DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Well, that stinks then. I know he plays volleyball, so maybe there is a shot there?

Going to have to start playing beach soon for that to happen.

Hello Gents. Well I survived another trip overseas for work (yes Dan, I was in Heathrow but only for 4 hours around lunchtime Saturday, so still no good for a DisDads pub meet up).

It looks like this will be my last time leaving home to go overseas. I've been offered and accepted a position with my company based in my hometown. It will be quite a change for me after 20 years of banging around oil rigs and flying overseas for work. It means a pretty significant pay cut, but I felt it was time to make a change for the sake of my family. I think we're all tired of me being away from home so much. Money doesn't buy happiness, as they say. However it does buy trips to see Mickey, so I will have to see how things go before I can take the whole family back to WDW.

Too bad about the Games. It would have been a nice trip our west for you guys. Maybe one day he can get into a different sport.

Congrats on the job change; this one will keep you in St John's?

I'll still be in Winnipeg...in the summer....isn't that the place to be in late July / early August - the land of heat and mosquitoes. ;) Actually I'm looking forward to it. Every two years I get to spend about 20 days watching live sports everyday and this year is also the 50th anniversary of the Games.

It looks like DS will spend the first part of the summer with one of the u16 provincial basketball teams and then will play on the u16 provincial volleyball team. It will be busy but I'm sure he'll have fun.

We spent the day today in the gym as his team hosted the regionals for the JV AAA high school boys volleyball tournament. They rolled through the day and will head to provincials as the #1 seed from our regions.

Morning boys from a very hungover London. Had 50 over for my Mum's 70th. I was up at 0530 Saturday morning, and my cousins left at 0430 this morning. Good times. Now the house is all reset, the kids are in the garden and we are officially chillin' out. Leftover party food from Costco for the rest of the day.
Welcome mate, you must be looking forward to the GF....
Hey wait, why aren't we all there doing this for real right now :confused3
::yes::, me & norm are there in July, just sayin'.......how's the wedding stuff buddy? All done?
That's just because she hasn't been dancing with me.
I believe she was thinking about you when she was singing "So this is love"

Good luck in the new job Jeff, it must have been tough to spend all that time away. Shame we couldn't have met up, hopefully someday. Mickey will always be there.
This was his one shot for Canada Games, at least in basketball. He'll be too old the next time the summer version rolls around in 2021. Basketball is U17; he could start playing beach volleyball (u20) or Athletics (u23).
He's a talented boy, I'm sure he'll turn up there in one sport or another. All the best to him

Have a great Sunday all,

:welcome: Kirk. I had a quick look at your TR. You'll definitely fit in here. Have you had a new addition to your family since that trip?

Congrats on the job change; this one will keep you in St John's?
Yes, I'l be in St. John's, at least for a couple years, hopefully longer, since my wife doesn't want to move away from her parents.

We spent the day today in the gym as his team hosted the regionals for the JV AAA high school boys volleyball tournament. They rolled through the day and will head to provincials as the #1 seed from our regions.
Sounds like a job well done. Good luck in the provincials.

Went home to visit my Dad today and this was what I faced for the first part of the drive.
Spring runoff can be rough, hopefully it didn't get too bad. We don't have too much trouble around here because it's so hilly, but there's occasional localized flooding.

Looks like a decent weekend by most. Got a 4 day week this week as we head out Friday for DD graduation weekend events - looking forward to it.
Ok. That's where the old Boardwalk Bakery was and pizza window? Or, is that still on the Boardwalk? It's been awhile since we stayed at out home resort, but we did enjoy getting a pizza to go and eating it outside at the quiet pool. It wasn't the best pizza, but a fun and cheap activity. I'm sure we will check this place out in 2018.
Pizza window and Bakery are still there. I feel better now in not knowing Abracadbar was been there for a bit.

Sounds like you and the family are happy with the change so congrats. I'm sure things will work out great for you.
That sounds awesome! We can do it. Are you paying airfare and hotel? I'll cover the first round. :rotfl:

Cool new avatar, by the way.

What in the heck happened to our Blackhawks?! Live in Nashville area for past 16 years (which makes the Hawks debacle that much harder to take) but born raised in Chicago / western suburbs and remain a loyal Chicago sports fan and food fan. Been a Blackhawks fan since early 70's as a kid.

Another nice result for the young man and sounds like he will be staying out of trouble this summer with that schedule.

Congrats to your Mum and sounds like one heck of a party :drinking1Regarding July, I'm there too just on DCL in the south Caribbean. Wedding stuff is going well with things like final guest count, seating arrangements coming together. Need to finalize the alcohol list / quantity today. Not that there still isn't some bs and drama but we have been with some friends who have had a recent wedding and some who found out 2 weeks ago their DS is getting married July 29th - this year. I guess wedding drama and nonsense is universal and all of us have come to the conclusion of you ain't seen stupid and the true side of some folks until you are doing your kids wedding. We are all good and dealing with the noise with a roll of the eyes and a laugh as "you can't fix stupid".

Prayers to all those affected by the storms, hope everyone stayed safe.

It appears there aren't as many Dads posting here as there was in the past. Did someone embargo the bacon?
Alot of guys went over to facebook, but the true believers are still here. And have no fear the bacon supply is safe and sound

Welcome to the club. Tell us about your clan.
most of us arn't over achievers like Darcy and are too lazy to go reading other post to find anything.

Evening Gents.

Wow, stay safe. Hope your dad is ok.

That would be - lots?

I'll take some photos, we have an ADR for Flying Fish, we'll have a pre-dinner cocktail there. And then I'll swear because I can never work out how to get the photos on the site.

Seconded
"you can't fix stupid".
Man Law?

Evening boys from Sunny London. Day off because some socialist about 50 years ago decided to give all of Europe May 1 off from work, as international workers day or something. Went and saw Beauty and the Beast, wasn't bad at all. Started the board planner for July...
Have a good Monday chaps.

Yep! Actually one of the good things about this place is you are responsible to get the booze bought and brought in which is way less expensive and you can keep it simple than if the event place did it. Since we all like to see everyone's ADRs here's the wedding booze list for about 115 folks:
Chardonnay 24 bottles
Riesling 18 bottles
Red Blend 24 bottles
Jack 6 bottles
Titos Vodka 6 bottles
Johnnie Walker Black 1 bottle (FIL & BIL)
Makers (1.75L) 4 bottles
Miller Lite bottles 5 cases
Stella 4 cases
Blue Moon 5 cases
Champagne 27 bottles

Just what Europe needs, another paid holiday - my company is Swiss so I can say that

You can say it anyway mate, even I think this one is full of s**t. Not enough for me to go to work though.
Good job on the booze. I'll have a Blue Moon with a MM chaser.

Afternoon guys. Just checking in after a long absence. As posted in another thread, I had to take a hiatus after the last trip. In addition to the usual post-trip blues, I was spending WAY too much time on this forum before the last trip and decided it was time for a break. Getting a little too obsessive is one of my character flaws, but don't tell my wife I admitted to that.

Wow, that's a huge change. Congratulations, Jeff--I hope the increase in family time makes it all worthwhile. I hope the pay cut is manageable for you and the family. Sounds like you all felt the change was necessary, so I hope it's a good one!

It appears there aren't as many Dads posting here as there was in the past. Did someone embargo the bacon?

Never!

Lots of guys seem to have moved on to Facebook or just moved on, period. Still some faithful regulars around here.

@pkondz will have to work on entertaining you!

I look at this and see a drainage project.

Happy Monday. Worked a full day yesterday and put in some more hours today, but should be clear now to Thursday. Tennis with youngest tonight to get her ready for HS match tomorrow. Scheduled an oil change for in the morning. Just more mundane stuff - 2.5 months to Poly.

Well, there could be worse things than spending lot time on this site on the Internet.

‘Morning all…
Welcome to our new member

Thoughts and prayers for all those dealing with the huge changes that life is tossing before you
Just deciding to keep going day to day requires a certain amount of strength, courage and above all else, resilience.

It’s Election Day down here…
Well, more of a primary to determine who will be running in June (unless one of them gets over half of all votes). Doubt it will make the news as no surprises are anticipated. I’ll be certain to go out later this morning to officially support lost causes.

::yes::

I do post in the FB group sometimes, but this feels more like home.

Went and saw Beauty and the Beast, wasn't bad at all. Started the board planner for July...
Nothing wrong with either of those statements. I was unsure about Beauty and the Beast before I saw it, but I thought it was good. I've always kept my planner in a spreadsheet, but the board idea is cool.

In addition to the usual post-trip blues, I was spending WAY too much time on this forum before the last trip and decided it was time for a break.
Too much time here? Nah, then we would have to do stuff like work and chores. Who needs that?

Just more mundane stuff - 2.5 months to Poly.
I guess almost everything is mundane stuff until we get to Disney again.

More voting? Hasn't there been enough of that already?

Happy Tuesday. Oil change this morning in one vehicle and need to get the other in as well. HS tennis this afternoon and weather is perfect right now - low 70s and no wind.

Yeah, I remember when I used to want an exciting life. Now, I'm just happy when Friday gets here and I can enjoy a beer and watch some TV. I did bring this extra work upon myself, though.

?

If I hit the lotto and moved to Golden Oak and went to WDW everyday, would it become mundane? I'm willing to try it though - just need to get that lotto winning thing first. :lmao:

Our Rep took a post in the current administration (so he's now shaming humanity on a national level).
This is to sort out who will be completing his current term in the HoR.
I know how this will go, but I can still dream of a better world.

you did, but it's likely to be good for you in the long run.
I seriously need to find a way to get out among more and divers folk myself.
Just haven't found the right direction yet.
