spend the day at Springs or just lounging to get into full vacation mode. Although, 2 of our 3 trips we drove to save the $1000 on 4 round trip tickets.
I never flown here for six decades till we moved here. We drove every time. I drove back and forth about six times when we were moving down over two months. The one trip I drove from central Florida to Virginia. Had a reservation for two nights. The next day drove to our old house in Pennsylvania to pickup the last of it before closing and drove back to Virginia. Stayed overnight and the next morning drove back to central Florida. Left on a Monday at 3am and back Wednesday at 1pm. 2200 miles by myself. lol.
Now, I get tired driving to Sanford airport and back. lol.

Ouch.
DW and I usually split the drives. we stop every 4-6 hrs for gas, food, pee breaks etc. and switch drivers so we can just power thru and make it over night. Usually a 20-24hr trip,
I’ll be honest, my wife and I were just talking about this on Saturday. We went to Sam’s club on rt192, when I was a kid and on our honeymoon in March of 1985, we stayed on Rt192. When I was a kid in the early 70s, there wasn’t to many options on property to stay so rt192, now is Arlo Bronson Hwy, was Suncoast pkwy. was a hoping place. Only a two lane road with orange groves dotting the landscape. I miss being a tourist. I miss planning our trips, always had two and three trips going the same time. Getting the van ready, making the drive, staying on property. Driving home talking about what we are going to do on our next trip 4-6 months away. Being on vacation.
It was my hobby. Along with looking at real estate in Florida. From the days of stopping at gas stations to pick up the little real estate magazines to see what was for sale to the days of Zillow.
Now, I don’t look at real estate, no longer plan vacations. lol.
It’s the same way with retirement. It was great the first three months. I would drive to WDW, park at the MK, walk to the poly and do the lap all the way to the Contemporary. Monorail back to TTC and walk to the car. Go into the MK, have a snack, ride the people mover and walk back out.
I would make a lunch reservation at Brown Durby and bring salads back for my wife and daughter. lol. For me, it got old. We don’t go to the parks to often and when we do it’s for a few hours and we head out. It’s really hard to explain.
But, it’s just different now. Now I’ll always run into people I work with or have worked with. Drives my wife nuts because she just stands there. lol.
Not much is a mystery anymore, I know what’s behind that wall, that door etc.
We will stay on property every so often because we still own DVC and it’s like vacationing at work. lol.
But, we love it! We love the weather, the area and it was a dream of mine since I was eight.

Evening, Fellas!

Been pretty busy here lately. Saw that local production of Legally Blonde and thought it was a great show. I admit that I went into the show not expecting to like it, but went because I knew most of the cast wanted to show my support. Much to my surprise I wound up liking it. Still not a show I would have done, but a good show to watch. My DD had her spring dance recital this weekend and I was at all 5 performances, and I didn't mind that. As a father I'm going to support my DD and was happy to do so. I'm also a photographer and used that opportunity to take pictures from the audience, which I probably took well over 2000. To be fair, there were several burst mode moments when I was tracking the dancer on stage as she or he was preparing for a jump. I even asked the director if I could get back stage and take pictures of the performance from the wings, which she let me. Unfortunately that put me in the position of shooting directly into boom lights on either side of the stage, of which there were 3 on either side of the stage. I quickly had to shift my technique and shoot in spot metering, which worked, but I still got a lot of glare and really dark spots in the pictures. I still need to go through them to see if I have a few that are salvageable. Either way I look at this as a learning experience.

Well, gotta run. Up and out the door early tomorrow.

What's the opposite of "doing well"?

Let's hope its not that bad.

And you're not taking advantage of it... shame.

I did take a nap before writing that speech, does that count?

Knew that about you. ::yes::

:thumbsup2

Who's this?
You know what's coming...

Howdy y’all…! :wave2:
My name is Steve.
My bra size is…..
Hahaaa…!!!!! 🤣😉 Sorry, couldn’t resist…!!! :D
I’m 61 years old and have been married for 35 years. We currently reside northeast of Austin, Texas in the city of Round Rock, Texas, within walking distance of our 2 young granddaughters home.
We have 3 grown children (29, 31 and 32 years old)…2 daughters, with a special needs son in between.
As mentioned above, we also have 2 young granddaughters, ages 2-and-a-half and 5-and-a-half years old. 😉
I was in architecture for 41+ years, but am currently at home full time helping take care of my terminally ill, invalid 88-year-old MIL.
Our last family WDW trip, with granddaughters and all, was last October. Oldest granddaughter turned 5 while we were there, and our DS turned 31 while we were there.
Our next family WDW trip is comin’ up at the end of June/early July, and our youngest granddaughter will turn 3 while we’re there, so we’re gettin’ her in just under the wire for free again, one last time…!!! :D

Anyway, that’s the overview.
Time for a beer…!!!!! 🍺8-):D😉

That's a fun one. Our HS did that a few years ago. They actually used the dog from the Broadway show!

I was surprised I liked it, to tell you the truth. I'm not a huge fan of movies becoming musicals, but this one was a good one. And to have the dog from the Broadway show in that HS show? That's cool.

When possible, I always take the first flight out of the day. The longer the day goes on, the more chances of delays.

These morning shifts are for the birds.
Got home at 11 last night from work. Slept about three and half hours and back I go.
I haven’t worked a morning since training, now I remember why. lol.
Today is Friday heading into a four day weekend!!
