DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Okay, general question for all DISdads...

Where is the best place to watch fireworks at MK without having to deal with the pushing and shoving that happens in the central area?
I know you can do dessert party (for a cost) on tomorrowland terrace as well as the viewing from the boat (again cost). I think Norm mentioned the bridge to tommorowland because you can sit on benches, walls or rockers. Where are some other good spots? I'm thinking maybe going behind the castle might be an option next time since the projections on the castle didn't do much for me, but wondering about other good spots y'all may know about.

This is going to be out of the box of the answers you will get , as for us since we are bored of the fireworks we have found a new way to view them, Watching the fireworks while on Big Thunder Mountain has a dual purpose of a ride and fireworks at every turn:thumbsup2

Morning all. DW said that we did 20,000+ steps yesterday for 9 miles. I'm exhausted and need a vacation.

last week at WDW the app was down a lot of the time, This was my greatest moment with 14 people with different times and FP's, I was able to look at my little notebook and direct everyone where they had to go:goodvibes. And my wife actually said I will never make fun of your notebook again :cool1:. :scratchinmaybe I'm on to something:thumbsup2

True. I still copy/paste my FP and ADRs to my calendar and access that when needed. Plus, i get a full day view of everything.

All but Hallowishes. That's the last good one worth watching.

Morning folks.

I hate mornings, folks.

Not from WDW.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Working last night with the family on 2019 WDW plans which always puts me in a good mood. DS and I also got our tickets for Star Wars Celebration next April in Chicago. Was going to splurge on what they call VIP tix which reduces lines, early entry, special access, etc but those were literally sold out less than 1 minute after tickets went on sale. They had an on-line que that started at 12 and I got in before my computer read 12:01 and all sold out - WTH!?!?!? Thanks for the slight rant as it will be me and DS in SW nerd land for a few days and in Chicago so really shouldn't complain.
Wheni retire, I'm not working at WDW, I'm sitting in WDW. Lol
I have my benches already picked out and I have given them each a test drive over the last few years. Lol

NORM! I'm guessing this is the trip report? Looks like your having fun. I'm well into phase 4 of wdw trips. I went as a kid, honeymoon, with kid and now just the two of us again ( a little older and slower ) but just the two of us.
Can't say either was better than the other, all just different experiences. I must say, we are enjoying ourselves in phase 4! Lol After all these years, we both still look forward to each trip.
Money grabs, expensive? Yes, can't argue with any of it. Being a going on 20 year member of DVC, TIW and a AP holder, I still can't find a better place with as much to do that interest us for the money.
Cast members are a special breed of people. I admire each and every one of them. For a long time, my dream was to work there, who knows, maybe some day I will, can never say never but when I asked a cm if it killed the magic? I was told, it was fun, experience was great but she had one question for me, do you like to vacation where you work?
Lol. I gave that question a lot of thought.......... lol
Pretty much agree, had a taste of just me and DW for a couple days back in Feb but looking forward to our us only first Food & Wine and first MNSSHP in September. We are similar to Norm in terms of taking advantage to the non-park activities and enjoying the resorts way more. Our upcoming trip will be the first with all kids over 21 so that provides some new options as well as our family trips are now a large adult group. We are looking forward to some grandchildren trips too at some point the good lord willing so thinking about it
Phase 1 = as a kid
Phase 2 = as parent with young kids
Phase 3 = teen kids
Phase 4 = with DW only
Phase 5 = with adult children
Phase 6 = with grandchildren
Phase 7 = retiree with DW only
Phase 8= Bench sitting with Norm & Dave
Phase 9 = teen grandchildren (maybe stretching this one but what the heck)
Phase 10 = Family on inherited DVC points (I'll always be there in spirit with them)

:thumbsup2 I still print out a day plan for each day with hours, FP times, dining, etc and when discussing the MDE sytem issues was able to demonstrate a point to DS as to "that's why I still do the old way as a backup"

There's no complaining at WDW......... Sounds like you are having a blast enjoy your no park day, what's the game plan for today?

Looked it up and it seems like an peaceful spot.

That is is. Apparently some Royals made an appearance here a few years back, William and Kate spent an afternoon here while they were on their honeymoon I think. I feel so special now.

Ummm...can someone send me DDC events? I don't do facebook, so I can't find them that way.

Nothing really planned out yet.

Man, that's a lot of phases. Lol
When in September are you going Mike? We will be at Boardwalk the 8th and leaving the 22nd.

I never even thought about WDW with grandchildren, so yes, that would be another stage. I hope I don't get your stage 10. BWV expires in 2042 I think. Hopefully, I'm not expired by then.

That's correct. I seldom go to WDW and when I do go it's for only a few hours.
Disney cruises.

Great minds think alike  Regarding September, we arrive Saturday the 15th and leave on Wednesday the 19th and, wait for it........... we are at BWV as well so sounds like an easy meet up(s).

The majority of our points drop in 2058 and then the balance drop 2063 so I would be 93 in 2058............
Been there, done that, doing it on a cruise too!
That's great! Knew you had grandkids but wasn't sure if you did any Disney trips yet. Something I hope all of us get to enjoy some day.

And do not miss Mme ... ah crap. Can’t remember her name. Anyway, woman (ghost) who hangs out in front of HM.
I think there are two ladies (who take turns). I believe one is Carlotta. Maybe the other is Leota, although I may be getting that mixed up with the name of the crystal ball lady on the ride.

Beautiful inn in a house built in 1895 on the north shore of the Island. It is certainly one of the smallest rooms I have been in and there is no TV or clocks in the room.
Sounds wonderful. I would love to get back to PEI. No TV or clocks would be a nice break on vacation, just maybe not for a business stay.

I'm not ready to leave DW behind on a trip, and I still have girls in HS.
Same here. I would like to get to a DDCC but don't think it will ever happen.

Sounds like fun, despite not getting the VIP tickets. Not sure how well I could manage the crowd, but no worse than fireworks in the hub I guess.

You could do like I'm doing...
Giving them a trip to beach (maybe Vero beach...they both loved that) during the time they're off and then I'll go solo the following week.

Normally, I wouldn't want to have a vacation without them or have them go on vacation without me, but it wouldn't be the first time since not having vacation time from work has precluded me going other times, so it's manageable.

RON !!!! How are ya? !!!! Can't believe how big your son is already. I'm friends with your dw on FB and man, is he growing up fast.
I don't really want to admit it but, we kinda don't watch parades and fireworks anymore. In fact, we avoid them. Lol
I guess we are just getting old. I stayed for wishes twice since it's inception and I was, well, let just say happy from drinking around the world and man, that railing was a big help for a while the last time. Lol
