DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
'Morning all...
Should be mild and relatively pleasant 'round here this week (especially considering it's early March).
Dang shame I got'a spend it working.

Club basketball starts today so that means a road trip for 2 games this afternoon, DS was ready to play last night. This one is a short season, done by the first weekend in April.
That is a fairly short season, but all practice and experience is valuable.
May they compete hard and learn from the ups and downs.

Absolutely gorgeous weather here today, 70's and sunny with clouds rolling in later today (sorry guys).
No apologies necessary...
That's basically the same forecast for nearly 700 miles in all directions from where you are.

Which is probably not a good thing in the long run.

Configured all the FP+s yesterday, and wow, that was a lot of work.
Haven't been in the parks since the bracelets became the law of the land. I'll have to figure it out how all that stuff works some time, but it's probably not going to be for a while yet. As I've noted here, we had to cancel our April plans and our boy just let us know that he's probably going to be staying at school for the summer sessions so we're likely not headed anywhere this summer either.

Youngest dd will have a new MS basketball coach next year (the assistant this year) and he wanted to get an early start on basketball. So, he recruited most of the next year's 7th graders for a travel team. I don't give them much chance of success, but it will be more team time and playing time for her. This overlaps a soccer season though, and I wanted her to try a 10 week tennis session. That's a lot of competing overlaps and $.
That is a lot of busy...
But then again, busy kids don't have time to get into much trouble.
May all the scheduling and $s fall into place.

I'm sure there is a point where Disney will price themselves out of the market, but it doesn't seem like it.
We'll they've just about left us behind.
When we do go back it will almost certainly be offsite to help off set some of the costs
(and it will be the first time that's occurred since 93)

So many people are living on debt though, which doesn't seem to bother them.
It would bug the heck out of me...
I have loans only for the house and tuition.
Everything else gets payed for flat out, on doesn't get bought.

One thing we do though is buy everything that allows it with out Dis credit card. That then immediately gets paid down to zero the day before the billing cycle ends so it's the same as using cash except that we get the points for all the purchases. I even track it as if it were a bank account and apply the spending as debits against liquid assets so that we always know exactly what the cash flow is at all times. Paying it off that way prevents us from carrying any interest charges as well. I haven't paid one cent in interest on that card in several years and have built up a pretty decent backlog of bucks that will come in handy probably next summer (if life doesn't get in the way of the long range plan, that is.)

Hi all, Newb here. My name is Chris, I'm in Milton, FL which is just outside of Pensacola. I have been married for almost eight years and have a five year old son....we are all Disney nuts. We just got back from a long weekend last week and are planning our next trip for 11/5 - 11/11 at All Star Sports. Look forward to hearing from everyone.

Another Chris joining the club.
:welcome:

Grab a beer from the fridge and some bacon off the not-a-salid-bar over in the corner of the club house there and drag a lawn chair over here by the camp fire and join in on the conversation. We're glad to have you here.

Thank you. We are about a six hour drive, so not a bad trip at all...
An interesting illustration of just how spread out Fla actually is.
I live in the SC/NC boarder and the drive down to D'World is only 2 hours longer for us than it is for y'all

The Disney Commando takes a break? That sounds like a heresy. :lmao:
:rotfl2:

Morning Men!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but it's Monday again.
Now why did you go and let that happen?

That is a fairly short season, but all practice and experience is valuable.
May they compete hard and learn from the ups and downs.

Short club season for the 16U and 18U age groups, all their time is taken up by high school ball. The younger age groups run from October to Feb/March.

Now why did you go and let that happen?

Sorry, it just sort of snuck up on me.

Happy Monday. Only 34 more days to vacation.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but it's Monday again.

[=]

Perhaps better than waking up and finding it is Tuesday. That would be one heck of an Oscar's party. :lmao:

n?

Yes, I have to agree with you on the Disney pricing structure. We haven't done a 5 day park trip in a while. And, we are going to the beach Fall Break as opposed to WDW.

On the credit card thing, yes, paid off at end of month. I used to do same, charge everything and pay off at end of month. But, I found that I spent more with credit card than with cash.

Maybe I should have done them all in AM and then tried to get more. Anyone have a good strategy now?

I think it's best to have them on hand for the PM when crowds are at their peak. You can still do standby in the mornings for a lot of the rides. Rope Drop will always work as a ride strategy.

I'm sure there is a point where Disney will price themselves out of the market, but it doesn't seem like it.

It sure feels like they're flirting with the line. The middle class has really taken it on the chin over the last several years.

As I've noted here, we had to cancel our April plans and our boy just let us know that he's probably going to be staying at school for the summer sessions so we're likely not headed anywhere this summer either.

Dang. No chance for a getaway with the missus, or does summer session eat those funds up?

I have loans only for the house and tuition.

Good plan. We operate the same way. I just hate that it feels like doing things the right way, not taking on debt, etc. doesn't seem to ever get us ahead.

Hey DisDad's...it's been a while. Good to see some names I recognize still. Happy late Monday...we get an extra day this year and get it as a Monday. How nice!

Here's a happy story. At the beginning of the year, DW wanted to lose weight and joined the Planet Fitness $10 a month. I was as encouraging as I could be, as my main exercise was beer curls. She asked me to join her for workouts, which she would have to do the $20 a month plan. Again, supportive husband, so she paid the extra fee and I had to go with her. Then, something magical happened. While I'm not allowed to take pictures there, I get to enjoy all the yoga pants.

True. You have a little one as well. I keep seeing the light after my oldest gets out of HS. But, that light may be on the end of the college tuition train.

Lol. I use to work for a guy who would go to aerobic classes back in the early 90s. Oh did her take abuse. We brought him in pink head bands, shorty shorts, pink sneakers. He did it all for the same reason..... The view!! Lol

Morning Guys,

DS got some good news last night, he made the JV Volleyball team at his high school. We knew he had the talent and the skill but given the problems he had with two of the coaches last fall we fully expected them to cut him out of spite. I'm not happy he will be exposed to these coaches again but he wants to keep playing so that's the important part. As a long time volleyball coach, it make me really happy to see him still playing the game.

Don't know the full effect of summer sessions yet but obviously it won't be gratis. We are considering trying to do something as a couple maybe in September. That time frame should offer the best rates, but we'll see what the funds look like when we get there.

I look at all the folks around me and all I can figure is that they must be in debt up to their eyeballs.
I guess the plan is that if they won't be here when the bill comes due, then what's it matter.
It's a bit like the huge problem with the prodigal son parable...
If being good nets you nothing but scorn and loss, then it's unquestionably foolish to do so.

But then again, it's obvious that I'm unquestionably foolish, so I'll be loosing the battle either way.

I think you'll be able to just miss being run down by that train if you can stick to your plan. The one thing that might wreck it would be if your young'ens really want to go to a school that's not part of the plan...

and you find yourself agreeing that it would be best for them (that's when it will get expensive)

Welcome back to the club house.

If calendars were random, the odds of an extra weekend day were better that of picking up an extra Monday.
What a time to hit a long shot.

The view would be a bonus.
The exercise part of it might still be the deciding factor though.

like most situations... a mix of good and bad.
The good seems to be out weighing the bad here though.

Congrats to him and may that continue.

Ron's plan is to get to the park early and most rides are walk on. He get's FP's for between 10 and noon i think. Takes a break from about noon until 4ish, then comes back to the park and get another FP ect. Stays late when the rides are walk on again.

Sounds about the same as what I do. Except I look for new FPs as soon as I've used up my last regular one.

Congrats to DS and hoping it all works out for him with the coaches.

Happy Tuesday. Youngest dd has a dentist appt, so I took a sick day from work to take her there. Then, I went and played tennis.

I wish I had figured that out sooner.

Congrats to Declan. I hope the coaching situation gets better.

Well, not to get religious here, but there is a proverb about leaving an inheritance to your children's children. People lose their homes when they have all that debt. Then, I don't think people realize the option is that they may get out of debt one day if they work long enough. I want to work 10 more years and then not work again. Or, people think Medicaid Nursing Home Care will be good for them.

As for college, I continue to them - if they want my $ help, then they have to listen to all my help, which includes selecting affordable schools.

Great job, Declan. My son's baseball coach is constantly yelling at him. Hustle! Focus! Clean your room or you're riding the bench next game! Ah, the benefits of coaching your own kid.

Good evening everyone ! Haven't been able to spend much time lately on here. Work is busy, busy, busy. We usually slow down now till a/c season but it's not happening. Can't complain, there are a lot of people who wish they had a job so I'm not complaining at all, and the money is good.
A new ride is in our very near future. Just waiting for it to co,e off the car carrier. Yes, traded in the Benz. A beautiful car, how can it now be but it just wasn't big enough for what we use it for. I thought we could manage and it just didn't work out. I would have loved to get the next size bigger but..... I'm not paying more for a car then I paid for the house.lol
I had it for four years, made 10 trips to the world...... And it killed my back on everyone of them lol To comfortable and I'm just getting old.lol

OK, we bust on CJ for the life of CJ but how many days off do you get from that government gig?

Crazy busy at work and then today I have been dealing with the fact that some @#$!@@# stole our credit card number. I think we caught it at less than $100 spent but I've spent over 3 hours on hold with various people trying to get things cancelled, fraud alerts etc and it isn't done yet, but I don't have the patience to do more tonight. I've got some piano wire I would love to make the thief intimately acquainted with.

Another UK win and Florida loss. Good luck next time. CJ, at least you have the nice weather and topless beaches.

Cadillac Escalade might be big and comfortable enough for you. With all the options, it may be more expensive than my house. :lmao:

OK, we bust on CJ for the life of CJ but how many days off do you get from that government gig?

And the new vehicle would be?

That's state university gig to you, where we triple the bureaucracy.

All Federal Holidays
Spring Break
Fall Break
2 Weeks Christmas
3 days Thanksgiving

I also get 2 vacation days and 1 sick day a month. I've accumulated about 3 months of leave between the 2 accounts as it rolls over from year to year.

I did receive a 10 page glossy, color photo book in the mail with a plan for campus revitalization underway. Then, an all out email saying how budgets are being cut. :furious:
