DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Which two records did you hold on to?

(and why hasn't anyone else asked that already?)
Amazingly, Michael Jackson. I used to run HMV on Oxford St, which for a little while was one of the biggest record shops in the world, and I bought 2 on release day. Its the 3LP History Gt Hits that came with a booklet. They are still in the HMV shrink wrap, I never opened them as I had the CD. Apparently the fact they are in the original wrap makes them all the more valuable. I had to keep the shop open for him once, and escort him round the shop. Weird.

The Christmas season does not start until after I hear Boris Karloff and Thurl Ravenscroft tell me that story.
(and I refuse to watch it until after the US Thanksgiving Holidays.)

::yes:: Except since our Thanksgiving is at a much more reasonable time of year, I tend to use December 1st as my yardstick.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Today is the 40th anniversary of the release of the original Rocky filem.

I heard that this morning on the radio while driving the rugrat to school.

I once saw a comedy routine... years ago, don't remember who the comedian was, but it went like this.
(He did the voices of Stallone and Burgess Meredith)

Rocky, you're a bum!
I ain't no bum!
You're a bum!
I ain't no bum!
You're a bum I says!
I ain't no bum!
Well, okay. Then you're a lousy elocutionist!

....

I ain't no bum!

I thought so! It was the first thing that popped into my mind, but I couldn't remember if that line was from there or not.

Really! Was he as weird in real life as he appeared to be?

All the best Mal to you and the DW. Hopefully you'll be back bantering in no time.

Prayers that whatever it is is defined and treatment takes care of it. Hang in there and again prayers.

Oh, man. Hope everything works out okay.

Hopefully they find out quickly what is causing the pain and soon relive it. Keep us posted.

Prayers for DW.

Sending positive thoughts your way. Hoping for answers and that DW feels better.

Thanks for the prayers/positive thoughts guys! DW is doing better. Followed up with family doc on Friday who said, most likely, is just some sort of GI issue and gave her a Rx. It appears to be working as pain has gone.

I think I am having a heart attack watching Florida beat LSU. "Elizabeth I'm coming to join you." (Old farts will know that line) Fourth and goal and stopped at the 1/2 yard line.

Bad news is we get to face Alabama in the Championship.

As a Vol fan, I was not pulling for you guys, but congrats on the win. The Vols really don't deserve to go to the championship anyway after their lackluster season. Good luck against 'Bama. I'll be pulling for you as there is only one person I dislike more than Saban. and that is Lame Kiffin.

Yesterday started to get the christmas decorations down, and this turned into a full blown re-organisation of the attic. Finally got rid of all my old vinyl, and a ton of CDs. Gave about 500 DVDs to the local cancer charity shop. Kept back 2 records, that I thought might be worth something, and checked ebay. They go for £1000 each.
So that was nice.

Very nice find and very generous giving.

Here's the backside pic on how the frames are assembled. Cable ties help keep the ears attached and the garland attached to the frames.

Looks awesomew.

Braved Publix to buy the vittles for turkey day. Went in the morning so it was't too bad. Menu is Turkey, portobello risotto stuffing, parmagiano topped mashed potatoes, sautéd mushrooms (Why? I don't know it was her choice), rolls, gravy and pecan pie for desert. I was jonesing for pecan pie, had a piece tonight and I may have made a wrong choice. Too sweet. She still has to pick out her main dish and figure out what to do with the sweet potatoes. Thanksgiving is my favorite meal of the year and I want to start cooking (and eating) it now.

Easy week coming up, errands, stuff to do around the house and getting ready for the feast.

Got space at the table for all your DisDad brethren?

Morning all...
budgeting time at work and they're keeping me busy looking after the tools and data.
I'm reading along but don't always have time to answer back.
Hope all are well and stay that way.
.)

Keep managing those stats, stats.

Sorry about your Turkey day struggles. Hang in there cause there will be a day when you get to host the family as the grandparents. My parents were divorced as well and it made it tough when the kids were young to be in 3 places at once. BIL and I decided that one of us would host a Holiday and invite both sides of parents. When we moved to Tennessee we would go back north the first few years for Thanksgiving but when mom passed I just made the call that we were staying home with our family and whoever wanted to come down we would put them up at our place.
]

Seems like we went down that road already as well. We hosted some years when our dds were younger, so they wouldn't have to leave their home and toys. But, DW somehow still managed to drag us somewhere. So, I just stopped hosting because we still had to go visit them the next day or day before anyway. BIL & SIL wouldn't even throw away their paper plates after eating.

I'm ok with the travel, but just don't understand why we have to visit with people we never see or have anything to do with. All her family lives nearby, but we only see them on holidays, and it usually is a miserable expense. It's like, oh, I hate you so much I refuse to acknowledge you 360 days a year, but those 5 days are must visit. What a joke.

Really! Was he as weird in real life as he appeared to be?
Yep.
He turned up with 2 guys at our back doors (which was the usual VIP entrance, as we had a stage in the store). He didn't really say much, he just walked round with his mask on, pointed at stuff he wanted to take and the guys who were with him paid for it. He just said thanks for keeping the shop open (it was just me and the security guards) and left. He took about 2k worth of stock though..

Yeah, I like Michael Jackson's music. He did seem creepy on TV, and then there is that whole child sleepover/ never land/ investigation which put him in even creepier light. Still, cool story and valuable records.

We are going through the same process with our lot, but for Xmas. I see them one day a year for the last 15. Always at my house. Never talk to them from one year to the next. Waste of time. I always take a "chef's break" for an hour, sit in my garden, and smoke a cheeky cuban. And quietly seethe that I've been up since 6am cooking for people I don't particularly give a monkey's about. But it makes my mum happy, so I take it on the chin.

What he said!

You laugh. But this terrible affliction is real! In Canada we do not take this lightly.

Okay, I'm kidding.

or am I?

'Morning all...
Halfway through the work week...
(still don't want to be here, but it beats being unemployed)

Interesting...
Cool that you had the opportunity to put away a few unusual albums like that.
And smart that you left them sealed.

I ain't no bum!

Good that she's improving.
May that continue and be resolved soon.

Keep managing those stats, stats.
It earns me my Disney money.
(for the time being at least)

He was a serious mess...
The direct result of having never been told: "no".

Morning everyone. Today just became my Friday, kind of. Looked at my to-do list for the week and discovered that there is not anything that physically requires me to be in the office tomorrow. So, I'm just going to work from home. Sure beats the 45 minute commute each way.

Hope everyone has a great Tuesday!

Top O the Mornin Dads! Last day in the office til next week, exactly 5 weeks til Christmas WDW trip and kids get home for Thanksgiving tonight so all in all can't complain. FIL sickness is dragging on as now he has what sounds like stomach flu. I am not a fan of their primary care physician as I used to use that group but no confidence in them for multiple reasons I won't get into. Have a good one fellas.

Great to hear!

Afternoon Gents,

Just a quickly stopping in, busiest time of the year for me. Lots of basketball for DS plus this coming weekend we run out annual conference, hold our AGM and our annual awards dinner. Have I missed anything important in the last week or so?

(still don't want to be here, but it beats being unemployed)

There's the rub...

 Very good!

Interesting theory. I remember seeing some of his interview with Liz Taylor. Very creepy.

Have I missed anything important in the last week or so?

I think Rob said he was pregnant.
Or was that he was going to eat so much he was going to have a food baby.

Whatever.

Happy Tuesday, which is my Friday. Took a sick day for my annual prison visit, er um, physical exam. Not sure why we pay for that treatment. Blood tests are pending, and I may still be diagnosed as being alive. I'll drive dds up to visit my parents tomorrow for a quick visit and meal, and then spend agony Thursday with both sets of inlaws all freaking day long.

It would be great if it was just once a year. I get stuck with it for all the holidays. Not sure you were around when I posted all the crap about mine. DW's parents are divorced, and she has a younger brother. Her parents really don't care for her, unless there is an emergency, and try to buy the love of their son. MIL gave him $20,000 to get his two vehicles out of repo. FIL gave him a $170,000 house. And that doesn't include the rent, clothes, utilities money they have both given him over the years. However, when either of them sick, they call my DW who drops everything to drive them to the hospital. She even drove FIL 2 hours away to the Hospital because he has a specialist there, and he was admitted. The son never even came to visit. I go over and get their internet working when it goes down.

It just makes me so sick. It does suck about the money. But, I invest mine and hope it will be enough. It just sucks to see how all of them treat both her and my dds. Even some of BIL's kids even act that way towards my oldest dd. I would have had nothing to do with them all years ago.

You laugh. But this terrible affliction is real! In Canada we do not take this lightly.
I?

Yet another quote from Christmas Vacation. The best movie.

45 minute commute does stink. You drive that or ride the train?

Sorry to hear that. I like my doctor, and they are good with us. Hope he gets better.

Just all our usual wisdom nuggets. :lmao:

Missed anything...yes. Important...no.

I'll drive dds up to visit my parents tomorrow for a quick visit and meal, and then spend agony Thursday with both sets of inlaws all freaking day long.

I always tell my doctor he should at least buy me dinner afterwards. Although the doctor visit may be better than a visit with the in-laws.

I do it nearly everyday. I sometimes work from home on Fridays, especially in the summer when traffic is worse. There's no train here. Just the glorious Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel that goes over/under the James River at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. A minor accident/breakdown can snarl traffic for hours. I go in early and come home early to beat most of the traffic. I listen to a lot of podcast each day.

Missed some disturbing discussion about my backside and Christmas lights :confused3
