DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
I have the summer off. Due back to work Sept 12th. ...but, now I need my right hip replaced. Not sure how'll I work that out.

Good grief. You're going to be a fully bionic man soon. Hang in there, dude.

I see your point. The only problem for me is MK...parking, then tram, then monorail or boat. The waits for that tend to be worse than the bus to MK.

I agree. I think driving yourself is great for every other park. Not sure it saves you much time at MK.

Well at least it's scheduled so you know what to expect.
My overlords wrote me out for six weeks for my spine procedure, but I ended up being required to work from home nearly half of those recovery days.

Typical...

:sad2: The beatings will continue until morale improves!

Frankly, I couldn't care less about either of them, or the original Star Wars films. Unpopular view in this group, I know. :duck:

That's ok. Makes me feel better about not watching the World Cup.

I was opening a shop during the Euros a few years ago, and watched us against Portugal in a republican pub in Northern Ireland. There were 4 of us, and were quietly told by the Landlord that we should leave for our own safety. He was deadly serious.

:scared1:

This happened a couple of days ago... After it's quick workup, DD was helping a juvenile Tiger swim off to make sure she was good to go. A highlight of her week.

Holy crap. She has a lightsaber AND a pet shark. That's the most bada$$ photo of all time.

Morning boys from another 25c London. Not much on today apart from the football. Everyone is getting a little bit ahead of themselves over here, talking about which side of the draw is better.
a> seeing as we haven't won a knockout game since 2006
b> to progress in any tournament by definition you are going to have to play some good teams;

Or maybe a rule that drop shots are banned?
,

I imagine you never thought you'd be cheering for Harry Kane. You could always post the success of the USA men's world cup teams. And yes, drop shots are currently banned. My pickle ball prowess depends on my reflexes as I'm not moving my feet. :lmao:

Holy crap. She has a lightsaber AND a pet shark. That's the most bada$$ photo of all time.

If only there was someone with mad photoshop skills who could really add that light saber in there.

As the announcer said, "3 -2 -1.... It's soccer time." Well almost.

Yes but his bday is not til the 10th just celebrating with grandparents this weekend as we will be at DaWorld. I will be taking him first to the UK, then France, then Japan, then Italy, then Mexico then back to America and then wherever else he wants to go for his first legal drink.

Got it. Not bad on your 21st, drinking around the World.

Germany is out. Justice.

Yes. Yes it is.

I have to tell you CJ last night we went to see Jurassic World and one of the upcoming movie trailers was of a movie called The MEG, needless to say I thought of the Fearless PP :scared1:. Even with this pic I would not go near it wondering where momma was:confused3. I gotta give her ALOT of respect :thumbsup2

No worries about momma, she abandoned her right after birth.

I'm fairly relaxed about tonight's game, apart from injuries.

Big one today. Even though I picked Belgium to win it all, good luck to the lions.

That. Is. Awesome.

Thanks, she thought it was pretty cool.

Yeah, I hear that. My mate got the cold shoulder and glares all week when he did a tour of the South of France, because he was driving round in a Volkswagen. He said it was particularly virulent in the small villages.

The damn French. So Germany started 2 world wars. You still have to hold it against them?

That's ok. Makes me feel better about not watching the World Cup.

You don't know what you are missing. A lot of great matches.

Never thought about her poking stick as a lightsaber. Like it though.

OK Dan @londontime , I need some edumacation...is this game today a big deal or not? I must admit to being rather ill informed on "the beautiful game", but as I understand, the mother country has already made it into the next round. So do they need a win against Belgium or no? Makes a difference to placement/opponent?

The only problem for me is MK...parking, then tram, then monorail or boat. The waits for that tend to be worse than the bus to MK.
Yes, I am not sure if I will be driving to MK. The extra monorail/boat ride can be longer than the bus.

But, here's my reasoning on that (and again, it's what works for me)...
The TTC process does take time, but for us it's mostly about getting back to the resort .
After a long day on your feet at the MK, standing stationary in a line that is at least four of five buses deep and then standing stationary on that over-packed bus is physically more painful than it is if I can keep moving and sit down a few times on the way. There are generally much shorter lines for the ferry/monorail and trams (and they all carry larger loads then a single bus), so less time just standing in one spot there. I also "stand" a better better chance of getting a seat while were on those so more time to rest the aching joints. But I also kind'a see them as attractions unto themselves and from my first visit back in early 72 they were an integral part of the experience. That also makes me more tolerant of the time factor. going in I'm less patient of course ('cause everyone want's to get to the Magic), but we're usually out front waiting for rope drop even when traveling via the TTC so it's not that much of a consideration.
Also an excellent point of view.
I'm really not sure what I'll do for MK.
This whole rental car idea is a bit of an experiment...one I on'y committing to after seeing a deal for $100 cheaper. I have not driven a car in WDW since 2008. I'll see how I feel about it after I guess.

It's a very conflicting situation. Seeing as half the team are Sp*rs players.

You're right mate, we don't need diddly from this game to progress into the next stage of the tournament. It's counter intuitive, but if you look at world rankings alone, it would be better to lose this game, as due to the underperformance of other countries in groups they were seeded to win, and instead they came second, they have effectively ended up in one half of the draw, which is the half that the winner of our group is in.

So if we lose, we have to play probably Switzerland, Spain to reach the World Cup Final, so not too bad. If we win, we have to play Brazil and France which is theoretically much tougher. The first game is pretty much the same. The Brazil, France bracket also has Mexico, Uruguay and Portugal, so even if you get an upset, they are still pretty tough opponents. Outside of Spain the right hand side of the draw has no depth.

Wished you hadn't asked now?

Mark's too busy watching the "Philly Philly" play 27 times a day to watch football.

Cheers buddy. It will be interesting to see them play against a bigger team. One thing they haven't done yet is gone behind and had to come back.

:rotfl2:Thanks you gents for the humor this morning. Needed some light hearted banter this morning.

Senegal vs Columbia a good game. Senegal has surprised me.

I was thinking about the picture Barry did with Fed? He photo shopped Joe Camel over the fish. Hilarious. Who cares if the public sees it.

.

Yeah, that grouping determination does add yet another layer of Fifa corruption stench to it. I get scheduled last and then can play to lose to get the easier draw.

Morning Guys.

Getting a bit of rain here today, much needed rain it is. Another soccer win for the Kia Lions last night; World Cup 2027 is looking good.

Looking forward to the England/Belgium game in a couple of hours, hopefully they both go for the win.

Cool photo. That's quite the shiv she's got there.

'Morning all...
Long slow week down here (hot too, which slows things down more).
We're going to try and take in a public concert in the park this evening,so that should be a nice diversion.

Certainly not your average day job...

Experiment away.
Suggestions mean little; practical experience rules.

Just hang your handicap placard up, go to valet parking at Polly and ride the monorail to MK. It's good to be bionic.
Partly bionic...
Don't qualify for one of them there placards though.

Too bad Barry's not still hanging around. He'd be on it.

You don't know what you are missing. A lot of great matches.

My brother tried to get me into the World Cup the last time it was hosted here in the U.S. I tried, but it just didn't take. I think every game ended 1-0 that year. I would get to the point where I would tell him I didn't need to watch any more of a particular game because someone had already scored the goal. He didn't think it was funny.

Anyway, as I said before, I fully acknowledge my own hypocrisy due to the fact that I watch golf.

Mark's too busy watching the "Philly Philly" play 27 times a day to watch football.

You know, I'm good with that. It's like the Shawshank Redemption of Super Bowls. Every time it's on TV, I have to stop what I'm doing and watch through the end.

Remember that metal plate in my head, Clark?

What the HE!! is fair play points?

Yup, right now that's the tie breaker between England and Belgium as well. England is ahead 2 yellows to 3.

If the points, goal difference, goals scored and goals against stays the same (ie. if they draw) then fair play rules will come into play.

The rules state that over the course of the three group games:

  • sides lose one point per yellow card
  • three points are lost for a red card (two yellows)
  • they lose four points for a direct red

Great way to determine who moves on. Guess it is better than a coin flip.

I'm too far behind to catch up.
Pixie dust, prayers, congrats, etc.
I miss anything important that I should know about?

Did Belgium go to the parking lot for players for today's game? They play Hazard, just not the right one. England's not much better. At least they are playing Vardy.

Remember that metal plate in my head, Clark?

My hair, it just won't look right.

Penalty cards. This may be the worse game of the group rounds. Parking lot players flopping to get cards to determine their next opponent. :lmao:
