Morning Men,

DS got the news last night he wasn't selected for the U15 provincial basketball team but he was selected for the U16 regional team. He seems ok with it but then again we haven't seen the team list for the U15 team. As long as he's happy and getting the chance to improve all is good. He is still in for a busy few months of ball - 4 tournaments, including 1 somewhere in New England plus a week long training camp with 3 other provinces. I see a bit of travel in our future.

Have a good one everyone.

Good morning everyone. Oldest received the sacrament of confirmation last night. I posted a picture on FB and will try to remember to put one over here later as well. Today, it is tennis and swim.

Just finished registering DD and I for the 5K on marathon weekend. Looks like our first DDCC for me! Woo-hoo! Official training starts tonight. We did a quick 1.5 mile jog over the weekend and averaged a little over 11 minute miles at DD pace. The goal is to get it down to 8-9 minutes. Wish us luck. Hopefully the knee won't give too much trouble and we can do the 10K in 2018.:thumbsup2 That is the max allowed by the surgeon that did the operation.
.

Jealous of the DDCC. I'm hoping I can make one next decade. I'd like to be able to run in the 5K, but by then, it would even be less likely.

Good Day DisDads!
I saw the email for runDisney Marathon. I did NOT register.
I'm thinking MAAAAYBE registering for the Goofy in 2018. MAYBE.

Also, I ran and finished the Star Wars Dark Side Half Marathon, thus completing the Kessel Run challenge. Which is Hilarious, and awesome.
It was worth it for the Millennium Falcon shaped medal.
(Sorry for posting a week late.)
]

That is a cool medal. We enjoyed the Star Wars Fireworks at DHS and would have enjoyed them more from BWV if they would synchronize the music.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Well DS received a couple of awards last night including TSA (Technology Student Association) Student of the Year as well as Student of the Year for Architectural and Engineering Design - his smile is more of a laugh as I was mocking DW while she was taking this pic :rotfl:

Good to see DS is handling it well and enjoy the travel - I miss those days (I know I sound like a broken record but I do miss those days).

Congrats to DD.

Morning Guys. Nothing new. Didn't hit the lottery so back in the office today.

Bummer on not making the team he wanted. Hopefully the team he made will work out. We do always want to see who made it, don't we?

New England you say? Sounds like a possible opportunity to get together, have some food/drink and say hello. Let me know when you find out where/when. We can try to come see him play.

Congrats to DD! Saw the FB pic, they grow up way too fast.

For the DDCC, you kind of have to just do it. I have talked about it the last 2 years and there are always reasons to say no. This time I included DD and a goal to get in shape and everyone is on board. I say get those girls of yours committed and come join us.

Been busy last few days so haven't been around.
Missed some of the chit chat.
And no, thank you, I'm not going back to see what I missed!

Bummer about the first but good for the second.
What grade is he in? 10? He'll have more chances for other provincial teams won't he?
If so, keep on working and maybe next year.

Curious. Do you do Confirmation, Communion and then reconciliation down there? Or do you flip the last two?

Well DS received a couple of awards last night including TSA (Technology Student Association) Student of the Year as well as Student of the Year for Architectural and Engineering Design

Congratulations to your DS.

I want to go, but just can't justify the $ without taking the family. And, not taking the children out of school. Once school is over, or college, or we win the lotto, then we will go.

S.

Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation is the order for kids or adults.

For kids, they add Reconciliation before Eucharist. And, while the minimum is once a year, the kids go again a few days before Confirmation.

Mother Nature, thou art a foul beast! Snowed again last night (second time in a week) up here in northeast Canada (and no, it's not "normal" although not entirely unheard of...:)). Had about 10cm (2.5 inches). Luckily turned to rain now and currently 8C (46F) so hopefully the snow doesn't stay around long. At this point, I'd be happy with spring, let alone summer.

Congratulations to DS. Maybe not the team he wanted, but at least he's still involved in something. Very important for teens these days to stay focused.

Congrats on the confirmation for your DD (do you congratulate for that?). I do remember mine along time ago but I don't remember if it was a big deal or not; but then I was raised Anglican not Catholic.

He seemed OK with it. One of his best friends will be on the same team and his cousin will be on one of the other regional teams.

I'll let you know about the tournament, I cheering for the Boston area myself.

I was wondering if anyone would figure out that first post.

DS is just finishing grade 9 and he will still be in the mix for the Canada Games team. He will also be playing with older kids so that ca usually help with the development.

Thanks. The travel is fun to complain about but I wouldn't miss it for the world.

Congrats to your DS, couple of nice awards.

Newfoundland??

I think this is the team he thought he would make for most of the tryouts. We knew he was on the bubble for the provincial team but this should help with his development.

Yes, Newfoundland. St. John's to be exact. We had 49cm last week. It broke decades old records for the latest and most snowfall in April. And a couple weeks ago I was out raking my lawn in a t-shirt...

I saw the reports of that storm last week, crazy.

What the July record? Any icebergs yet?

I want to go, but just can't justify the $ without taking the family. And, not taking the children out of school. Once school is over, or college, or we win the lotto, then we will go.

Yeah, the missing school part was the big discussion for DD. It's only 3 days and it's still 8th grade so nothing on the permanent transcript.:thumbsup2 Kidding. We'll make sure to get the work and keep up. Planning to fly out Wednesday morning and back on Sunday. A few days of fun, some exercise and rumor has it a lot of dads hang around that weekend:confused3.

The $$ was the easy part as we have points on both the Disney Visa and Southwest Airlines accounts that should pay for the hotel and flights. We have 3 park days on old non-expiring tickets from years ago so even that is paid for already. Just some food and stuff if we decide. I get it though. Cheaper to join the gym.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

DD has D1 states this weekend. Team finished 2nd place last year, but not as strong. Lost one of our better players to the team that won it all last year. DD is much improved, but we are small. She is just over 5'8" and after that our tallest is probably 5'6". It will be tough, but got a decent draw in the preliminary group so should come out of the pool play. We were actually hoping to play the girls from our town team that play in a different program, but they either did not qualify or are playing a lower division.

Thanks. I think it's a big deal, and she could have rejected it. Any time to receive God's grace is good thing.

Afternoon all. Reserved the car to drive up and the room in S. Orange. Graduation is a little over two weeks away.

All registered for the 5K. Now to start booking ressie's for the weekend. I'll look into the Boardwalk and see what they have. We stayed at the Yacht Club last August and love that area. Yes, the training for DD is part of the draw. She does a lot of sport specific working out, but not a lot of running/stamina work. This provides the motivation and hopefully the positive habits and will keep it up after the event.

Too bad my kid isn't doing the 5K, she could run with your daughter. Any of the Epcot resorts would be a good place to hang your hat. If you do end up at the BW, we can have a libation at the Bel Vue lounge. Or if you are somewhere else, we can still do it.

Also, I ran and finished the Star Wars Dark Side Half Marathon, thus completing the Kessel Run challenge. Which is Hilarious, and awesome.

Cool medals, congrats.

Big congrats to your son. Must got his smarts from his mom.

Wow. When I lived in NY, I had to go to Maine to conduct a training. There was still snow on the ground and it was almost June! No way am I living up north again.

Congrats on the confirmation for your DD (do you congratulate for that?). I do remember mine along time ago but I don't remember if it was a big deal or not; but then I was raised Anglican not Catholic.

Confirmation was a big deal when I was a kid. We went to the Knights of Columbus and had a party. Nothing like a bunch of goofy teen Catholic boys discovering girls were cute and did not have cooties. Barb Melfi in her confirmation dress, melted my heart.

Nice pic, congrats to your daughter. Oh and get a shotgun, you are going to need it.

Congratulations to your DS.

Congrats to him. Watch out for the mocking payback.

Great work!

Thank you guys, pretty proud of him. I know we have all had an issue or two with the kids school, teachers, coaches, etc. However, a couple of teachers have been very instrumental in the young man DS is becoming and have really helped develop what he is really passionate about. So for that, a very big thanks to them :thumbsup2

Ugh! That would suck. First no teams from Canada in the NHL playoffs :stir:and snow in April?

They grow up too dang fast! Ooops, said that already. Congrats on the graduation and hopeful increase in disposable income or increased in savings.
