DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
My phone shows 4 degrees outside. Not going anywhere today. Stupid global warming.

Technically I can smell it when the wind is blowing West and you *could* walk...although a long walk.
Can't see it. Maybe build a tower a couple hundred feet tall and you could. :lmao:

That would be a long walk. :lmao:

For the first time in awhile, I really don't have a plan. Sure, I still want to be in Florida where it's warm in the winter. But, where that is and own vs snowbirding will depend on where we are next year.

Hey, guys. Hope everyone's having a good Saturday. Mother Nature saw fit to delay the snow fall, so we got the snow last night instead of during the day yesterday. So my DD could have gone to school yesterday. Look, I get it, the school had to make a choice, and they made it, but it's annoying when they cancel school for a storm that shows up at night and dumps only 2", 3" at most. Ok, enough. Let's see, what's going on in my little part of the world. Well, I, along with the Mrs., remembered that we our first rehearsal tomorrow for a show that'll be video tapped sometime in March/April and put online after that. Since our first rehearsal is tomorrow, we decided that we should start looking at the music. So I've been looking at, and trying to learn, music all day. I feel like I'm back in college. This show is all music from Gilbert and Sullivan shows, and I'm in 4 of the 20 pieces. I'll be singing songs from HMS Pinafore, Mikado, Trial by Jury, Utopia Limited. I know none of these songs, so I've been cramming like crazy. The hard part some of the G&S stuff is all the patter that go into some of the pieces, and that's not always easy to sing. So I've been working hard at it. We'll see how it goes tomorrow.

Morning all.

Not much going on with me other than running around with errands.
My oldest DD on the other hand...

She's got about a couple months left of her student teaching to get her education degree. A week ago, a school called the dean of the university and begged him for someone. DD's name came up as their top pick. So... in the space of a week, she had two interviews for permanent or term positions with two other school divisions, one telling her they wanted her so badly that not only could she pick which grade she wanted but which classroom she wanted to teach it in. Today is her last day student teaching and Monday she will be excused from any more student teaching, reports, etc and will be considered graduated and starts teaching. Bit of a whirlwind and the kid is pretty overwhelmed by everything.

Proud papa time, though.

That's awesome! Congratulations to her, and to you, proud papa!

Sounds pretty wonderful. :)

It was, though it was difficult to work at times.

Proud Dad moment this morning. Hearing my 3 year old son walk around the house singing Zip-a-dee-do-dah to the best of his ability. DisDad win!

That's awesome! Good parenting, Dad!

Can't believe it's Friday. What a week. Going home for some bourbon. I forgot how hard it was to work a 40 hour week

Tough working 40 hours after you've been off for a while, huh? I remember when I started back to 40 hours after not working for 8 months, it was tough.

The Mrs wants to smell and or see the ocean from the condo, or at least be able to walk to it.

That would be great, but there's something to be said about having a place inland when it comes to storms. There's a reason all the sea captains here on the Cape had homes inland. Not trying to scare you off, just tossing that out there.

Hope you had fun playing tag with the dog and the daughter. Or, did you ignore then and work?

I worked, though it was tough at times.

Technically I can smell it when the wind is blowing West and you *could* walk...although a long walk.

When you're standing out front of my parents house in New Mexico and the wind is just right, you can smell the dairy farms. The smell is quite, uuuhhh, well, there' s a smell in the air. 💩:lmao:

Can't see it. Maybe build a tower a couple hundred feet tall and you could. :lmao:

There you go.

Not here. We’ve snapped our cold streak. Today it’s supposed to get up to -4C/25F. Woot!

Got up to -11C/12F yesterday and took this photo. Winnipeg winter:

I've lived this phenomenon before, and it is weird when it happens.

Morning from a Sunny Westfield NB. We went swimming yesterday afternoon, had the 50m pool to our selves, so I got a 3k swim in and helped DD with her swimming lessons . It's going to be about 0C today so I'm heading to the range for some practice. Happy Sunday guys.

Morning, Gents! Had a good day cramming in a bunch of music, and still doing it. I have rehearsal this afternoon so we'll see how it goes. Have a good day, everyone, and we'll chat later.

:thumbsup2 Won't let you down
Good luck with the rehearsal.

Still lots of snow here on the ground, although it warmed up a bit yesterday to melt some. Maybe have pickleball today, depending on whether or not others are able to get out. You all have a great day.

Conversely, 2 inches of snow shuts down our schools for the whole week. Good luck with the music performance.

You didn't. It is a concern, and I have to consider the distance and well. I was looking for that 2nd property as a nice vacation destination as well as a future rental opportunity. The other option is to build a cabin here, and then use our current house as rental property. While we wouldn't own that vacation destination, we would just travel, camp, and then snowbird as a renters ourselves. I haven't found ocean front condos without HOA fees, and I'm not sure I relish paying them at $300+ a month for the next 30 years, especially if I'm not living there.

Morning, boys.
Back at work this afternoon after a blissful two weeks off. Oddly enough, I'm 99% not really wanting to, but... 1% curious to see what's new around there.... Maybe 0.5%.

I wish...have to muck out horse corrals and clean chicken coops. Then dinner with my MIL.
So quiet for 2 of the 3??
:lmao:

Huh. Our schools never close on a forecast. It's gotta happen.

Yikes! Good luck. And post the link so we can hear your dulcet tones.
That's awesome! Congratulations to her, and to you, proud papa!
Thanks!
What's that cat doing to Doc's tea?
Getting ready to add to it. Rhymes with tea.

3k! I can swim, but not that great. Doubt I could come anywhere near 1k.
Maybe have pickleball today, depending on whether or not others are able to get out.
For some reason, I always thought you played on an outdoor court.

7.5 km this afternoon on the treadmill, using a couple of running videos of AK and MK for motivation. Took 61 minutes but it didn't really feel that long.
Not bad! I can't run on treadmills. I find it too high impact. As a result I didn't run for two weeks during our cold spell (I don't go if it's colder than -20). When I ran again (3k on Wed, 5k on Thu, and 5k on Fri) it just about killed me. Hopefully can get back in the groove.

Morning, Gents! Had a good day yesterday, and a good rehearsal. It appears that while I wasn't the only one that hadn't really prepared and learned their music early, I was a lot farther along than some of the cast members, which made me feel better with regards to my music learning skills. I guess I didn't lose it after all. One would think that after years of not having one of your skill sets...uh, pushed(?), streteched(?), I'm drawing blank on the word I'm looking for, but you get the point, that learning music quickly would be difficult. But it wasn't. While I don't play the piano, which would certainly help me learn my music quicker, I can, and do, play my notes...which helps. I even hit a high C, something I haven't done in years as well, and I did that 5x in one hour. That felt good. That high C could most certainly use some polishing and a bit more focus, but considering I haven't hit one on years I thought I did pretty good. Over all it was a good day and I'm happy with what I did. Now on to Monday. Have a good day, Gents, and we'll chat later.

Did you get your pickleball in?

I could see where 2" of snow would shut down school for you guys. That's not something you normally get, is it?

Having a vacation home/condo in sunny Florida would be wonderful. And yeah, finding one without an HOA would be impossible, I'm sure. You said you wouldn't own that vacation destination, why? Are you looking only to rent once a year?

Morning, boys.

Sounds like you had a good two weeks off. Sorry you had to go back to work.

Huh. Our schools never close on a forecast. It's gotta happen.

At one point the schools would close off of a forecast only when it was a blizzard of a nor'easter Now? That's not the case.

Yikes! Good luck. And post the link so we can hear your dulcet tones.

I'm happy to report that all went well with the rehearsal. And yes, I'll post the link here on the Dad's board for everyone to see.

That's awesome! I started running years ago on a treadmill when I was living in Albuquerque, NM. The gym I went to was up on the base of the Sandia Mountain, and the treadmills faced the windows, which over looked the city. It was a nice view. As a result I got good at running, even better than when I was in the military. Ok, it wasn't only because of the view of the city. The cute young lady that always worked out at the same time as me and took the treadmill next to mine, or rather I took next to hers, had something to do with it. Gotta use what you can to get motivated, right? :teeth:

Morning All.

Chilly but nice Monday morning. Too bad I have to spend it in the office.

Have a good one all.

I'm presuming/hoping an indoor pool. I know you Canadians are crazy and think 0C is tshirt weather, but....

I haven't found ocean front condos without HOA fees, and I'm not sure I relish paying them at $300+ a month for the next 30 years, especially if I'm not living there.
Not sure if you'll find ocean front or condo, per se, but I'm pretty sure the apt a friend rented in Satellite Beach had no HOA. It was right across A1A and you're at the beach.

Getting ready to add to it. Rhymes with tea.
Ummm...I think y'all are mistaken...it's someone's coffee and it's trying to cover it up because it smells like....rhymes with (or lisp) thit.

I could see where 2" of snow would shut down school for you guys. That's not something you normally get, is it?
I would've thought KY gets snow often enough and deep enough, they'd be more prepared. I know it paralyzed Atlanta, but it's more rare there (I thought)
