DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Look back through all my posts and show me one where *I* said it was too hot. Y'all laugh at me when I say it's too cold. I laugh when y'all say it's too hot.
Yep. Found one right here. You have to go back a few hundred pages, but there it is:

Phew! Is it hot! It's too hot!! I feel like I'm melting! My whole body is turning into a giant puddle of sweat! It's gotta be at least in the high 80s today! I'm dying!!!

I have no idea if this is supposed to be a joke or serious. I am very clueless about DVC
I’m serious they are out there. We bought an Aulani DVC resale contract but we didn’t know about subsidized dues until after we knee deep in it. I know Aulani isn’t for everyone because of Hawaii and the travel cost and all. We plan on doing every other year Aulani with WDW the other year. It’s our way to escape January in Montana.

subsidized dues?

Yeah with DVC you have annual fees or dues as you would with any timeshare. There are some contracts out there that had subsidized it looks like as fall out from this.

Huh! And... whoops!
So it's based on timeshares that had already been purchased, not new buys.
Liar! Liiiiaaaarrr!!!!

is that before or after the post where you said you love shoveling snow and wish Winnipeg got 10x more than they normally do?
No, no, no. You're doing it wrong. You don't announce that you're a liar before you post a falsehood. Sheesh!

You can buy a resale contract with subsidized dues. Just can’t buy a direct contract from Disney.

Ah, okay.
but... 100 points basically means you can only go every 2 years, correct? (Based on a 1 week stay) Since the lowest period is 119 pts/week.
Yeah 100 points is a smaller contract. It really depends on a lot of factors. Party size, when you want to go, and the size of room and view you want. We bought a 220 point and that is the bare minimum for us. It will give our family of 5 one week in Aulani one year in an 1 bedroom island view. (borrowing 25 points from the coming year) and 8 days at Old Key West the other year for under 195 points. We can stay other places but would have to stay less than a week at WDW

Idealy 275-300 points is what we wanted but money was the ultimate factor. We are blessed our kids will be home schooled so we are flexible on when we can go and January in Montana is a lower points cost and a perfect time to escape winter. We are also okay with staying at Old Key West at WDW because it has the largest rooms and we don’t need to stay in the action like Bay Lake Tower or Beach Club Villas. We want to go to Aulani at least every other year or else we would of bought at WDW.

Ah! I like that plan, actually. Every other year you splurge a bit, then cut back a bit the next... but still stay at a Disney resort every year.

Isn't it always.

I have stayed at OKW (rented points) and would have no problems staying there again. Liked it.

Exactly. One reason we did it is it forces us to take a vacation every year with one of the most expensive parts taken care of. Granted you have annual dues but still some of those 1 bedroom villas at Aulani are like $1000 a night. No way I could afford cash prices.

A crappy day. DW's friend's husband died in a car accident. My dad is in the hospital. Only 2 plans so far are d/c to nursing home or home with Hospice.

You sight in the gun at the range first. Good idea. I personally couldn't hit the broad side of a barn, so before house hunting I'd want to practice too.

Bravo.

A difficult choice. Not kidding.

I think the choice is more with my wife.

Acrerage is work. No doubt about that always a project going on or a pop up “oh crap” needs to be fixed. I love my lifestyle and wouldn't trade it for the world BUT it is not for everyone.

Definitely. My grandfather had two plots - one 20 acres and one just a few acres. I wanted the smaller one, but DW didn't want to live that far away. I would keep most of it with timber.

Anyone seen Dan lately?
No reason... just wondering.

West Ham is in #3 spot. Dan's drinking out London.

Just having some fun with you.

Yikes! Nope! For $1,000/night I'd want something that DW would certainly not approve of!

Oh man, that's rough. Sorry you're going through all that.

Morning, Gents! Well, we're back to Monday and another work week. My plan to work from home today and Friday was dashed when I was given a desk at the office to use. Ok, so I have to go into the office....I can handle that.

So I do a lot, and I do mean a LOT of YouTubing. I have an eclectic taste when it comes to watching videos. My recent discovery is a couple that set out to travel to 100 countries, which they accomplished, then COVID set in. Now they're traveling around the country. Totally cool channel, which, I'm sad to say that I got sucked into and have been binge watching for most of the weekend. This have led to other travel channels for me to watch. I have officially gone down the rabbit hole from where there is no return. :teeth: And if anyone is curious, the channel I've watch is Kara and Nate on the Tube of You.

It's a great Saturday. Gun range this AM, house hunting with DW, and tennis this afternoon. It's been a fun, full day.

:thumbsup2

Part of me would rather live in the county on 10 acres or so. Part of me would like the new house as it will probably continue to increase in value. Part of me wants to stay here and not worry about paying more bills. What to do.

My brother has contemplated moving to Tennessee when he retires, but then he got a promotion and I haven't heard anything about that sense. Hhaving a place in the country would be nice, but a lot of work. I'd love to have some space to spread out and not be near people.

I'm ok with working and being busy, but I just don't see how anyone can manage the caseload. And, it only will get bigger. I've managed 20 patients, but some manage 30 patients. I don't see how that is possible. And, if so, I don't want to work that hard at this point in my life.

I get it. The case load is a problem, and one I hope your bosses will figure out at some point.

A crappy day. DW's friend's husband died in a car accident. My dad is in the hospital. Only 2 plans so far are d/c to nursing home or home with Hospice.

So sorry to hear, my prayers go out to all.
