DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Afternoon / evening gents! The post WDW trip blues is being enhanced by the creeping crude we all had during the trip still lingering. Much easier to deal with colds when at the DaWorld then when ya get back to reality. Good luck to everyone's teams this weekend and let's get Elsa to freeze time tomorrow for just our members so we can avoid that Monday coming up.
Hi! I came across this thread and figured I should join seeing as I scored a near perfect score when looking at criteria to join! I'm David from Northern Virginia and while my DW and I have both been to Disney several times in our single days we just brought our DD4 and DS2 to WDW for the first time and I need to go back ASAP.

Congrats on the Ravens win tonight Randall. They were the better team.

Alright, I need some opinions. My wife and I have a trip planned to Disneyland with the kids of course. Hotel booked, all ready to go. It's just one night and we live about and hour and half away from the park. I kind of want to leave the kids with my in-laws. We have never done that before. Have any of you? Did you feel awful for leaving the kids out? I don't want to get there and just feel guilty. It just seems like it would be so freaken awesome. A couple days in the parks actually getting to ride some real attractions...together. I swear, if I ride Arial one more time...

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I've gone to WDW once and US, 3 times without DD. I did feel alittle guilty at first when planning the trip but I told myself, parents are allowed adult time and trips and I will take her soon (she's been 3 times since about to be 4) as far as US goes, I haven't ever felt guilty, DD7 (turns 7 today) I think US is a park for teens and adults mainly

We did a 7 day trip in 2008 without DS, he was 6 at the time and he still doesn't know about it. :lmao: That being said, there were times when we wished he was with us but we did enjoy the trip without him. Go for it, parents need some alone time as well.

Getting ready for another day of football.

Morning my beardless nemesis. The Colts going to take the Bungals today?

Yikes, sounds like you need an intervention.

Unfortunately, there isn't much hope. I'm always behind the 8 Ball. DW's parents and brother are first

Yes, please get Elsa to freeze time.

We've never been without dds, except before they were born. And, we are 13 hours away by car, and I can't afford a solo trip, otherwise, I would be at the DDC3 right now. I don't think I would feel guilty about going though. Also, keep in mind that your children are really young and you can just tell them their memory is wrong. :lmao:

You should feel guilty about not taking me on your trips. :crazy2:

First off, welcome aboard! :welcome:

As far as leaving the kids, you seem to be so close that I suspect the kiddos will have plenty of park trips in their future. I am firm believer that parents need some time away from the kids every now and again. It just so happens that your time away happens to be at a kid-friendly place. IMO, I think you and the DW should go and have a blast. Bring some souvenirs back for the kids and grandparents and all will be well.

Howdy, guys! Go Colts!

Getting ready for another day of football.
The games will be on my TV but today's focus is getting the Christmas decorations down and then youngest's bball practice.

Unfortunately, there isn't much hope. I'm always behind the 8 Ball. DW's parents and brother are first
Painful situation. I suspect that you'll make the most of it though.

Yes, they will win!!!

Happy New Year Men!

Just watching the Indy/Cincy game and decided to say hello and wish all those heading to DDC a great time and safe travels.

My hoop team destroyed the competition yesterday, winning 50-6. The team really should not be in the top division. We played zone the whole second half, ran the offense through 3 times before shooting and basically did not try to run it up. The coach kept putting on the full court press. We got a lot of lay ups off of it and I refuse to not take the lay up off a press when I have clearly made the effort to limit our scoring and the response is to go full court and try to steal the ball from us.

DD team won by 17 and DD had a great game with 11 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. We played a pretty good team, but they were not very big. Both teams now at 5-1. DS team is now 5-0 as well so a good winter so far on the courts.

Hi Everyone,

My name is Joe or dadof2boys. I was reading a review by Andy and he had mentioned this forum. From what I can tell, I've found the most awesome support group.

I live in North San Diego with my wife and 2 sons, they're 5 and 7. I have NEVER been to "the world", which is not for lack of planning. I am constantly planning that trip. For the last year I have just been running different scenarios with different budgets for when the big day finally comes. We want to wait until the boys are old enough or brave enough to go on a majority of the rides.

We have been annual pass holders to DLR for 15 years. I think that because we have gone so often the boys are kind of over it, which is INSANE! My oldest one is all about the "resort" part of it. He'll stay at the Disneyland Hotel all day everyday, he just isn't that into the parks.

Our next Disneyland trip is scehduled for a one nighter on January 29th. That happens to be my youngests birthday. Anyhow, I've already said a lot. I look forward to getting to know all of you.

Welcome to the club Joe!

Morning, men. Back to the daily grind for me. Sort of. I am heading to the office and cutting out at noon to watch Pitt's bowl game. My friend put it best when we were discussing how much vacation we each had left..."I'm going to work so that I don't have to watch the Pitt game."

Not a good week for you. Still can't believe the Ravens beat the Steelers that easily. Looks like the a Pats/Ravens match up next week and Randall will be buying the Dole Whips after the Pats win by 13.

Friday end of vacation ownage.
So, while out grocery shopping today, oldest dd uses microwave (against the rules) and burns the popcorn. And by burns it, I'm guessing it was on fire and it really stinks inside the house hours later despite candles burning and windows open.

Gotta love those kids. I pretty much end up cleaning at least once a week after a coking event gone wrong.

Evening guys. Store is certainly a lot quieter now but I seem to be as busy as ever. Better then bored I guess.

Came to realize that my initial trip plans were way off, had to re o it to more recent information. End result, and extra day in the World to make it all fit in :thumbsup2 Going to be one long but fun trip, that's for sure. Hope to get it booked officially next week, when our TA is back in town. Looks like Aug 22-Sept 5 is going to be it. Still waiting on a few wildcards to play out.:goodvibes

Sounds like you got everything planned pretty well. We still have to make final decisions, but that 180 days is coming up fast. I think we are there the 20th -27th as it stands now at the YC.

It's hard to maintain a high degree of success across so many sports platforms. We've been fortunate with the Steelers and Penguins and the Pirates are finally turning the corner. I am familiar with the New England area franchises. I grew up a Lakers fan (Magic Johnson) while my dad and grandfather were Celtics fan. As an adult I have a profound respect for the 80s\90s squad.

As a Steelers fan, I HATE the Patriots but absolutely respect the hell out of them. 2 AFC losses at home, yeah not my favorite memories! I was at the 05 one and beer was actually freezing. My seats were in the metal bleachers and had a layer of ice on them when we got inside!

I was a big Yankees fan b\c Dave Winfield was my favorite. I also was rooting for the Sox in the 86 World Series as I had several friends that were Mets fans. I may never forgive Bill Buckner.

Buckner is still one of those 4 letter words around here.:rotfl2::rotfl2: I was hoping to see the Steelers make the trip to NE for the AFC championship, but they just didn't have enough offense without L'evion.

I was at the Titans/Pats game years back when the temps were -28 wind chill. The beer was frozen solid in about 8 minutes if you didn't drink fast enough.:faint:

It's gone.

:eek::scared1::eek:

I forgot to note this. Finally had the Pumpking that was aged in a rum barrel. It had a very unique, whisky-like flavor. I twas delicious but STRONG. It was 10.75% My buddy and I drunk the bottles on New Year's Eve. DELICIOUS!

Thanks for sharing.:mad::mad:

Afternoon everyone. The tree and decorations are being put away. Also, some news on the outlaw vacation. Looks like we are going June 21 to June 27 to a resort to be determined. The plan is for Universal, Sea World, and whatever else. I'm still trying to talk DW into adding some Disney days to it at the end of the trip, but no luck so far.

Doesn't "whatever else" clearly mean a couple days of Disney at the end to wash it down? Are you looking at staying at the Universal resorts or somewhere off property?

Welcome David. If we get too many more, we'll have to start color coding you guys.:lmao::lmao:

Welcome. Dues are payable in dole whips, bacon, beer, or cake. You mail enough for 790 to me, and then I mail to all the guys. The plan is foolproof. :lmao:

As long as you aren't a David from Indiana, it should be ok. DW and I did out honeymoon in WDW, but it was that first trip with both dds that was the most magical.

Still waiting Norm......waiting......And always watching.:rolleyes1

Never gone without the kids. I have gone with one or the other just the two of us, but never DW and I without them. Probably because DW would prefer somewhere different if we left the kids behind. I think having time with DW is important no matter where you go. I suggest planning a second trip to help get rid of those guilty feelings.:thumbsup2

Afternoon David. It looks like the Bungles don't have the firepower to win this game. Dalton just can't get it done based on the first half. down 6, on the 40+ yard line. Let's see if they can score some points.

Screen, loss of 4, short pass for decent gain. Those two plays basically burned 30 second and they had to burn their last time out. That basically explains all. No Green or Gresham, no offense.

Made chicken soup for lunch, with enough left over for dinner and lunch tomorrow. Yum!

Doesn't "whatever else" clearly mean a couple days of Disney at the end to wash it down? Are you looking at staying at the Universal resorts or somewhere off property?

It will be the newest of the value resort they built there - Cabana Bay? Whatever else has been set as Universal, Islands of Adventure, Sea World, Busch Garden, a day I'm not yet privy too (but a repeat of one of those four). I did check DVC availability and there were two days available at the VGF, which would be cool to try.

Gotta love those kids. I pretty much end up cleaning at least once a week after a coking event gone wrong.

coking event? Now I know how you make all those WDW trips. Business must be good. :lmao:

I was at the Titans/Pats game years back when the temps were -28 wind chill. The beer was frozen solid in about 8 minutes if you didn't drink fast enough.:faint:
:

Not drink beer fast enough? Really confused. :confused3 :lmao:

Yes, they will win!!!

Confidence!!! Really, how can you not be - they are the Bungals.

Painful situation. I suspect that you'll make the most of it though.

Sadly, i'm used to it.

I'm in WDW right now without my kids. Having a great time and don't feel guilty at all.

Evening guys. Gotta agree that the games so far this weekend are a bit lame and the Cowboys are on their way to another potential choke. Good deal on the kids hoops results there Jim. Safe travels to the Dads headed to DaWorld for DDC3 and for a very enjoyable time & meet. Would love to be there but just can't make this time of year work with the day job. Keep everyone in line while down there Randall. Have a nice night all!
