DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Hey, dads, it's been quite a while since i've posted, but it's been a very very hectic time. Since Thanksgiving of 2015 we've been through the loss of a brother, settling his estate, retirement, the sale of two houses and the acquiring a house in Clermont Florida, less than an hour's back road's drive from the west entrance of WDW. We've been in Florida since August of '16 and are enjoying it very much. The DW and I do apologize to the residents because since we've settled here, Florida experienced two hurricane landfalls after ten quiet years, now a very dry winter and spring with numerous brush fires. I guess it's that New Jersey mojo following along behind like a black cloud. Of significant news however is that I am now on the waitlist for the first opening in one of two job categories at WDW. Hopefully, soon i'll be working part time at either one of the resort marinas or on one of the passenger boats that move between EPCOT and Hollywood studies with the resorts in between. Can't wait. So, glad to be back and hope to see some of you somewhere on the property.

Hello Gents, I'm trying to play catch up after a busy weekend. First, congrats are in order for graduations, anniversaries, volleyball wins, new jobs, and trying to sort out old jobs.

Like I mentioned, my weekend was pretty full at a dance competition. Despite some grumblings I had of the time dedicated to all the rehearsals, the costuming/make up and all, I have to say after it's all said and done, I'm pretty proud. You'll have to indulge me, but I don't often get the chance to boast about wins and the like. Youngest DD was in one class for her age group Friday night (lyrical dance - don't worry, I don't really know what that means either) and came away with a First Place medal. Sunday she was in another group production number with her entire school, kind of an all ages variety class. I had not seen that performance before hand and I was pretty blown away by it. They did a great job and got another First Place win. For those of you who are on my FB, there's a video on my timeline of the group number, if you are so inclined.

Very cool! Welcome back to the boards and hope you get the call soon!

Nice! Congrats to your DD!

Morning Guys.

Beautiful morning up here, too bad I'm in the office. DW decided it's time to look for a new vehicle so I get to head over to see our sales guy today.

Welcome back and sorry for your loss. Sounds like congrats on the retirement and hope you get the call soon Capt Mickey!

Ugh, maybe you got a regular guys but car shopping is always a PIMA - hope your's is better. The DDC boat cruise sounds like a plan - if I can ever get to one.

Happy Tuesday. I think April just keeps on going. It was a full day yesterday with work, HS tennis match, swim banquet, and confirmation practice for my cousin/ godson. I left the home around 7:00 AM and got home around 8:00 PM, spent an hour with family before going to bed. And it continues today with another tennis match, swim practice, and Confirmation Mass. Thankfully, it will be a down week the first of May.

Evening boys from, apparently, a girly wine drinking London. I'll try and beef up this post with manly hairy a$$ed guy stuff.

Eh?

So, you're not buying us drinks?

Course I would. My shout. They may as well leave the bottle. As we are on the naughty step.

That's better. Manly, hairy guy drinks.

Given the distance to campus, we already hear from the young’en only rarely.
The consolation is in knowing that if we did our job right, they’ll be just fine without us.

What a rotten reward for a job well done. :rotfl2:

I think that is a terrific reward. I left out on my own at age 18. I wasn't as prepared as I should have been, and I want my children to be.

Still a pain that you have to empty that tank quite so often.

The 25th one was just me and my better.
That was about the most relaxed stay at Da’ World I’ve ever had.

DCL is mighty pricy (truly excellent, but lord - the cost). We may not be able to do that again for quite some time. I might consider one of the shorter outings unless there’s some type of incentive being tossed into the mix, but generally I suspect that we’ll be sailing on other lines for any of our cursing expeditions in the foreseeable future.
)

I like the drive, just not the time or physical toll it takes on me. I enjoy driving though.

DW did a Carnival Cruise with a bunch of her friends and had a great time. I may try that one as it is cheaper than Carnival. I just have to figure out where to leave my children or wait until they are out of the house. The latter would be another 5-9 years, depending on college.

Glad to see you back and what a roller coaster over the past 1.5 years. Good luck at the (hopefully) new job.

Congrats to your dd and to you, proud dad.

‘Morning all…

You’ve had a whole lot going on. Good that things are settling down a mite.
But then you toss in a chance to work at just about the coolest job in the parks…
That would be awesome. May they call you in and may it be soon.

Congrats to her and to the group.
All the time and investment we give our young’ens can tend to wear us down, but then we see the results and suddenly it’s all worth it.

Happens every time

Beautiful morning up here, too bad I'm in the office.
It’s a common malady.
Too common

DW decided it's time to look for a new vehicle so I get to head over to see our sales guy today.
We just went through that a couple weeks ago.
First time in years that I had to take on a vehicle payment but we ran across a shockingly good deal so it’s not near as painful and it might have been.

May y’all find the right deal as well.

Evening boys from a burly, hairy, back slapping London. Did you see the (insert your local team here) game? I think they could go all the way this year.
Enough man talk. Back to posting.

Hey, dads, it's been quite a while since i've posted, but it's been a very very hectic time
Welcome home. Good luck with the job, and it sounds like you've been through the wringer in the last couple of years.
DCL is mighty pricy (truly excellent, but lord - the cost). We may not be able to do that again for quite some time
Never done cruise, don't really see it my future. Is it more expensive than a Dis trip?
I know where my best interests lie…
::yes::
And if not, maybe some of here will get lucky and schedule trips at the same time at some point.
We could make our own luck.......
it's that New Jersey mojo following along behind like a black cloud.
But that black cloud has QUALITY pizza.
DW decided it's time to look for a new vehicle so I get to head over to see our sales guy today.
Good luck with the wheels mate. Hope you get want you want.

Have a fabulous evening chaps.

You should be mate. Way to go to the DD, and good job fella.

Another sports weekend up here. DS and his JV volleyball team were competing in a 20 team varsity tournament and finished 7-3 in their pool.

Like with Norm's daughter, playing above your age class can be tough. Looked like they did well to me.

A bit behind but think I got the gist of the past few days. Had a nice trip this weekend to the kids school to help them pack up, DD for good from school and to get the boy to understand what goes in storage unit and what comes home. Also did a punch of campus pics with DD and her roommate to celebrate the graduation accomplishment as we figured we would beat the crowds the actual weekend of graduation.

Congratulations to her. Good job raising a successful young woman. it is nice to see them sprout their wings and fly solo. Sad too.

DCL is costly but a great cruise. Next time I sail I think I will be looking at Royal Caribbean.

‘Morning all…
Beautiful day down here.
Not that it does me any good form inside the office, but still…

Never done cruise, don't really see it my future. Is it more expensive than a Dis trip?
That Depends…
If your comparing it to an extended stay at the Polly or the Grand (without DVC) well then yeah, it’s somewhat comparable.

Otherwise…

Here’s the thing with DCL. They are on average close to twice as expensive as the nearly all other lines offering similar itineraries. Why? Well there is the premium that Disney places both on its name and the unique theming and experiences that they can offer. But it’s is also related to them being the only cruise line that does not subsidize part of their costs through gambling. They ditched the idea of casinos on their ships in favor of highly themed and staffed kid’s spaces and extra amenities. So the money that they estimate you would otherwise have dropped at the Black Jack table (and on extra booze which they do sell but don’t push) gets added directly onto the fare instead.

They are very good, but they expect you to hand over the buck for all that goodness

Thinking precisely the same thing…
RC is the most consistent moderately priced line in regards of quality and experience after DCL, and for about half the price per itinerary. And since I don’t gamble, it will stay half the price.

Now I just need to come up with the time and bucks to make it happen.

Well, only a few more days until that down week

We've done 5 cruises since 2010, 3 with Carnival, 1 with Disney and 1 with NCL. The Disney cruise was great but, as others have said, very expensive. Three times with Carnival and we've never been had a bad trip. NCL - not a fan. We have looked at RC but have always found a similar itinerary with Carnival at a better price. We may try RC someday but not in a hurry to give it a go.

Happy Wednesday. Wednesdays are great days since it is tennis day. Also, HS coach said that if the child has a lesson with a pro, then they can skip HS practice. She has extended that to me as well, so I get to play with dd before I play doubles with the guys. Three hours of tennis makes me happy and in need of drugs the following morning. :lmao:

Still a busy time here. Confirmation for our 8th graders at the church last night. Apparently, I have another new job task - church photographer - to go along with that website management. Oh well, at least that's something I can do.

Never done cruise, don't really see it my future. Is it more expensive than a Dis trip?

::yes::.

Not if it's being charged by the pound of food I would eat. :lmao:

Good analysis. Thanks for the insight.

Morning Guys.

Wet, rainy day up here in the north. Another day in the office and hopefully an update on my dad.

Have a good one all.

Mornin' dads.
Another week moves on. My DW found out her grandmother passed away Monday so it has been depressing in the house this week. Oldest DD took the news pretty hard.

On a brighter note I had my "interviews" for my new 3rd job this week and will be getting the job. I put that in quotes because the interview consisted mostly in following around the coordinator and drinking beer. I will be officiating for an adult social sports club. I am starting with Softball and soccer but will pick up flag football and either volleyball or basketball once I get going. Yeah another 20+ hours a week gone.

Anyone watching the draft tonight?

Sorry to heat about you DW's grandmother. Never an easy thing to deal with.

Good luck on the officiate thing; adult rec sports are never competitive. :rotfl2:

Hello gents and a very happy Friday Eve!

Sorry if I missed before, but hope nothing major with your Dad - positive thoughts your way.

Sorry about DW Grandmother, always tough when the family elders pass - prayers to you and the family.

Happy Thursday. It was a fun 3 hours of tennis last night, and a bit more difficult to get moving this AM. Last day on campus this week, with my 2nd job review this afternoon. It's not really a surprise, as my probationary period already ended. Hopefully, we can reach an understanding on future job duties. I'll miss another HS tennis match tonight though, where youngest dd should have a win.

Prayers for your DW, her grandmother, and your oldest dd.

Congrats on the 3rd job. I'm still hoping to win the lotto and not have any job. Officiating adult league rec sports with alcohol involved sounds fun. Any chance the disdads can purchase a life insurance policy on you with us as the beneficiary? :lmao:
