DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
I think you guys should all take today off, celebrate with us and make it a 4 day weekend.

I remember those days. And, if 12 year old had her way, she would still sleep in our bed. :lmao: That was a habit we thankfully broke quickly.

My 12 year old just told me I don't have to read to her any more before she goes to bed. Kind of sad, and kind of cool, as I get more time at night. Of course now my 9 year old is demanding Dad reading time, that use to be my wife's job. So I am still wanted by at least some of my kids.

My 12 year old does not usually climb into bed with us, but if she get's scared at night, she will climb into bed with us.

Happy Canada Day to our brethren in the North. May you celebrate by ingesting and imbibing as much as your body can reasonably tolerate.

Dropped the kid off at the airport a bit ago. She is off to Holland with her Aunt as her graduation gift. Not really jealous for this trip because she will be spending two plus weeks with her Aunt. Security at the airport was intense. They had a checkpoint on the road getting into the terminal area (never had that before), police cars every 15 feet or so in the drop off area and special security carrying M-16s. What a world.

Good morning all. Wednesday brings teenage drama...

I give that a win for you. Want a chauffeur, you need to pay the price.

Hi guys, first time Dis Dads poster here

Welcome. We were at the original four years ago. Loved it. When my daughter saw the castle the first time, she said, "What a cute little castle." She wasn't being snarky, she actually like the difference. May the time before your next visit go quickly.

I have only tried chicken fried steak once, and that was at T-Rex cafe. I was not a fan, but perhaps that was not the best place to give it a try.

Not a good representation of chicken fried steak so don't give up on it. With all the discussion, decided to make it tonight.

Glad she made it back safely. Hope your sleep schedule gets back on course.

Thanks, back to the normal 4-5 hours a night now. At least I'm sleeping when the sun is down.

Looking forward to seeing some of those pictures.

Just starting looking at them but here are a couple

Getting ready to make the final payment for our August trip.

Happy Day right there.

Booked some things but not happy with times so gonna have watch as things flush out.

Tough time of year. Hope you get better as time goes on.

Glad she made it home safe. Couple of bourbons before bed maybe?

That could happen. Thanks.

Afternoon gents.
After a crappy night (literally. I shan't say more.) I got to sleep in 'til.... 10:15am! Woot!
Relaxed a bit. Ran a few errands. Now at work.
Still. Pretty happy that I got to sleep in.
First time since...... the 80s?

I hear you but I think you have it worse than I do.

If you'll indulge me, may I also take a moment of reflection since July 1st is both Canada Day and also Memorial Day here in my province of Newfoundland...

A horrific battle, over 1 million killed or wounded. A lost generation. I can understand the mixed feeling of celebrating Canada Day and the anniversary.

Then, youngest dd has a sleepover tonite for her birthday. But, at least it is a three day weekend.

Happy birthday to her. I suggest a stop at the bourbon bar before going home.

But then again, DS will be home from school this afternoon, which will make his Momma one very happy camper
Happy wife... yeah, that's a win.

Enjoy the time with DS. Tell him to pick up his clothes and get a haircut.

Happy Canada Day!

It truly is a holiday, got to sleep in to 10 am. No basketball this weekend, no need to go anywhere, just time to sit back and relax.

A win for you.

Talked to him last night and you could hear his disappointment and then out right p offed talking about some of ones that made semi-finals. I told him that to get this far is still an accomplishment and you don't always win and that I was still super proud of him and the work he put into it this year.

Sorry that his team didn't move on but it sounds like an accomplishment despite fickle judges.

My 12 year old just told me I don't have to read to her any more before she goes to bed.

Don't blink, tomorrow you will be sending her off to college. Enjoy it now.

Happy Canada Day to our brethren in the commonwealth! We had quite a few services over this side of the pond today for the anniversary of the Somme, all of Euston station in silence which was nice.

Yeah, they're definitely different. MK's castle is very impressive, but DL's is like a familiar friend.

Hi guys, first time Dis Dads poster here (I just posted my into on the intro thread).
Welcome jglor, may your dole whip always be topped up!

Nice one. Happy Canada Day, dd
I think they all get the same manual at some point when men are not around. Too many similarities to be a coincidence...
Does anyone else have to endure the "birthday week?"

'Morning all...
Had to break down and come back home last night. DW had to work today, but...
I at least have today off form work. Win!! so I spent this morning paying the bills. Not a Win!!
I do get Monday off for the 4th, Win!!, but I have to work a bit on Sunday, oh, and Monday morning even though I'm "on holiday", oh, and be in the office at 6am Tuesday...
So much for wins...

Ahhhhh, the life of Norm.

You want to pay my bills? Or, just send me the money to pay my bills? I'll have the week off but no money to spend. :sad2:

Now that sounds like a great weekend. Enjoy it while you can.

Top O the Morning Dads and a Happy Canada Day to Dads from the north! DS architecture projects did not make it to semi-finals, minimum he wanted to accomplish, which both he, his team and teachers thought was a no brainer after seeing other entry's. Talked to him last night and you could hear his disappointment and then out right p offed talking about some of ones that made semi-finals. I told him that to get this far is still an accomplishment and you don't always win and that I was still super proud of him and the work he put into it this year. Also told to get the names of the kids that advanced beyond him so he could send them his Disney Imagineering business card down the road :)

Sorry to hear he didn't make it, but semi finals ain't bad. That future Imagineering idea sounds like a great dose of revenge. :lmao:

I think you guys should all take today off, celebrate with us and make it a 4 day weekend.

That's a great plan. Maybe I'll take a 10 day weekend?

Mine is ready for me to stop tucking her in at night. So, glad that she is maturing, but also not ready for her to move on.

That is a scary world. We don't have that here yet, but the world certainly is changing.

My youngest is just turning 9 next month and she has already started telling me I don't need to read to her at night. Too soon. :sad1:

I know how you feel. I already have one 16 year old who is too independent. I'm dreading the day when I have another...

The world is sadly getting crazier. I travel for work and it always makes me think what could potentially happen these days.
I hope your DD has an enjoyable trip.

Morning gents.
Hope everyone is having a good long weekend.
Saw fireworks from three different locations going off last night on the drive home. Put a smile on my face.

Morning all. Played tennis this AM. 12 year olds sleepover friend is still here. She is our goddaughter, and we are going out to her parents (our friends) house in the country to shoot off fireworks, ride 4 wheelers, and drink beer, although not in that order.

.

My oldest is 14 and getting more independent. She is not as mature for her age (surprising for the oldest child), which I have mixed thoughts about.

We have a big show planned for tonite, but probably not enough for Canada to see.

Coming to you from plane about 3 hours away from Sydney - dang this is a long flight with total door to door trip of about 25 hours. Follow up on CJs comment, San Fransico airport had a pretty significant police presence - more than I have seen in a while. Have a great 4th of July weekend everyone.

Now that sounds like a ton of fun! Enjoy!

We have a bug show planned for tonite,

uh.... I have no idea what a "bug show" is?

Ouch... but on the plus side... you'll be in Sydney.

Happy Sunday morning. Raining here this AM, so went to the gym. I hadn't been in a month and am toast. I thought all the tennis playing would have better prepared me, but it didn't. I was able to keep most of the same weights/times as last time.

A lot of fun last night setting off fireworks, drinking beer, eating burgers, and riding the 4 wheeler. There was a slight rain earlier in the evening, which made the trails slick to slide the 4 wheeler around. And, my friend and I both have all our fingers still attached, so it was a successful night of fireworks. It was too windy to get the lanterns going, or they were just bad construction.

Thanks for posting from down under. That does make for a long flight. Say hi to Crocodile Dundee for me. :lmao:

It is zerfonics.

Morning chaps, from sunny London. Happy 4th July to everyone over that side of the pond, and there's not too many sore heads over there. If you are having second thoughts about this whole independence thing, apparently we have a slot that just opened up....

Happy 4th everyone. Ribs and chicken are on the menu today then fireworks tonight. They are viewable from the house so I don't need to go anywhere. May all of you wake up tomorrow with the same number of fingers you have today. Be safe.

Wouldn't that be the EU has a spot opening up?
