DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Happy Thursday. Took both dds to Orthodontist. Oldest is set to get hers off. He wants youngest to have a frenectomy (?), to cut out that top ligament so her teeth won't gap. I'm taking a sick day just to recover from how much this is going to cost. :scared1::sad2:

I'm on my way. I'll sleep in the spare room. Can we have BBQ buffet on Sunday?
.

Fly on over. The flight may offset your savings though. We can eat BBQ Sunday. They won't have fried catfish, but will have everything else.

Well...
1) I rarely drink
2) I'd never heard of PVW before
3) I was talking about what Dan said it cost in GBP and what that was in USD
4) Because of 1 & 2, I had absolutely no idea what it cost in the ATL area
5) Looking at their website, it's $170 a bottle, so at $27 a pour, wherever you're paying that is making a killing
:lmao:

Like Dan explained, they only make less than 10,000 bottles a year, usually ready in October. The distillery cannot sell directly to customers. There are distributors and retailers who are on their "list" to receive bottles. These retailers are then of course permitted to sell the bottles and whatever price and thru whatever method. Some have pre-arrangements with customers (the high paying regulars). Some hold lotteries for a bottle. Then, there is the resale market, where you can get into the whole private bidding enterprise. So, the distillery sells it for $170, but the first customer isn't walking away with a bottle for less than $300. After that, it's anyone guess.

Okay Disdads...
.

My favorite was the pineapple/ vanilla swirl dole whip float. However, the one in MK stopped the swirl, and i was fine with the pineapple dole whip float. Challenging decisions.

But what about the public shaming?

Oh... Right... Nevermind.

:lmao: I'm glad the stocks are no longer permitted in the USA. My wife would have be in there daily.

Here's another from that same morning. This one will be a question, but I won't reveal the answer here because that would give @pkondz, @Captain_Oblivious, @Terra Nova guy and @afwdwfan and unfair advantage.

Did I notice the railing was not flat and save my tea?
OR
Did I set it down and watch it plummet to the ground and have to call the front desk?

I must've missed where Dan said that.

If I wanted it, I'm not sure I'd care how many bottles they made in October, but rather how many bottles they made in October 20 years ago.
:rotfl2:

It may not be duty free, but when you're visiting here, you could buy a bottle and take back home, no? As I said, I don't drink often, so buying duty free alcohol has never been a priority for me, so I don't know all the rules, but I think if it's for personal use, it's okay.
You can bring one bottle back, but the reality is even if you fess up, they don't care. I've brought 5 back from the states which is supposed to subject to import duty, I went through the red line as I didn't want them confiscated, picked up the phone and said I had 5 bottles of Bourbon for personal use. The customs guy said "Thanks for your honesty, carry on walking through" and put the phone down.
As Norm said the release is list based and then its just mark up at discretion. I've never seen a bottle under £300. The best way to get it in ya belly is a tasting evening, as a lot of firms do the "Pappy Flight" where you get to taste the 10, 15, 20 and 23. Sometimes it's a bit of emperors new clothes. People have to have it because its the best. I've seen someone put coke with it. I wanted to slap him.

Hey guys. 15 days away from our next trip down to wdw. Kids are getting excited. I just need to get through work to get there...

Proud parent moment! Tonight was the basketball team awards banquet and DS was awarded Rookie of the Year for the varsity team. Couldn't be prouder of my boy!

Sweet! Congrats!

Morning boys from a Wintry London. The kids are slightly depressed that school is closed. Which I suppose is a good thing. DS is probably a bit relieved that Parent's evening is cancelled though. He's a really smart boy, but he can be a bit lazy. Digging the sleds out of the attic.

Surprised by the snow you're getting over there. I have an office up in Cambourne that I travel to a few times a year- They're always telling me that they get a dusting at best during the winter, while we're normally under 5 feet of snow over here... Meanwhile you guys now have the snow and it's 55 degrees F here... :sunny:

*(desperately checks where Cambourne is)
::yes::
Yep, snow is relatively rare over here, and if it does come, its a 2 day light snow dump and then move on. Randall picked a hell of a week to visit our corner of the world. DS really has only seen real snow in NY, we were in Manhattan and the Hamptons in Jan 2014, and the Upper West Side in 2016 when the snow hit. It got for a while that it wasn't a NY trip unless we got a text from the governor telling us to stay in.

Well that's a relatively low number. We are 28 days from Atlanta, and 37 from wdw.

Ice cream maker is churning away so I guess a sundae is on the menu tonight.

2 days!!!!

Whoopee. Looking forward to getting together on the 10th. Unfortunately the Pirate Princess is leaving that morning for Nicaragua. This is for the Cousteau project for a conservation park (the one she suggested kayaking in crocodile infested waters). I guess the plan is to meet at Bayside and head to the game.

I hope y'all don't want to kick me out, but this was my first dole whip.

I am even worse. I don't like Dole Whips but prefer the Citrus Swirl. Pair that with spiced rum.

Proud parent moment! Tonight was the basketball team awards banquet and DS was awarded Rookie of the Year for the varsity team. Couldn't be prouder of my boy!

Congrats to him. Nice accomplishment.

You do realize I'm married and the yelling will be highly ineffective, right? :lmao:

But what about the public shaming?

Oh... Right... Nevermind.

:lmao: I'm glad the stocks are no longer permitted in the USA. My wife would have be in there daily.

Too funny.

Saw the pics of you enjoying yourselves. Did a snowball fight break out?

Let me know if it happens and I'll fly over.

Guess there is some loophole because you can buy a barrel at Makers Mark. Is it a county thing?

Trudge away because you will be sent free in 2 weeks. Have a blast.

My UK diving buddy sent me an email yesterday. He and his son did a trip to New Zealand/Australia. He said yesterday he was sipping cocktails near the Sydney Opera House and the next day he arrived at his doorstep looking like Ernest Shackleton.

Depends on we’re you get them. Ah, who am I trying to kid? They are all good, some better than others.

I bet. How is the Queen enjoying the birthday trip?

I doubt it is a county thing. That's what they had on their website. But, it works for them, then I doubt they are changing it. Only producing a small supply keeps the price up.

As for Maker's Mark, is that an "Ambassador's Club" member, you can buy the bottle? Or, perhaps there are considered an onsite retailer.

Don't doubt it works for them. Same thing with smaller boutique wine companies. Makers must be an onsite retailer. They had it for sale in the tasting room, you could dip your own bottle in the wax and like I said you could buy a barrel. Maybe that is an "Ambassador's Club" membership.

Thanks Cj. I'll reach out to you on the 10th when we get to out hotel.

Those self- bottle dippers travel around and make sells as well. Of course, you have to buy the bottle and sign your life away on a release. If you find one at Christmas, you can self dip Green and red wax.

Morning boys from another Brass Monkeys day in the mother country. We literally have naff all on the agenda today. The kids were out for 6 hours yesterday, so I've allowed them some screen time. I feel a few games of Crash Bandicoot in my near future.

Do you stay in Cambridge or in London? If you're in London at a loose end, let me know, I'm about 20 mins away.
They are all good, some better than others.
This.
He said yesterday he was sipping cocktails near the Sydney Opera House and the next day he arrived at his doorstep looking like Ernest Shackleton.
He's from up North, right? They have had it much worse up there.
Did a snowball fight break out?
At the golf course was good, as you could use the bunker banks as cover. We met a few of DS's and Curly's little mates over there, we all hopped the fence and had the place basically to ourselves. DS loves it when we break the rules.

Have a good Friday fellas.

Good choice. That was my DS's favorite game when he was young. Likely an older version than you have...it was on PS1 and PS2.
