DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Hi all, Newb here. My name is Chris, I'm in Milton, FL which is just outside of Pensacola. I have been married for almost eight years and have a five year old son....we are all Disney nuts. We just got back from a long weekend last week and are planning our next trip for 11/5 - 11/11 at All Star Sports. Look forward to hearing from everyone.

Welcome to the club @mydadlife , from another recently numbered Dis Dad! I see you live a bit closer to the World than me. It must be fun having the option to go with such a short travel time.

Configured all the FP+s yesterday, and wow, that was a lot of work. I'm going with the same strategy of the legacy FP system, we used to get FPs all day and then hoard them to the PM when the time didn't expire. Maybe I should have done them all in AM and then tried to get more. Anyone have a good strategy now?
My last trip (first one with FP+) I mixed the days. Some I did AM FP+ and tried for 4th one. Some days I rope dropped one park and hopped to another with PM FP+. I'm not sure which is best. I did find that for the most part there wasn't much left worth a FP+ by the time I was looking for a 4th. I think I like rope drop/PM FP+ better, but I guess it depends on the park.

Ron's plan is to get to the park early and most rides are walk on. He get's FP's for between 10 and noon i think. Takes a break from about noon until 4ish, then comes back to the park and get another FP ect. Stays late when the rides are walk on again.

Afternoon gents. Had a nice night last night getting together with the "soccer parents". The core group of 5 families that traveled together, raised money together and toured the southeast including two tournaments at Disney - we still get together about 4 or 5 times a year. Today is hanging right now watching the Blackhawks and then post game heading outside to enjoy a cigar and the great weather we are having today. Enjoy whatever it is you are doing today.

Safe travels and good luck with the games.

That's cool that you have a core group of soccer families. I have my group of guys that play tennis together, and we all have kids around the same age. But, we don't get together too much outside tennis/ outdoor park time.

Welcome. Dues are payable in dole whips, bacon, beer, or cake. You mail 800+ to me and then I mail to everyone else. We've done all the All Star Resorts now, so have a great trip. You all going to do MVMCP?

That's what I've heard on about the 4th FP. We don't Park Hop though. We did the PH on our honeymoon, and we both felt like we just lost so much time walking to/from transportation and to other theme parks.

Same here, let us know what you think of it Norm.

Will do.

The Disney Commando takes a break? That sounds like a heresy. :lmao:

Thanks for the welcome. I'll work on those dues....:rolleyes1Most likely we will go to MVMCP, never been so it will be something new.

Happy Sunday,

Absolutely gorgeous weather here today, 70's and sunny with clouds rolling in later today (sorry guys). Thought about breaking out the BBQ but decided to head out for Mexican for lunch/dinner.

Enjoy the road trip and hope he does well.

Like you, the last couple of years I was Disney heavy for vacations. Decided to build up some DVC points so the next time I get an AP I can take maximum advantage of the pass. Besides, the next year or so some great things are opening.

I go up 95 until I hit the NJ Turnpike/Garden State Parkway, how far away is that from you and Carl? Yea, the time has flown by. It seems like yesterday I was at her freshman orientation for high school and the Principal told them to enjoy the moment because the four years will go by fast. That was almost eight years ago. I just ordered her graduation photos. Been an interesting eight years.
I hear ya, Briana just turned 23. Ohhh your about an hour or so from me. You are going to get real close to Carl coming up 95 in the Philly area.

Enjoy the road trip and hope he does well.

Good luck to him. Youngest dd will have a new MS basketball coach next year (the assistant this year) and he wanted to get an early start on basketball. So, he recruited most of the next year's 7th graders for a travel team. I don't give them much chance of success, but it will be more team time and playing time for her. This overlaps a soccer season though, and I wanted her to try a 10 week tennis session. That's a lot of competing overlaps and $.

Safe travels and good luck with the games.

Thanks Guys. DS played well in their two losses today. Their team is pretty much their JV team plus 3 guys from the varsity team that are still eligible for this age group. The team they played was made up of the best kids from 4 high schools.

It was difficult to make around dining options. Maybe next year I'll do FP first and then try to take whatever dining options are left.

I'm sure there is a point where Disney will price themselves out of the market, but it doesn't seem like it. I won't do APs until we move to Florida (my 10 year plan) as I just don't have the money budgeted for multiple trips. So many people are living on debt though, which doesn't seem to bother them.

We have a Disney credit card. Which only gets used in Disney and not that much. ( I like cash ) We don't go again till its paid. I take car loans, interest rates are next to nothing it's not worth taking the money out of investments.
When we were younger, we had more loans, today in our old age, we just don't need as much.lol We always lived in a small home, cheap to heat, lower taxes. We could get a bigger house but to us, it's just a place to live. We figure if it don't fit in the modular home in Florida or in the casket, we don't need it.lol
It's also amazing how much money you have when you kids start paying there own bills.lol
I have a friend who likes credit cards..... Oh he goes on some nice trips, drives nice cars and I know where he works, he don't make that much to support all that. His wife also works in a place that doesn't support the life style they live.
But, on the other hand I have a costumer who parents worked there entire life's. She was a school teacher and he was a lineman for a power company. Both made a good living for the times. Never went anywhere, drove junk cars and saved every penny they could. They retired and a few years later one had a stroke, ended up in assisted living. A fEw years later, his mother ended up in a retirement assisted living type place. The home blew through $600,000, there life's savings in no time at all. They are both gone now but there son, a costumer of mine and a friend ( who is now 63 and retired) told me he was going to make sure the last three checks he writes before he dies are going to bounce. Lol bought a big motor home, lives in Florida from October till April the past two years. He sent me a text on Thursday and just bought a house in Arcadia Florida. We are getting ready to get things out of our name. It's great as long as your health holds up when you get older but man, I'm not giving all my money to an assisted living place, I can piss my money away just as good as they can and have fun doing it. Lol

We've never done a MVMCP, and it is on the list one day. We have done close to 10 MNSSHP and really enjoyed those.

I'm with you Dave. Invest money while still enjoying it. We did the Dave Ramsey stuff and budget everything. We each kept one credit card to use for gas, Disney, & online shopping for security. Everything else is cash. I'm still hoping to have a home in FL & KY.

Hey Randall,

Can you add me to the Birthday List for July 27th.
