DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
A bit overcast here this morning. It's rained for the past few days, but not yet today.
If the lawn dries up a bit, I foresee the mower coming out of hibernation today.

Happy Saturday. Worked out at the gym, played tennis with the family, and now on the way to Louisville to visit my parents. Have a great weekend.

Drinks - gonna need plenty! I will likely partake of Makers one day, dirty martini one day and a port wine one day mixed in with some suds. I like the port with a cigar.

Only credit I can take is the Shop Disney Parks APP. We got one for DD when she graduated thus DS had to have one too.

That works. Drinks and cigar sounds great.

Happy Saturday everyone. A bit overcast and rainy this morning but I will cope. To my northern brethren, please keep me apprised of the penguin advance. Stocking up on sardines now. And bread and milk.

Add eggs and make the penguins some French toast.

Happy Saturday all.

Hope you all have a great Memorial Day Weekend.

Same to you.

Enjoy cutting the grass or icicles. Just have the penguins cut them as they advance in their army formation. :lmao:

There are far too many people going to Disney... AND I'M NOT ONE OF THEM!!!
That's for sure! I hate that we don't have anything planned before the October trip. :sad2:

Home from tennis with another win. That's 4 straight matches and I sure am tired. I can use a day at the office to rest.
:woohoo: Great job!

The quiet pool at the Poly. Not so quiet but a nice addition especially if you are lucky enough to snag one of these sheltered areas. Almost a personal bungalow. This was a construction zone when I stayed here in January.

This was a construction zone when we were there last year too! Looks really nice. ::yes::

I had the Filet Mignon with polenta and a beef reduction sauce

This was FANTASTIC! Steak perfectly done and tender, and while I was not a fan of polenta, this changed my mind.
This is what I had the only time I ate there. Definitely a great choice!:thumbsup2 Grand Flo Cafe is also a place that I don't hear many people talk about, but we had a fantastic meal there the time we tried it. :-)

Yesterday was day one of regular days off.
Told work not to call me because I was way too busy at home to come in.
Now I'm beat... and they called me for this morning.

Heigh ho, heigh ho... oh..... poop.
That's the place Pat finds herself this weekend. She has worked some crazy hours lately and when she got in last night she stuck to her plan to turn off her work phone. Typically, she gets calls every time she tries to take some quiet time off and relax. >:(

Oh, man. If that isn't the motto every-freaking-where nowadays.
Yes, we are seeing the same thing where I work too! :headache:

Well, for those following, they added an extra baseball game for the JV team on Tuesday. DS won't be playing as he got the call up to varsity that we had been hoping for so will play the last game there and then stay on the roster for the state tournament. He was told to get his bull pen work in because he is expected to pitch when needed and maybe even be the closer for states.:thumbsup2 He has worked really hard this year and deserves it. He was also told that he will be one of the 3 top pitchers next season on varsity if he keeps up the efforts and continues to improve.
Congrats to your son! Sounds like he is really coming along and should go far if he keeps working hard!

FRIDAY! 3 day weekend and then only 2 more days in this lately hell hole and then WDW.
Oh man.....it is getting close! I hope the time passes faster than I know it will feel like it is!

Everyone have a great weekend and thank you to those that gave their lives so the we can enjoy little things like a Dad / Son WDW trip.
Amen to that! :worship:

January, marathon weekend. Where else could the DDCC be other than Disney World. If you want to meet a bunch of great guys in one place, that's the where and when (or at least that's what they tell me, this is my first one). Oh, and CJ will be there too. :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
I'm "running" in the 10k and hope to be able to at least make a meet or two! :yay:

Hoping to break out the smoker and have some brisket this weekend!:thumbsup2
What time did you said that would be ready again Mark??? :rolleyes1

Happy Saturday all.

Hope you all have a great Memorial Day Weekend.
Wishing all the DIS Dad's a great Memorial Day Weekend too! :goofy:

Hope all the dads out there are having a good Memorial weekend. Only working 1/2 day today then a full 2 days off for the holiday. :cool1::cool1::cool1:
HEB here has whole pork loins on sale. Now I know what I am cooking. LOL
Now the only decision is what flavor of Shiner to have with it. Not hot enought for the summer brews, so probally going with a nice Belgian White

Enjoy cutting the grass or icicles. Just have the penguins cut them as they advance in their army formation. :lmao:

Actually.... that'd be all right by me.

That's for sure! I hate that we don't have anything planned before the October trip. :sad2:

Or don't have a trip planned at all.

That's the place Pat finds herself this weekend. She has worked some crazy hours lately and when she got in last night she stuck to her plan to turn off her work phone. Typically, she gets calls every time she tries to take some quiet time off and relax. :(

Yup.

Hope all the dads out there are having a good Memorial weekend.

Not a long weekend up here, but.... so stoked for the Indy 500 tomorrow!
Thought I was going to have to wait until Monday to watch it since I work Sunday evening.
But checked the schedule and the race is supposed to run about 11 am. Which means as long as it doesn't get rain delayed (40% chance of showers) I can watch it before I go to work! Woot!

Made it home from Louisville. We ate at the Cheesecake Factory, and then I went and visited my parents and Aunt who both live in the same apartment complex in separate units. They are all in the 80s. It was one of those comical moments where no one can hear anything anymore, and they would ask and answer such questions with what they clearly thought they were hearing.

In the car ride home, I would occasionally answer, "the zoo is closed" or "I want to try the fish tacos". I know I probably shouldn't laugh, but it was a way to cope with the situation. That day is getting closer where I'll have to coordinate long term care for them as well as funeral planning.

:woohoo: Great job!

! :goofy:

Thanks. I'm hoping to be able to run a 5K or longer race one day and complete a Disney run event. One day. It may be the same day pigs fly or I won the lotto, but some day.

Good luck to you.

We ate at the Cheesecake Factory

oh, yum!

 Totally get that.

Well, it is funny, so go ahead and enjoy it.

And that's why you enjoy it. It's just one of those little things that brings a smile to your face before the inevitable.

Happy Sunday guys,

Let the que'ing commence. Back membrane off the ribs and about to get the dry rub. In addition to the ribs, we have a portobello mushroom for the veg head, pasta salad, garlic sautéed asparagus, and assorted roasted vegetables. For dessert grilled pineapple with choice of ice cream.

House is all done, sides and appetizers done, yard looks great, DW did a great job with decorations (over the top), beer is chilling, wine cooler is full and in 4 hours a crap ton of folks will be here to celebrate MILs 80th and eat all my food and drink all my booze :-) Have a great day gents!

Sounds good, we have Buca being catered due to number of guests plus it's 90 in the shade today and would be torched if having to cook over grill for this many folk. Enjoy

Happy Sunday. Been an enjoyable, restful day here. Watch some of the French Open on TV and went to the gym. Going to Mass this evening. Still no BBQ plans tomorrow. Looks like we might have to drive over to one of your guys' houses. :lmao:

And that's why you enjoy it. It's just one of those little things that brings a smile to your face before the inevitable.

I guess so. I don't wanna grow up.

Sounds good. You are a bit far away for one meal. But, if I mooched off you the entire week....... :lmao:

I'll be happy to drive down and drink your beer and eat your food anytime you like. :rotfl:

This sounds very much like my evening.
Well, except I'm at work and I'll probably have McDonalds.

But close.... very close.

I guess so. I don't wanna grow up.

Who does!!!

The ribs came out drop dead perfect. Fall off the bone and still moist. Tried a new rub and it has a bit of a kick to it so I may add a little more brown sugar. Also tried a mustard based sauce I picked up in Georgia on a couple of them. Interesting but I think it would be better on chicken. Still a few left for dinner tomorrow.

About an hour into the three hour process. Failed to get a final pic, too ready to dig in.

It depends. If the house was in Anaheim, the queue would be outside while in Orlando, it would be in air conditioning. Not sure if the house was in Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong or soon to be Shanghai though. In Miami you would queue in the house sipping a beverage before you joined the queue outside when the que is ready.

Well, "run" is a relative term. If you can walk fairly fast, you can probably stay below the 16min/mile pace Disney uses. As long as you aren't worried about your actual pace and final time to complete, you get the medal either way. I can walk a 5k fairly comfortably between a 14 and 15 minute pace. If you add in some interval jogs along the way, you can knock that down to around a 13 minute pace so you can probably participate in a Disney Run event and get that medal. ::yes::

Good luck to you.
Thanks! Really appreciate it! :goodvibes

They look awesome. The queuing though? We need to talk about ADR's or FP for your house. Or I would be willing to pay for Club level.

Looks fantastic! The weather here (up and over, for most of you) has been too inconsistent so far. Warm for a couple days and cold the next. Spring in the Canadian north east. Well, there's really no spring. It just goes from late winter to early summer sometime in June. :o
