DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Good morning all. It's Ash Wednesday today, so you might see some with an ashes cross on their forehead.

We survived bad storms last night - strong winds and more hail. Went to Mass this morning and the flag pole had blown over.

Do you do Easter eggs? That's a huge thing over here. The promo aisle in the supermarket tends to go Christmas, fitness for new year, then Easter. In April you can't move in our house for chocolate eggs that relatives have bought the kids...

Yes, but still depends on region. I had Easter egg hunts as a kid, and there was candy inside a plastic eggs. We used to hide them that way for our kids, and we still do at the inlaws. The adults play along with one egg with $20 inside.

For DW, it was a way bigger deal. There is a local candy store that does chocolate eggs with your choice of several fillings. And, they write the person's name on top. Plus, her family also did the hard boiled and color dyed eggs along with the plastic eggs.

Chocolate Easter eggs tend to be found in nooks and crannies around our place Easter morning...

I don't hide them much around the house anymore, but I do enjoy eating them. ::yes::

Morning fellas. Just gonna throw it out there that I have only 3 more days until I'm back at WDW. If I can just get this huge report finished, I'll be good to go. With all my work travels and other things keeping me busy, I've yet to really plan on what I'm packing. Just going to throw some short and t-shirts and the suitcase and call it done!

We don't do pancakes, hate them. But I have known people who hide coins in birthday cakes.

I thought the pancakes was a Shrove Tuesday religious thing; emptying the larder for the beginning of Lent.

You don't do pancakes? Then what do you put all that maple syrup on?

I think those storms are headed my way. It's supposed to get nasty here this evening.

Is your family adopting? We do the plastic eggs hunts as well for the kiddos, but all we get in them is stickers. Nothing for the adults.

Top O the Mornin Dads! 10 more days! Really serious weather around here today - tornado hit in our town this morning. Headed off to work this morning to turn around and get home as the you know what hit the fan. We and the house are all o.k. for now as we are getting heavy storms til mid day here.
Yes, that's why pancake day is a thing, but is it only done in Canada? I don't think I've ever discussed it with anyone from other countries.
Never heard of it but DS would love it.
Really looking forward to that WDW vacation in another month.
Seems to be a contagious thought process around here

Color hard boiled eggs every year along with chocolate eggs, bunnies and peeps.

Good to hear no damage for you but did you have to send that stuff south?

February still ain't over?
Welcome to March, buddy. We're here all month.
As being platinum status on DCL we get to book at the earliest window, 120 day, which is today so I was up at 11:00 my time to get some of the real hard stuff and just barely got what we wanted at Castaway Cay.
What is that? Is that like Club level?

One of the dads threw up a photo on FB of the hail, it looked vicious. Good to hear you are all ok.

Stay safe Mike, all the boys are counting on you, Darcy and Mal to live out our Disney dreams over the next few weeks. And then it's over to Norm.
Never heard of it but DS would love it.
I cannot believe IHOP/Hallmark are not all over this. This from the country that invented 'Secretary's day". My old PA gave me a proper roasting for not recognising that one.

Have a rootin' tootin' evening chaps. London out.

Managed to get a good bit of work done today at the 2nd job. Need to finish a few more things done to get on top of things. I'll feel more confident then.

3 days is great. I still have 30. Have a great trip. As for the eggs, sure, c'mon down if you can find the place.

10 days is better than 30. Glad to hear you all and the house are ok. If I had the power to control storms, then I'd be on the X-men? :lmao:

Thanks. Not sure about any food damage, but no leaks.

As for the month, can you call it and I go straight to WDW without passing go?

Another proud Dad moment tonight. The basketball teams had their annual awards banquet tonight and DS was recognized with the Mike Fitzgerald Award. The award is named in honour of a former student of LHHS who passed away due to cancer. It is given to a player who demonstrates Mike's philosophy of " Just Love It". Traditionally the winner is someone who shows commitment to basketball and his teammates.

Here he is with his co-captain who won the MVP award.

Easter eggs are a big thing. We do the egg hunt in the morning after the "Easter bunny" has hidden the eggs overnight (mostly for DD9, DD16 is not as into now of course). Usually it's a mixture of foil-wrapped chocolate eggs and plastic eggs with candies inside. All the stores go nuts with Easter stuff. Right after Christmas the Valentine's junk comes out and then early February it gets mixed with Easter stuff.

Glad to hear that you are both weathering the storms OK. Hope there's not too much damage else where.

Just gonna throw it out there that I have only 3 more days until I'm back at WDW.
Sounds good Mal, you'll have to keep us posted on all your adventures. Trying to live vicariously through all you guys!

Not sure about any food damage
I have food damage in the belly area. Although it could also be a result of rum & coke.

Top O the Mornin Dads & Happy Friday Eve!
What is that? Is that like Club level?
Kinda, like an airline status though once you reach it you have it for life, requires 10 DCL sailings. Gets you priority bookings, special check-in, book port adventures at first window of 120 days (first timer can't til 60 days), free dinner at adult only restaurant Palo.
Glad to hear you're all OK, stay safe.

Thanks guys, no major injuries but damage in several areas mostly roofs and trees blown off or down - total of 3 touched down. Video of tornado about 5 drive minutes from home

That's extremely awesome! Congrats proud Pappa and to Declan!
I'd love to mate. This would mean I'd be in NY....
But Mike, Mal & Darcy would have missed their vacation. Bit harsh.
That ain't gonna happen
Cheeky trip alert, booked this morning to hit DLP tomorrow night. Sequoia Lodge for 2 nights until Sunday.
Contagious for sure - nice to be close enough to book like that. Does DLP have an annual pass or do you have to purchase park tickets as you go? Enjoy your trip!

This one was demanded by SWMBO, which is weird as she was saying yesterday we have a nice quiet weekend. This will be our 5th trip on AP since May which is a total of about 20 days, so they will at the end have cost us about £12 per day of park. If I renew before the end of May they are throwing in 6 months free, which would take us through till 2019. It also gave us 60% off the hotel, so 2 nights at Sequoia was £190 with breakfast and a 2 x fastpass from the hotel for all 4 of us, so not too shabby. The weather is supposed to be rubbish, but rather be rained on Disney than anywhere else. Like I've said before, its not WDW but gives us enough of a Disney fix to get us through till summer. There are quite a few ride closures this week, but we'll live.

Nice! What is this "free" that you speak of? I've never heard of this in Disney......

Very nice. Have a blast!

Damage can be fixed, glad there were no major injuries!

Another morning mostly shot so decided to delay starting anything until after lunch. I took DD to the physician because she sprained her ankle and they insisted on x-rays. Sprained as I suspected so an additional expense for no reason. I did get her something for the cold that has been hanging on for three weeks so not a complete waste. School is closing tomorrow as well and joining the surrounding schools. There seems to be less illness around here when winter sucks. This year was the warmest on record, though the electric bill doesn't show it, and more schools have closed for longer periods of time for illness then before.

Put maple syrup on???? Why would you do something like that?

View attachment 223011

The best use of pure maple syrup is on vanilla ice cream made with vanilla beans, cream, sugar and milk.

Glad you are all OK. Things in the county here and surrounding counties got hit but no loss of life. We lost shingles on the house we rent from the employer and blew the back wall out of one of my high tunnels, but nothing serious.

Managed to get a good bit of work done today at the 2nd job. Need to finish a few more things done to get on top of things. I'll feel more confident then.

Glad it is going well for you.

Happy Thursday. Not much new going on for me. In this case, boring is kinda nice. We have a school "professional day" tomorrow, which means no school for dds. If only I had a DLP close by.....

ip!

At the price you paid for all those Disney cruises, they should give you a freebie. I hope to get one one of those cruises eventually.

That's an enjoyable way to yield to the Mrs demands.

My doctor has insisted on a chest x-ray as a part of my annual physical now for over a decade. I continue to tell him my insurance doesn't cover it and i don't do the x-ray. But, when it comes to the kids, we still do those extra things. I'm not sure why.

Anyway, I hope she recovers quickly.
