DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
DS played in his first basketball game last night since his injury. He managed several short shifts and other than his fitness level he did all right. They have a practice tonight and if he can get through that I think we will be off to a tournament in Halifax this weekend. It was great to see him on the court again.
Good to see him back in action. Hope he gets to the tournament.

So you are on a steady diet of beer, chicken wings and pizza for the next few days?
The take out places are definitely on speed dial.

Maybe you can invite their cousins ice cream and coffee over as well.
Been hitting the ice cream the last couple nights. There may also have been an incident with half a bag of Oreos last night.

m a 30C London. Trains from the city were crocked, so all the way home on the tube. I've been in Thailand cathouses that smelt better than that tube. Anyway, showered and sitting in the garden of my little piece of England.
The tube doesn't smell very fresh at the best of times, I can only imagine the aroma on a hot day. Relaxing in the garden sounds like a nice way to get over it.

It's been a while since I visited this side of the DisDads. Been on the FB site as it's easier with my phone. Hope all are well. I'm going to go back and read all 626 pages now.
Nice to see you back. We'll be expecting a report on the 626 pages.

Clearly, the only cure is to start planning that trip for next year.
Seriously thinking about it.

How is that working out for you??
So far DW has been complaining about the heat and the time taken up by the dance rehearsal and getting ready for it (costume, hair, makeup). So I'm kind of ok missing that part. But still hard to see the pictures of them in front of the castle. I'm going to need my own trip soon.

I think they owe you. See you in January
It's definitely crossed my mind. I might just show up!

'Morning all...
Been a rather busy work week or I'd have dropped in considerably sooner.
Congrats & Prayers as needed, Dole Whips & bacon for all.

Now then, I've a question for y'all.
It seems that Photobucket has taken to blocking all third party linking.
They are now expecting you to actually pay them something resembling money for hosting images
(the nerve of some businesses )

Needless to say this development has fouled up a few things, like my Sig for starters (which ain't a big deal) but it's made a right mess of my TRs (and whether or not I've been good about updating them is beside the point for now). So the question is:

What image hosting sites do y'all use or recommend and how straight forward or convoluted are they to work with?

You're definitely not the first...they've Peanut Butter'ed a bunch of TRs and posts. I've seen some folks who've mentioned imgur, but I'd suggest just upload them directly to Dis (Upload a file button). No telling since photobucket did it, imgur might soon also.

Looking for a solution as well. I do have some stuff with Flikr but the vast majority of my photos are with Photobucket and I am not paying what they want to charge, it;s atrocious.

You would need to resize all the files to upload directly, most would be way too big and you will get the message that the server can't process them.

Skipping the tournament this weekend in order to make sure he can play next weekend which is the last tournament for this team. He hasn't had enough time in practice yet to get through an entire tournament. It does bite that he will only get one good weekend with the provincial team but another team has asked him to play in Montreal the last weekend in July so I think he will do that. The bonus there is the team is coached by his high school's new varsity coach.

So which take out gets the order tonight? Or maybe one of those family friendly spots on George St?

As I explained to someone in a PM, I'm an IT guy and this is typical in the IT world. Offer something for free, get people hooked and then start charging them. Microsoft has perfected this technique because they give all their stuff away for free to schools and then charge a small fortune for businesses and for personal use. When something is advertised as "free", my BS filter goes on full alert...somebody is paying for it and if they are, there's some ulterior motive behind it. Same with "free" shipping for Amazon prime...it's not really free, you just pay more for the item so essentially the shipping is bundled in. Same with "free" email with Google...they scan and track and tons of ads to make their money. Those are just a few...there are tons.

I didn't realize you'd have to resize them...I've uploaded a few files to Dis, but I confess not large ones from my camera.

I get it isn't free but I have been using Photobucket for years and embedding the photos in things like trip reports still drives clicks to their crappy site. Not sure if Flikr is a good option or not.

I get it. I don't use photobucket, but I've seen a lot of messed up TRs as a result. I wish there was a better and/or easy answer. :sad2:

Ready to call it, Dan?

Always ready, Norm. OK boys, thats it. Whistle time. I'm calling it. Work week over. All out. Everyone round Jeff's in an hour, he said it's fine, apparently the missus is otherwise engaged. And dress up real nice, coz it's time to hit Karaoke Kops in St Johns. And let me tell ya, in Karaoke Kops, fun is the law, according to the website. Bonus beer for the best rendition of "You Outta Know","Summer of 69", or "Sk8ter Boi".
And then, I don't care how far the drive is, we are all going for eats at the D1ldo Dory Grill in New Harbour. Unless Google Maps are having me on, this is a place. I can't think of anywhere better to get my fill, than D1ldo Dory Grill.

That sucks. I hadn't heard about that.

I use Google Photos. I had a scare a while back when they said they were doing away with Picasa, and it took a while to figure out the new layout, but it seems to work with embedding photos so far. Until they decide to change it, I guess. I do pay a small yearly fee for hosting photos, though.

How do you embed from Google Photos?

Wow this little short sub thread is a little weird to me. I used to deal with Photobucket in the professional sense. I don't think this was a case of lets get people hooked and then switch it on them. They have had free ad supported models for over 10 years. I think this change was more a result of ad revenue dropping off, and a new round of investment bringing in people that are trying to help make them a more sustainable business.

That being said I use photobucket and google images currently.

I may just have to look into that option. What kind of fee is involved?
(Although anything under the $40 a month The Bucket is now demanding would qualify as an improvement.)

Right now, I pay $5/year for 20 GB of storage. They gave me some bonus storage for some reason or another so I actually have 36 GB under that plan.
