DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Winter is coming...had to scrape the windshield this morning for the second time in a week. It's warmed up to 10C/50F now at lunch and delightfully sunny. But the snow is not far off now.

So I'm guessing you weren't on George Street.
Nope. I never did that much, but the days of stumbling around George Street at 3am are definitely behind me by about 20 years.

Evening chaps, from a spooky London. Been out trick or treating with the kids, stayed in until about 645 and then left a bowl on the step. Kids did pretty well this year, and I was reading the posts above so have decided to deduct 18% from each bucket. Seems fair to me.
Candy tax was in full force at my place. 100% on any peanut butter containing treats since DD doesn't like it. But with all the allergy concerns fewer people give out those.
Is there much trick or treating in the UK these days? When I was living in Aberdeen there wasn't a sign of it. Of course it was 1997 so things may have changed a bit since.

Had less trick or treaters as it was cold, but we still enjoyed a shortened party with the friends we met up with in Florida.
The weather cooperated here and the rain dried up, made for a very pleasant evening actually. We had quite a bit of candy left over since 3 houses on one side and two on the other were all shut down and dark for various reasons (people away/working I guess), the end result being that kids skipped our half of the street.

Well another first around here for us DD's birthday today and we will not be with her to celebrate.
Must be a strange feeling, one that I will have to deal with in the coming years. Happy belated to her anyway.

You're right. I know why it's felt so long for me...I was told last week I'm being let go (RIF). Unlike most of the other folks, I'm staying an additional 2 weeks for knowledge transfer. This just a month shy of my 3 year anniversary so I'll only get 2 weeks severance instead of 3. Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas! Bend over please!
Really sorry to hear about this. I haven't been on a trip in 3 years because I've been worried about a RIF (I'm in oil & gas and this industry has been a slaughterhouse the past couple years). Moving back home to take an office job this past June was nice, but a significant pay cut. Still waiting until the dust settles financially before pulling the trigger on a trip.
I hope you can find a way through the storm.

Okay, I'll throw something else out there.

What do y'all think of those Astros?
I don't really follow baseball closely, but I was happy with the Astros win. Them and the Blue Jays (plus their respective opponents the Rays and Red Sox) are the only two teams I've seen play in person, so I suppose I have a certain affinity for them.

Right. That's it. I'm calling it. Work week over. Everyone out. Last one in Trader Sam's for a cheeky round of Spiky Pineapples (with extra spike) has to take Ariel home. But let me tell ya, she got crabs. And yet, it's still better down where it's wetter. Take it from me.
So if the newt plays the flute and the carp plays the harp, what does Ariel play? Hopefully she's had lessons from the blowfish...

I'd rather take it from her.

Very sorry to hear this. Hope you find a better path soon.
Sorry mate, that's rubbish. All the best and hope it works out.
Well, that's not quite the entertaining conversation starter I was hopping for this morning...
Very sorry to hear that you're having to deal with this now.
I do see where you've made good decisions over time and have several viable options for moving forward.
May you find the best path for yourself and your family and may these new directions fulfill you.

Thanks CJ
Thanks Dan
Sorry Rob. Didn't mean piss in your oatmeal. ;)

Yep, we had about 60. Went to about 40 houses as well. It just keeps getting bigger, more so than Guy Fawkes Night, which used to be huge.
Well, I forgot to comment on our night. The past 4-5 years, we've had a consistent opposites attract scenario going on. If we decorated and had the light on, hardly anyone showed up and we had tons of candy leftover. If we didn't decorate and had the light off, they showed up in droves. This year we FINALLY broke the streak....we had done trunk or treat at church, so we decided not to do halloween evening. Turned off all the lights and just watched TV. Had no knocks on the door. Next year, we'll try again to see if we can get visitors.

Sorry Rob. Didn't mean piss in your oatmeal. ;)
Not at all...
I was far more concerned about your fortunes.
And was attempting (while failing spectacularly, it appears)
to open the response with something that would lighten the atmosphear

Bad thing about message boards...
I can't hear the inflection of voice behind the written word.

I didn't take it that way at all....I was saying that because it wasn't an entertaining conversation starter. My bad! I've always thought the piss in your oatmeal (or cereal) to be quite the comical phrase vs. something like got up on the wrong side of the bed so I was attempting to joke back.
Please note, I had a grin emoji, so I was trying to indicate I was joking in my response to your response.

We're all good (at least from my perspective, we are)

Oh, and thanks for being concerned with my fortunes. Will happily accept $1000 contributions from any and all disdads that want to contribute to the I want to move to Disney fund. :lmao:

I am not actually concerned about my fortunes. We may have to live a simpler life (read not go out to eat as often or go to movies [that gets really expensive] as much), we will be fine. Besides, I don't anticipate not being able to find something, although might have to wait until after the holidays when companies start spending their new budgets (hiring typically doesn't happen the last quarter of the year)

Have a great weekend guys!
It get's easier. The first one is tough. Send my best to DD and prayers for you and DW.
Morning from a frosty but gloriously sunny London.
Happy birthday to the DD Mikey, hopefully you and the good lady wife will catch up with her soon.
Happy belated birthday to your DD.
Happy Birthday to your dd.
Must be a strange feeling, one that I will have to deal with in the coming years. Happy belated to her anyway.
Thanks gents
Happy Thursday. The weekend is almost here. I think we are going to see the Thor Ragnorok movie this weekend. You all keep warm or cold, whichever your pleasure.
DS is home this weekend so we are going to see Thor tonight as well
'Morning all...
And a proper blessing for all the soles that have ever walked among us.
Nice thought to start the day out right there
A blissful HBD to the young'en.
And an understanding pat on the back for y'all.
So many milestones you've seen, still more yet to come.
Our boy is usually still around the house when his B/D rolls around on the calendar,
but he doesn't see it as much of a big deal, so dinner out is usually about as far as it goes for us.
Thanks on a couple counts there. How is your young man doin these days other than looking forward to his next birthday dinner with the parents :-)
Except...
The kid has done moved out, our critter's bowl is never empty, If I water the yard, I'll have to break the mower back out of hibernation, the gate lock has been busted for 15 years, and we don't have milkmen around here anymore.

Oh, and cheese is right tasty on a great many things.
Well played :rotfl2:

Really sorry to hear this. Positive thoughts and pixie dust your way that things do work out for you

The seaweed could be greener, and it's somebody else's lake, so you may want to dream about going up there instead, before you make a big mistake

In a golf shirt today with temp getting to 20/70 here - I'm ready for cooler fall temps for sure.

Just done with a really crummy week like a lot of us had. Quick run to the liquor store for some bourbon for the weekend. Kind of ticked I have stuff to do tomorrow so will miss parts of the afternoon games. May treat myself and go out to a sports bar for lunch.

Not all is well in football land down here. The Dolphins can't fight their way out of a paper bag and the Gators just exploded this week. A lot of behind the scenes stuff has come out after Mac was fired. Fans were unhappy of course over the way the season was going, he comes out with his "death threats," comment and the University Admin had enough. Seems he was a bit arrogant and made demands on facilities and coaches salaries that were met. Yet he still grumbled about the support he was getting from fans and the Athletic Association. You can be "Saban like" when you are 7-0, not when you are 3-4.

Right. That's it. I'm calling it. Work week over. Everyone out.

Normally I have a 5:00 rule but I think I am going to follow your everybody out decree.

Thanks gents

One of the many posts I must have missed when I was offline. Belated birthday to DD.

Enjoy the weekend all!

Morning all.
Just a few more days to go until a couple of glorious days off.
And today was the first time in two weeks that I didn't wake up in pain, so bonus there too.

Oh man, that really sucks. Sorry to hear that.

Pain free is good.

Unemployment is a drop in the bucket, but yeah, it will help a little. Rather than re-type everything...see quote below from my PTR...

As I mentioned in the PTR thread (see below), I won't be in the poor house and I've got a few other options in the works. So, although I might not have a golden parachute like CEOs give themselves, I should at least have an aluminum or tin parachute. ;)

Rather than re-type everything, take a look here...
https://www.disboards.com/goto/post?id=58419875#post-58419875

I probably should add this to the PTR post. I've spent the last 6 months cutting bills, minimizing expenses and putting more into savings. I've run the numbers and if I were to sell the house, sell other things of value, we should have more than enough money to either retire or at least semi-retire. It wouldn't leave as much expendable income for Disney, but might be a good option. I've also been considering ministry options (back to the helping people comment)

Edit: Minimizing expenses...that's why we cancelled the Sep trip. Still planning on going in February now although might not be as extravagant as originally planned.

It's good that you made some plans, but still stinks that you have to go thru it.

Right. That's it. I'm calling it. Work week over. Everyone out. Last one in Trader Sam's for a cheeky round of Spiky Pineapples (with extra spike) has to take Ariel home. But let me tell ya, she got crabs. And yet, it's still better down where it's wetter. Take it from me.

Looks like I'm going home with Ariel. At least i get to play with C shells.

Okay, I'll throw something else out there.

What do y'all think of those Astros? and Happy Friday. 007 has already called it, so go home. Of course, given Ariel is the prize for being last, y'all go ahead before me. ;)

Too late to stay up for me. Coincidentally good narrative with the hurricane damage.

I'm holding out for Jasmine.

She's wearing too many clothes now.

DD is progressing in physical therapy. The pension Bill is stalling as the Speaker of the House has a settled a sexual harassment claim and may have to resign. Yeah, politics.

I'm drinking golden margaritas tonight.

So if the newt plays the flute and the carp plays the harp, what does Ariel play? Hopefully she's had lessons from the blowfish...

She has. :woohoo:

I would turn out my lights except for my girls. Too much work opening and closing the door to give mooching kids free candy.

Disney fund? I need one of those.

!

What bourbon did you get?

Morning, gents.
Back's slowly improving.

Unfortunately, by the time it's good enough to put up the Christmas lights (which I wanted to do 2 weeks ago... before the snow fell... dammit!)
it'll be cold, miserable and horrid.
Which will also define my mood.

What about if it's I'm so mad at ewe?

Baa, humbug.

After a bourbon and ginger, you don't really care much either way.

Good point!

Pain free is good.

::yes::

She's wearing too many clothes now.

Agreed! Disney really dropped the ball on this one.

DD is progressing in physical therapy.

Good to hear!
