DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Hope everyone had an enjoyable Christmas. Ours was nice but relatively quiet. Watched Christmas Story while having breakfast and then the loot was opened. I got a Seton Hall Sweatshirt and a cool T-shirt which will debut during DDC. The Pirate Princess made out fairly well, including a new regulator, mesh dive bag, waterproof case and gift certificate to a dive shop. Dinner went over well and we had dessert at the neighbor's house.

Monkey Bread Breakfast, made by the kids
Looks like a great day for the two of you. Love the Christmas dishes - we have the same
'Morning all...
Hope everyone has enjoyed the holidays thus far.
Back to work was the order of the day for me, but it will be a shortened week (though not as short as the last one)

We did see it finally and were generally pleased. I'd like to catch it again in the theaters, but we'll see if the opportunity presents its self. Question... have we all decided upon a statute of limitations on open discussion?
Hope you are enjoying the season with I assume the boy home. Sounds like Jan 2nd is open SW talk day. DS and I have seen 6 times and DW loved it and has seen it twice.
I hope everyone had a great Christmas! We had a good time, but man I'm tired. You'd think 4 days off would be relaxing, but I guess when you're going from one place to the next, then start over and repeat... it is just exhausting. Great to spend time with family but I need a 4 day weekend of not seeing anybody.

Well, we were ok here locally, but we're starting to see some flooding. I might have to go the long way home from work, because I normally drive through what is a flood plane for the Big Blue River. The river is expected to rise another 4' today and the water was almost to the road when I came in this morning.

My sister had a scare on Wednesday. We had a powerful storm move through late afternoon that brought strong straight line winds and heavy rain and dropped a few tornadoes. She is a vet tech and was at work. The vet she works for has a few different offices and they were working in a barn with block walls. She was giving a cat a shot when all of a sudden one of the stalls collapsed and the roof started coming down. They ran outside and by the time they got out the worst of the storm had passed. Nobody hurt, a wall fell on a car and the building, for the most part is still standing. They just lost one horse stall and a section of collapsed roof. It was an EF1 tornado.
Wow, thankful no one hurt and stay safe with the potential flood troubles.
Also finding myself watching the NFL less and less. There is no soul to the game anymore especially of you are a Phins fan. How the game ended was typical of this season.
I'm with you, Saturday games are much more interesting with many good teams and good matchup a every week.
'Morning all...
Quiet 'round the office today. Everyone is using up the leftover vacation days.
Good thing... keeps 'em out of my hair.

Saw my spine doctor today. Things are generally better but my hands are still numb as if they're constantly asleep. He's going to have me see a colleague for an EMG so try and figure out if there is any nerve compression (or worse) or if its just a matter of needing more time. Well see how that goes
Keep us posted on results and may they figure out a solution soon.
All in favor say aye...
Aye
Good morning! Half day of work and then I get to sit around watching football!

Having the college playoff semi-finals on NYE is stupid though. It is causing marital problems in our family. I want to watch MSU/Alabama tonight. DW doesn't. She wants to get together with her sister's family like we do every year and watch movies.

I told her to just invite them over and we'll hang out and watch football instead.

Wish me luck.
Same here, trying to make all happy including me by watching the games. Is a bit nutz having these on NYE.

Happy New Years Dads and to your families as well.

Had a real nice but quiet Christmas with family and friends at our place. I think the kids being so grown up is hitting DW a bit hard as she was so disappointed Christmas Day was over, never seen her like that before. Both kids will be out with their friends tonight and we are just gonna spend a quiet evening with the Inlaws watching college football. We have just been spending family time together taking advantage of all being together, future SIL came home this past Tuesday.

For those going out tonight - be safe, cheers!

Happy New Year'a Eve Everyone,

Korbel Rose is on ice, home made ice cream (vanilla and strawberry) in the freezer and chicken wings will be made soon. Having Buffalo, Lemon Pepper, and Italian Parmigiana. The kid went to the beach so it is just me and the dogs for now. Getting ready for FSU/Houston then the semi-finals. Going to be a good day today, I hope.

Everyone stay safe out there.

Good Morning and Happy New Years! Been up since 3:30 this morning, going to make it hard to see midnight tonight. As a FYI, The Disney Blog will be streaming Wishes from the Magic Kingdom tonight at 11:50 pm. http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/

Beat me, I slept in till 4:30. Thanks for the reminder on Wishes, will be watching. Much better than Kathy Griffin and Anderson Cooper.

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and will have a Happy New Year. May the Force (and Dole Whips) be with you in 2016!!!

Same to you.

Totally agree it sucks. We are invited over to the neighbor's house (hence the chicken wings). The kid wants to go out with friends and I want to stay home and watch football. I know they won't have it on. Plan is for her to go over late afternoon and beg off around 10:00. I am going to give her the food and stop by at half time.

Good luck in your persuit.

Have a happy and safe New years.
Got the Black eyed peas soaking and ready to go in the pot once I get off work. I eat one spoon full every New Years for luck, cant stand them. I am also doing a head of cabbage; we never did greens guess its the Irish side of the family.

Same to you. Ham and BEP will be cooking tomorrow along with steamed broccoli. Fortunately, I like them. Stay safe yourself.

DOWN GOES THE NOLES! DOWN GOES THE NOLES! Couldn't happen to a better team, feel good for Houston. So far 2015 is ending the right way.

Same here. I'm hoping I can find a tv and get the game turned on and some others may get interested. Or, at least let me keep in on.

Yeah, DW's family used to do that as well. We never did though.

I'm just glad I won and we're having them come here rather than going there. I know they wouldn't have the game on. They don't even have ESPN.

First game was a good one. Kind of hoping game 2 will make Fed happy but the Sooners are off to a good start.

Go Sparty!

I hope we can keep it on the big tv. If not and it is a good game I'll go in another room and be anti social.

Gators (at least this one) despise in order, FSU, Georgia, Tennessee and Miami. LSU is also on my personal dislike list. All that changes though when an SEC team plays out of conference and in bowl games.

Winner, winner, chicken wing dinner, glad she relented. Fist game was a good one, Stoops is an old Gator DC so need to root for the Sooners. Breaking rule number 1 of an SEC fan, I am OK with a MSU win.

I think I am going to be anti social. May just send the kid next door with the wings and ice cream and sit here all comfy. First test batch of the wings came out pretty tasty. Maybe send them just the ice cream.

:rotfl2::rotfl::rotfl2: - Ahhh, the good things in life

Got to have your priorities in order.

Just settling in for a movie
(God help me, but probably a chick flick,)
but wanted to wish everyone a

Happy New Year!!!

Happy 2016 Gentlemen. Did not quite make it to New Year. Nodded off about 11:00 and did not wake up until about 12:15 so did not get to see the live steam from the MK. Hope everyone is bright eyed this morning and not feeling the effects of an overindulgent evening.

We rang in the NY a bit early before the Pirate Princess went out with friends. She requested the rose.

I actually wanted to be asleep before midnight, since I had to get up at 5 for work.
Alas, the dog is scared of fireworks and insisted on being comforted.
(Fireworks going off here and there from about 10pm on...)

Good morning all. I survived another year, so that is always a good thing. We went to a friends house out in the county and we (the guys) drank a lot of beer and blew up stuff. It was fun. I read an interesting article about the effects of sugar on weight gain vs inactivity. I do enjoy sugary junk food. There's no sugar in beer, right?

I hope we can keep it on the big tv. If not and it is a good game I'll go in another room and be anti social.

No tv for me to be antisocial on, so I missed the games. I'll be sure to catch Championship game. Why was it on NYE? I hear an interesting commentary, more connected with baseball, that sports games are now viewed as 162 reality tv shows where advertising can be sold. So, it's not about the sport or the fan, but just about the ad/ network revenue.

Yeah, when UL UK play each other, we do have a house divided. Most UK fans continue their idiocy hatred of UL all year long. I think it's great when we can have two or more in state rivalry teams do well, as it draws future student & player interest as well as the money, just not when they play each other.

Happy New Year Dads! As planned quiet night here with ILs and some friends came by. Watched Bama destroy Mich St, Blackhawks win, Wishes, Time Square ball drop & Nashville music note drop. Had dinner out with the ILs & DS before he headed to friends house for the night. Ready to veg and watch football and some of the Winter Classic with Boston & Montreal. Wish my Irish luck today, they're gonna need it I think.

Enjoy the games today CJ. Hate that there are 3 games on at the same time time to start the day off. Why is the Fiesta Bowl kicking off at 10:00 a.m. Local time?

Same to you sir and I too enjoyed the evening from my recliner

A good friend of mine was UL born and bread. His hatred of UK rivaled anything I feel for the Holes or Dogs. Makes college sports fun though.

I am going to enjoy today. Leftover wings, and my skinny butt planted firmly in front of the TV. Really sucks they are playing at the same time. One reason is the Rose Bowl dictates a lot of it. Since ND is playing Urban, they will have my rooting interest. Also not hopeful of Florida beating Michigan but we shall see.

Hope everyone enjoys the New Year.

15 starters injured this season in total and now the best linebacker in college football and a top 3 NFL draft pick gets hurt. Aaaaahhhhhh… like I sad wish ND luck today they are gonna need it with 3rd string defensive backs playing. Looks like I will be watching more hockey this afternoon than I thought.

Happy New Year Dads! I've been happy to close the books on the last few years and am hoping for a better 2016. May 2016 be a better year for all of us than 2015 and may your bacon and dole whips be plentiful.

Got back from the "vacation" :headache: home about 2 hours ago. It was a relatively good break. Got done the projects I had enough money for, and my in-laws and parents all came down and visited (separate times thankfully). Unfortunately, dad got lost all three mornings trying to get from the hotel to our house and it is less than 5 miles. He is really starting to look and act like his dad but he'll be 79 in the April though so I'm happy he is still able to get around. I see more trips to NY in my future rather than them coming down to visit.

Now I'm in the office getting ready for meeting season to kick off. First one starts Sunday night-Tuesday and need to check the Powerpoints and see if there is any way to make sprayer calibration more interesting for a Monday morning talk. I have my doubts. SWMBO and the kids are still up north. They have most of their schoolwork with them and no point in them being down here if I am going to be gone. I'm frugal, or cheap as SWMBO says, and will leave the heat off in most of the house until they get back. Some genius thought that radiant ceiling heat was a good idea :sad2: so I just turn it on in the bathroom and the bedroom unless they are around. I can hang out in the office, get some work done, and save money this way.

Good planning. Or lucky. Whatever, it worked out.

Just over an hour left at work, then....
Drive home, grab the tickets, wife and one kid, drive over to my folks' and grab my sister, then off to see Star Wars finally!
After, drive back to the parental's house and have Chinese food.
