Took pictures of the failed(never completed) Roman baths. Didn't pay to go in...wasn't that interested.

Back from the World, and it sounds like I'm one of the few left that will consider going any more...

That said,
we did have an extra two years to put funds away and alter the plans (over, and over and over...) to try and make it even possible. We were paying for four, which is better than six, but still pricey.
They've about priced us out as well, though. Stayed off site this time which helped considerable on the expense side of things, but comes with a few sizable handicaps in regards to taking the best advantage of park time.

We still managed to have one mighty fine time, but there were certainly a few compromises here and there and some things that just simply didn't get done.

So, are we done going?
Likely not, but it'll be at least a coupe years and I doubt I'll be bringing anyone other then the Misses along for the ride again any time soon.

So a good time, but... with some reservations.

Went to Trier. Oldest city in Germany. On the Mosel river. Used to be a Roman city and has a LOT of Roman construction still standing and some ruins.
Saw the amphitheater which was cool

That is cool. Never been there. Maybe next time.

I don't think I saw everything, but I saw enough. All in all, a good day.

Did 180kph on autobahn on the way back...
Way better than a Disney ride!

Morning, Fellas! Short week for me this week and I'm looking forward to it. I work, wait for it... 2, repeat, ✌ 2 whole days this week. I know, I know it's a tough schedule, and you're thinking, "How's he going to work such a tough schedule?" Well, let me tell ya: I tough guy, and I do grown up things. Seriously...I'm on vacation starting tomorrow at 5pm, and I'm soooo looking forward to this. What's even better is that I'm in two of the easiest offices I could be in, Neurosurgery and Gastroenterology. I'm taking the family to New Mexico to surprise my mom for her 80th birthday, and can't wait. This was initially going to be just me and my family, as well as my brothers and their families, and mom's youngest brother, but it's grown to a whole lot more and simply can't wait. Mom has no idea what's going to hit her. She's a retired teacher, and we've reached out to former students to write something nice to mom, and we'll surprise her with those words of kindness at the party. And instead of surprising her at once, we're going to surprise her a little at a time. Me and my family will surprise mom and dad first, as we're the first to get in, and then as others arrive they'll surprise them, so by the time the party happens everyone will be in and would have surprised them. Of course me I'm just as excited for the travel part because I love airports. Well, guys, off to make breakfast before heading to work. Have a good day.

This isn't the first time I've heard this, and it saddens me. I've not been in a very long time, and I really want to go, and will go, but hearing makes me really want to experience the changes for myself and to see what its all about.

Went to the museum. I'm not a big museum person in general and only a few things had German and English text. I had an audio device where I could type in a number and it would give a narrative. Problem is only about 1 out of every 25 had a number. A few things interesting, but a lot of time, steps and stairs for just a few.
Had a nice lunch and a couple glasses of Mosel Reisling (Trier is on Mosel river and Mosel region for wines).
After lunch, went to the porta nigra (black gate)
Found a supermarket and bought a couple bottles of local wines (only 6,50€ each).
Decided my feet had had enough and still had an hour drive back, so headed back to parking garage.

I don't think I saw everything, but I saw enough. All in all, a good day.

So awesome! So happy for you that you get to experience all that Germany has to offer.

Hey guys, just catching up on the chatter. I was in Florida for a few days with my son. We had tickets to go to the Players Championship near Jacksonville on Friday. Of course, they had 3 days of torrential rain. We managed to watch about 4 hours of play before the rains shut everything down for the rest of the day on Friday. Finally saw the sun on Saturday afternoon and managed to spend some time at Disney Springs. It was jam-packed there, too. I could barely move in the World of Disney store. We did take the boat ride up to Port Orleans and had a nice dinner at Boatwright's there. That was a nice way to finish things off.

Morning boys from a sunny London. Had a hefty bout of the dreaded global lurgie.
Still have no taste or smell, so good for weight management.

Ugh. Sorry to hear that, Dan. Hope you are recovering quickly and the rest of the fam stays out of it!

All these years later, I still have that truck, and I do drive it to work much of the time for 2 reasons.
1. My newer heavy farm truck is a 2015 Chevrolet 2500HD that runs on diesel and diesel is expensive.
2. I kind of want to save mileage and wear and tear on that truck because the only way I'll ever be able to afford an upgrade is if I win the lottery.


But after looking at your question, at 14 mpg, $4 per gallon... I might have to do some math...

At what point is it better to hitch the truck to a team of horses?

Didn't I just see that someone recently turned 21? I was in my 20's when I first started coming around these parts.

All I know is, I'm making college payments now. That started way more quickly than I was expecting.

I'm glad you guys were able to go, and glad to hear you had a good time. I'm sure staying off-site makes the most economic sense at the moment.

I think it's the "compromises" and "things that just didn't get done" parts that worry me. At the current prices, the experience should be less compromised, not more.

I'm hoping to wait a bit and see some backlash develop, as well as the pent-up demand for travel to die down. Right now the demand is driving the cost.

Huh! I wouldn't have thought of that. I'd have stayed in DS for dinner... but your idea sounds a lot more relaxing... and you don't need an ADR.

The storm system just seemed to park itself above the Jacksonville area for days. Dumped a ton of rain on the area.

I wonder if that was because of the golf? i.e. extra tourists around.

I doubt it. It's not a terrible drive between Orlando and Jacksonville, but I would be willing to guess most people visiting for the tournament flew into JAX. We went to Orlando because we could get better deals there. And because we could stop by Disney, too.

I'm guessing the Disney Springs crowds were more the usual weekend/spring break crowds. And the parks have been busy all year.

It was my dad's idea, actually. I hadn't been to POR in several years, but it brought back good memories of our stays there. Nice resort. I got an ADR anyway just to be safe.

Big picture, everyone had a great time and we were glad to have the opportunity to get down there. We've also been On-World enough to be able to pick and chose as to what's worth our time.

The challenges showed in the guise of acquiring ADRs and dealing with "The Genie". With only a 60-day window for ADRs, the pickins' were a might slim, although we did catch a resi at the 50s Prime Time with only a days notice (someone must have just canceled one). As for Genie, it grants the most "wishes" to the folks on site. By the time the windows open up for the off-site rabble, the choices can be limited and in some cases, nonexistent (particularly at HS)

They don't care about catering to the Dis-Vets as much anymore as there seems to be a glut of newbies that are plenty willing to pay the current rates for the current returns.

Well, getting close to my trip and I'm nervous because I'm afraid I'm going to forget something, or, worse, not make the airplane, which almost happened once. Talk about a mad dash to the plane. Well, love to talk more but gotta run. I was up early this morning getting things ready, well, things I can get done at 4 am without waking the family.
