DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
So here's a good one for you guys. The airlines and their computer systems strike again...or tried to at least! I spent a good portion of last night on the phone with a rep from American Airlines.

I received an email from them around 7:00pm last night, politely telling me that our 8:00am flight due to arrive in Orlando at 1:00pm was no longer being offered, so they graciously re-booked everyone on an 11:30 flight that stopped for two hours in Charlotte and landed in Orlando at 7:00pm.

I can't even imagine what that day would be like if we put the kids on an airplane just before nap time and, after two hours in the craziness that is Charlotte, didn't get them into the resort until bed time. Suffice to say that would NOT be a good start to the vacation. Not to mention I'm already going to be there on business just waiting for the wife & kids to arrive. Could you imagine my wife's face when she steps off the plane with two hungry, sleep-deprived hellions, knowing I've spent the day waiting for them beside Storm Along Bay? Dear Lord, in the words of William Shakespeare "Though she may be little, she is fierce".

In the end, the representative from American was great. She kept apologizing for putting me on hold, but I continually assured her that if she could fix this, I'd happily stay on the phone with her all night. Turns out they didn't actually eliminate our flight, they just assigned it a new flight number, and the American computer system, in all its brilliance, decided to re-book us on a later flight instead of just changing us over to the one that took its place under a new number.

What a mess. I'm glad they worked it out for you in the end.

As a side note, you might be the first man who has ever quoted Shakespeare in this thread. Monty Python comes up far more regularly.

Because obviously anyone coming to Disney World doesn't have kids.

Maybe Disney needs to just run the airport too.

Well.... after I take the kid to her orthodontist appointment... and go shopping.... and cook dinner.... but otherwise... aaaahhhh....

Yep, sounds like a Tuesday.

Point of interest. As far as I know, no one on this side of the pond uses "fortnight". We'll say "two weeks". Just another word that sank on the way across the pond.

On the plus side, we did contribute "buckaroo" and "discombobulated" to the language.

Good afternoon, gentlemen! I was feeling nostalgic and decided to return to where my DISDads life was born! That and it's hard to get a good dose of Norm on Facebook, so I was hoping things were still kicking over here n the DIS!

We are less than 90 days out from our trip and that time is gonna fly. With the start of school, travel soccer, NFL....I'll blink and be raking leaves!

Would it be better if I put myself in the role of the Black Knight with my wife lopping off limbs by Stormalong Bay? Because trust me, if I put her on that flight with the kids, I would be in much more than "a little peril"

Just time for a quick scan before leaving to pick the kids up from the bus stop and I see Norm is celebrating Hump Day early, the Canadians are still randomly throwing in extra "U"s and we have a volunteer to play Sir Galahad at Castle Anthrax...

More life of CJ. Are you diving as well? Hope Eeyore doesn't get you today.

I suspect you’ll be plenty hydrated today.

Made it there and back with no issues. Pretty much rained all the way down until I got to the beginning of the Keys, then the sun came out. Didn't hydrate much, lounged by the pool and Tiki bar with friends at the Holiday Inn then an Irish place for lunch. It was nice to get out of Miami for a few hours.

So here's a good one for you guys....

Wow, glad it worked out. You would have paid dearly if it didn't.

Yep. You get through Border Control, pick up your bags from the airline carousel. You then have to go through the customs check,

With Orlando relying on foreign visitors, you would think they would make it easier.

The plan is to check out of my hotel in Disney Springs, Uber to BC to drop my bags with bell services, and Uber back to meet them all at MCO and ride the Magical Express to the resort.

Sounds good. Hope there are no curves thrown at you.

For those of you not in the Facebook group, one of our brothers passed away suddenly today. bdoyledimou (Bern Doyle-Dimou) lived in the Toronto area.

RIP Bern, you will be missed.

I plan on toasting our friend this evening if you would like to join with me.
So, I've been unplugged for a week, but came back to the boards and FB today to find out the shocking news of Bern's passing. I didn't interact with him for long, but it's sad to lose a member of the club.

I've poured myself a drink in his memory while watching Canada vs. Germany in Olympic women's football/soccer, so hopefully he would approve. I have no idea what (or if) he liked to drink, but I hope a Canadian whiskey will do. I do know Bern liked Pepsi, so here's to Bern. Rest in peace...

Well, another full week for me last week, before I head back to work again (boo).

Celebrated DD's 9th birthday on Wednesday with the family. Had my parents, MIL & FIL, SIL and her husband and boys here, so a busy day, but good. She had a sleepover with friends on Friday and then a Menchies party Sunday. I could have done without the sleepover. I told DW that this year the big party with 15 girls should be outside the house. I'm glad we did that. It's so much easier.

I've been watching a good bit of the Olympics in between. As @declansdad said, CBC has pretty good coverage. I like their app. I've been taking my tablet in the backyard and watching that way. Seems "healthier" than sitting on my butt in the basement.

Back from moving the kids in and sweating my backside off (not gonna hurt to shed a couple of pounds) as it was mid 90's and humid. Sitting on the front porch with DW having a couple of beverages and I lit up a cigar to celebrate the kids and us. A little tough today for both of us. DS was funny as the first things he unpacked was Star Wars collectible stuff for his room book shelves - created his home away from home right away. DD is an old pro and has had the same roommate for all 4 years so we focused a bit more on getting the boy settled but made sure to help the girl out as well
Hard to believe from this.........

To this ................

In addition to the dds going back to school, youth group at church is back in session so that meant DW and i had the house to ourselves for 2 hours. We had a bottle of wine and .....
Passed out / fell asleep?????????????

Great to hear from you! Stop by here more often especially with football starting up. Enjoy the trip.

Or does that translate into fourtnight in Canadian? :lmao:

It's really difficult translating both Canadian and English into American. :sad2:

Maybe Disney needs to just run the airport too.

Walt tried. That's why you see what appears to be an old runway along the road to MK just before Wilderness Lodge.

Don't be talking about raking any stupid leaves yet!

Home from tennis tonight. First loss of the season, and didn't play well. I care less about the worse and more about my performance.

As a side note, you might be the first man who has ever quoted Shakespeare in this thread. Monty Python comes up far more regularly.
.

Monty Python, yeah! Shakespeare? I'm too stupid to even notice a quote. But, I can include quotes from famous wrestlers. "Austin 3:16 says I just whopped your a$$". :lmao:

Someone really wants a dose of me? Thanks Brett. I do leave a dose in the toilet every day, and can mail you some if you miss me that much. :scared1::eek::scared1:

I imagined my DW more with frying pan or big stick coming at me, but yeah, about the same results. :lmao:

No...no...no. I get to live in Castle Anthrax. I called it back in a previous thread. Best movie ever.

It was nice to get out of Miami for a few hours.
.

Really? Nice to get out of Miami for 3 hours? Live in KY for 30 minutes (other than at Rupp Arena during a basketball game) and you'll never say that phrase. NEVER!! :furious:

I'm down to sleepovers on their birthdays, and then, only one friend. I hate the whole sleepover thing.

Good looking family there.

Now there's Re and LLs? What's the world coming to?

It's Canadauanellere madness.

Welcome back, always good to hear from our members.
You might want to go ahead and get those rakes ready...
Time moves far more quickly than any of us want to admit.

we have a volunteer to play Sir Galahad at Castle Anthrax...
I suspect you'd find many volunteers for that duty among our constituency

So...status quo
You seem to have a complete grasp on how this group works...
It's like you belong here.

Menchies party
Had to look that one up...
Ice cream - that we got and I've certainly known a few mensches in my time...
but I've not encountered that particular turn of phrase up until now.

DS was funny as the first things he unpacked was Star Wars collectible stuff for his room book shelves
Might as well make ones priorities apparent early on...
No sense in leaving folks guessing what camp you choose to fly you flag in.
Hope he has a great time up there.

Walt tried. That's why you see what appears to be an old runway along the road to MK just before Wilderness Lodge.
Well I'll be...
So there is.
Never paid that any mind up until now.

A page out of a Canadian spelling book holds no credit in the US...
We've a long history of not paying attention to anyone else's sense of reason.

Home from tennis tonight. First loss of the season, and didn't play well. I care less about the worse and more about my performance.
Even in the loss...
You’re far more active than I am, so I say good job sir.

But I can live with that.

It's pronounced fourt-neeg-it
I actually use the word from time to time...
But I do appreciate the clarification on its proper pronunciation.

Hey Brett. Have a great break storming the castle.

Celebrated DD's 9th birthday on Wednesday with the family.

Belated birthday wishes. Sounds like a great time was had by all (or almost all).

Hard to believe from this.........

Feel your pain. We are still digging out of the four years of junk my kid accumulated while in school. The living room is doubling as a storage room right now. Glad they are settled in. She is in her Senior year right?

Really? Nice to get out of Miami for 3 hours? Live in KY for 30 minutes (other than at Rupp Arena during a basketball game) and you'll never say that phrase. NEVER!! :furious:

It may be hard to believe but I hate Miami. It isn't the things you can do or the weather (obviously) but the people are obnoxious. The Keys are my little sanctuary where you can kick off you sandals and relax. The people are chill and polite and it is just a different vibe. Once you hit the Miami-Dade border, drivers are cutting off people flipping them the bird...

Morning all...
And may no sorrows find you today.

The same back to you.

Another morning. First day of the work week after 3 off. Oddly enough, I'm not feeling like going in.
Oh, well...

Happy Wednesday. Even more rain here, which means if the yard ever dries, I'll have to bail it. So tired of rain. Tennis again tonight and I get to avoid another teen hormone moment. She was all puffy at DW this morning, so she lost her phone. I get to drive her to swim and I may just go throw her in the pool. :lmao:

:lmao:

Or it could be that we’re the ones that are mad...
But I can live with that.
.

Yes, I'm happy with my version of the madness.

.

Nope, still not enough justification. We don't have those drivers. The ones here are more likely to come to a complete stop in the street to check their phone or whatever else the need. Then, everyone flips them the bird. In my small town, employment opportunities, spots on sports team, sale prices, etc are determined by who you're related to. So, you have a bunch of anger vs. I have a bunch of discrimination. But, I have snow, wind, humidity (Ohio Valley), high poverty rates, high obesity rates. The Florida weather is enough to win me over, without even considering proximity to WDW, ocean, pro sports, beaches. I didn't even put topless beaches or women in bikinis on that list.

Life of CJ wins this round yet again.

Send a little of the rain my way. It's not terribly hot up here (low to mid 20sC/70sF? Maybe 80, not sure) but it's been dry. The lawn is turning yellow. I pulled a few weeds today and the soil was just dust. Strange for us up here.

As for the hormones, I know about that all too well. I've never been able to get DW to agree to taking the phone. I think it's a great punishment. Of course getting thrown in the pool would top it off best.

Morning Guys,

Going to be a rough day here today. About to go into to a quick meeting before heading to the golf course to pay in a charity tournament. The tournament is an annual tournament put on by a local petroleum company for our KidSport charity. Hope to stay hydrated on the course.

Have a good one.

Any event that ends up in Castle Anthrax is a good thing.

Just time for a quick scan before leaving to pick the kids up from the bus stop and I see Norm is celebrating Hump Day early, the Canadians are still randomly throwing in extra "U"s and we have a volunteer to play Sir Galahad at Castle Anthrax...

See? They're already jealous.

Hard to believe from this.........

To this ................

I know, right? No idea how that happens so quickly.

Walt tried. That's why you see what appears to be an old runway along the road to MK just before Wilderness Lodge.

 Just when I think there's nothing more to learn about WDW...

Now there's Re and LLs? What's the world coming to?

It's Canadauanellere madness.

Too many rules and letters. I talk English good enough anyway.

It's pronounced fourt-neeg-it

So it's exactly like New Jersey, just warmer.

Morning folks.
After a pretty good thunderstorm last night, it's supposed to clear up today.
Of course I won't know since I'm spending the next 16 hours indoors at work.

Going to be a rough day here today. About to go into to a quick meeting before heading to the golf course to pay in a charity tournament. The tournament is an annual tournament put on by a local petroleum company for our KidSport charity. Hope to stay hydrated on the course.

Oh no!!! You poor, poor guy!
Hang in there!!!!!!
