DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
I didn't know about those, I'll have to see if I can get them, cheers mate. The Lady K was disappointed the Cards didn't have an equivalent of the Dillon Panthers "Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can't Lose" Mantra from Friday Night Lights :sad2:
On a slightly different note, did you watch Brockmire? With Hank Azaria? Not a documentary and as rude as you like, but funny as ....
I also really like the 30 in 30 NFL films series. Loved the one about Buddy Ryan and the 85 Bears.

I have heard that about Brockmire, but I don't have access to it: need to line up a free month of Hulu sometime, maybe later this year when the Stephen King show Castle Rock comes out, and give it a shot then. :smickey:

Love the 30 for 30's too... I'm a Bills fan and I think the episode about their Super Bowls was right around the time of the '85 Bears one. The recent one about Parcells and Belichick was so good.

Well that doesn’t sound too painful there, Darcy mate...

That might actually be a selling point for me.

Made it tough to watch the hockey game last night but our hosts have a cabin and there is a TV there. It did take the satellite a bit find the channels though.

It is a beautiful sport, lots of geese though. If you have ever been somewhere that has lots of Canada Geese you will know that you need to be very careful walking around the grounds.

Beautiful spot...even with goose poop to watch out for!

Ahhhh....one more sleep until Disney. I think I can make it. The boards are slow on my phone, so any immediate pics will be on Facebook. I'll try to save some for you guys that don't do the Book.

That sucks. You can always move it back a few days and meet up with everyone at the DDC.
Still have youngest DD in high school, so have to try to arrange around schedule when she's off. On the other hand, maybe do a solo trip...hmmm.
What are the dates for the DDC?

Just a quick check in from beuatiful Dalvay by the Sea in Prince Edwards Island. Board meeting here today and tomorrow and I have a couple of hours before the next meeting starts. Beautiful inn in a house built in 1895 on the north shore of the Island. It is certainly one of the smallest rooms I have been in and there is no TV or clocks in the room.

Looked it up and it seems like an peaceful spot.

Damn kids always screw things up. DDC is the 9th to the 13th.

La Cava del Tequila is terrific. Major anejo tequila amazing. Drink on.

I must admit to losing interest in the Final. Vegas was impressive, but them winning just wouldn't "fell right" for me. I've never had any particular feelings - toward or against - the Capitals. So this whole series is a bit meh for me. I've flicked on a couple of the games for a few minutes to check the score, but that's about it.

.

Not a big hockey fan, since we don't have a pro team. I enjoy the competition and opportunities for athletes who wouldn't have had the chance otherwise.

Yeah, I'm with you there. I do feel like I'm getting nickel-and-dimed much more. Or that the rank-and-file families are getting squeezed out to make room for special events and guests willing to pay extra for other experiences. The parking fee at the hotels really bugged me.

Good point, it could always be worse! I guess we need Southwest to start flying to London.

I'm kind of ambivalent, too. The Capitals are a divisional rival of the Flyers, so that makes me naturally against them. And while Vegas is a nice story, it also kind of highlights the incompetence of my own team the farther they go.

I've considered selling my DVC at times due to it as well. Still, that's one of the reasons I keep going, as I can still vacation here for a week for $500. I only go to the parks every other day now though and enjoy the resort.

Jeff, cheers for all the info, and guys for the extras.
I think we will be C) people, I think the rides will always be there, so just gonna enjoy the characters shows and parades, with a bit of trick or treating. The plan is to get the kids up late that day and have a pool hang at the Poly, and then head over to the park.
.

I love the MNSSHP. Be in the center for fireworks. Hallowishes are the best. There are two parades, so skip the first and stay for 2nd since less crowded. Parade is in reverse, so it starts at Frontierland.

That's January, yes?

Yes, to correspond with RunDisney event.

Ummm...can someone send me DDC events? I don't do facebook, so I can't find them that way.

I wish I was flying down this summer. But the cost of 6 tickets adds up quickly.

Sorry to hear that. I haven't been in the parks in a few years so I'm interested to see if I feel the same way.

Careful, he might taunt you a second time.

Glad to hear it! Hope you had a nice time together.

Not too shabby there.

But you don't even like coffee.

I can understand that. Occasionally, DW and I will have the "retire to work at Disney" conversation and we always wonder if working there would destroy the magic. I'm sure it's like any other job--there's a reason they have to pay you to do it.
Wheni retire, I'm not working at WDW, I'm sitting in WDW. Lol
I have my benches already picked out and I have given them each a test drive over the last few years. Lol

NORM! I'm guessing this is the trip report? Looks like your having fun. I'm well into phase 4 of wdw trips. I went as a kid, honeymoon, with kid and now just the two of us again ( a little older and slower ) but just the two of us.
Can't say either was better than the other, all just different experiences. I must say, we are enjoying ourselves in phase 4! Lol After all these years, we both still look forward to each trip.
Money grabs, expensive? Yes, can't argue with any of it. Being a going on 20 year member of DVC, TIW and a AP holder, I still can't find a better place with as much to do that interest us for the money.
Cast members are a special breed of people. I admire each and every one of them. For a long time, my dream was to work there, who knows, maybe some day I will, can never say never but when I asked a cm if it killed the magic? I was told, it was fun, experience was great but she had one question for me, do you like to vacation where you work?
Lol. I gave that question a lot of thought.......... lol

Looks like I'm going to have to sacrifice and do a solo trip. Booked 7th-14th at studio

There are other dads who might be going and would room with you. I think some have talked about a party house off property. I'm not ready to leave DW behind on a trip, and I still have girls in HS.

 Dave. I'm posting here, FB, and my trip report thread here @ https://www.disboards.com/threads/disneytopia-live-trip-reports.3002994/page-39.

Although, it's not very live since I'm still mad at my photos being kidnapped, and I haven't replaced them yet. I think it is maybe 7 years of trip reports?

I might add 5 stages - young children and teenagers. Young children have the magic of Christmas morning - it's all real. Teenagers do have the attitude at times, but they can be helpful getting seats, napkins, remembering past trips, and people watching. I haven't had that adult solo trip yet. And, save me a seat on that bench with you in retirement.

Appreciate the sentiment, but I don't know if they are a special breed or just that they are more noticeable.I wouldn't go that far, they're just doing their job, albeit a lot is expected of them, but still, just doing their job.

Like all jobs, there are both. Sometimes, making a trip extra magical is nice for the guest - not the one demanding/ expecting it - but the one on the lookout for it. I've had a few CM servers mail it in when they heard TiW card and knew automatic 20% tip. And, there have been a few unfriendly ones, and one who just outright lied. Still, working in the hot Florida sun with crying, puking kids and lots of people who think they are the only ones in Disney takes something special.

I have to run Vacation Bible School a week in the summer, coordinating lots of volunteers for 3 hours a day, for whatever (40 to 100) # of kids. And, I bring in 20 kids from youth group and other adults to help. I may get 30 minutes max with them each day. I drink heavily every day. It's awful.

Norm , How many more days are you down there:confused3

Leave Friday to go to Vero Beach for the weekend.

last week at WDW the app was down a lot of the time, This was my greatest moment with 14 people with different times and FP's, I was able to look at my little notebook and direct everyone where they had to go:goodvibes. And my wife actually said I will never make fun of your notebook again :cool1:. :scratchinmaybe I'm on to something:thumbsup2
