DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Damn but that sounds good. Especially dessert. My Christmastime Beer Stash has grown to comical proportions. Tempted to grab another bottle of Steamworks Blitzen, a BC craft brewery Belgian Tripple style. It went down nice and smoothly. :thumbsup2

I am running out to get my Christmas brews tonight. I just got my beer goblets from Amazon yesterday (woohoo!).
I got to have Anderson Valley's Winter Solstice and Great Lakes Christmas Ale this weekend. I haven't actually decided on what I'm going to purchase.A tried and true, albeit not as sexy, Sam Adams Winter Lager may be in order.

Snicker LOL
I think we need to stop encouraging Tim. Just sayin'.

Morning guys. Last full day of work this week :)
Ditto. I am mainly catching up on overdue e-mails and overdue promises that are on the verge of EMPTY promises.

:thumbsup2 Sounds yummy.

We shall be having:

- Bacon wrapped Tenderloin
- Prosciutto and cheese stuffed Turkey Breast
- Lasagna
- Glazed Carrots
- Twice mashed potatoes (Mom's recipe)
- Squash
and whatever everyone else brings.

For apps we have assorted dips and cheese and crackers.
:thumbsup2 VERY nice!
Those are some serious entrees! I was actually contemplating a carrot side dish. Your menu may have just sold me! I may have to go to Lowe's today and but a new double oven. LOL.

Morning all. First Christmas today.

Thanks, but there is no hope in who-ville. My family is like a scene from Christmas vacation, with all the crazy and none of the humor. DW believes Christmas should be with her parents (divorced, so that makes 2), grandparents, cousins, aunts, etc. These people are not a part of our lives, except for FB. I think Christmas should be time enjoyed with your spouse and children, which we get for a couple of hours before dashing to the next out-law Christmas. We even have to schedule Mass around everyone else's schedule.

Sounds like a great menu. Enjoy.

My collection or booze keeps disappearing and I keep replacing. I need to look investigate that.

How are all the children enjoying Christmas? Is Santa still visiting?

Manning's time may be done. He has never been a great bad weather QB, and I imagine age can't help. And to think, Manning took Denver two games further than Tebow. :lmao:
I feel your pain, Norm. You don't seem like the type of guy that needs affirmation, but know that the nuclear family along with a loving bunch of grandparents and aunts\uncles has long been an illusion. :lmao:

My family by itself is dysfunctional (divorced parents, haven't talked to mom in years. My dad remarried when I was 17 and I had a great relationship with my stepmom but following my marriage, it's now an estranged relationship.) and I have 3 half-siblings with the closest 21 years younger.) and combined with my wife's, it's akin to everything being coated in gasoline and everyone has their own lit match, just ready to drop it on a whim.
DW's parents are divorced but everyone gets along. MIL is at times psychotic but I lover her to pieces. but she is a barrel full of drama. FIL and his wife are absolutely awesome. SIL is finalizing a divorce. Just alot of potential drama.

I like you (great minds) believe Christmas is for the spouse\kids. We used to go to mass with my DWs parents on Christmas day and it was always rushing and kids couldn't relax and enjoy themselves. We now do Christmas eve mass at our Church. We then visit the in-laws after Chruch. DWs mom and gram join us on Christmas day and her Dad\stepmom stop over in the evening to have coffee\dessert with everyone. There's plenty of time around the holidays to do visits. Given that I don't really see my family, except for my older brother, I insist on Christmas at my house. My insistence is based on the fact that we don't see my family at the holidays, like ever. I have the trump card.

I watched the game last night and not sure what to think of either Cinci or Denver. If we go by the "experts" we should just skip to the AFC Championship and watch Brady own Manning again. :happytv:

‘Morning all…
Got a bit of a break at work so I thought I’d check in.

I think that I have our Christmas Dinner menu put together.
  • Spiral ham coated with brown sugar
  • Crunchy Onion Baked Potatoes (new recipe)
  • Bacon Laden green beans (made these for Thanksgiving)
  • Hawaiian sweet rolls

For apps, we'll have a buffalo dip pickles and olives and shrimp cocktail.
Dessert will be more Christmas cookies than can possibly be consumed. My dessert will be my rum barrel aged Pumpking. Yum.

Sounds like a mighty fine spread.
We’re doing the hosting this year for both families and that includes the main entrées and desserts. Sides will vary depending on what everyone else brings along but the main courses will go like this:

Christmas Day will be with DW’s family.
- Chateaubriand for the main course
- DW’s infamous “Bad Mac” (a ridiculously cheesy Mac-n-cheese casserole)
Dessert’s will include but not necessarily be limited to:
- Creme Brulee
- Date Bars
- Molasses Cookies (and I cannot explain just how good these things are)
And
- extra helpings of the “Bad Mac” ;)

“Boxing Day” is with my family and we like to go Mexicali
- Homemade Pork Carnitas
- all the fixins (tortillas, sautéed peppers and onions, guacamole, various cheeses, ect…)
- assorted IPAs, ales, porters and ciders
- plus anything leftover from the day before and another round of deserts.

Should be some fine eating.

Nicely put. :thumbsup2 The day was a bust, as I started out okay but my temperament fell off a cliff and I was a snarly angry guy all day, it took me by surprise how quick I turned. Once I left work though, I was okay, so it seems to be stress that is setting me off. :confused3 Since then though I've felt remarkably at peace with the whole thing, the first time since I think. But I could be so stressed and wound up from work I just don't have time to grieve :rotfl2:

I’ve had a good long while now to experience that dulling of the ache. The day you had rings very familiar notes from my Christmas past files. It will get better but it will take time. May a bit of calm find you these next few days sir.

It's Tuesday, do you know where your DisDads are?:lmao::lmao:

Stuck at work :headache:
But I get tomorrow off… I think… we’ll see…

These last few weeks have been very stressful. The holidays are not good memories for these kids and they are all on edge. It feels like we are in constant confrontations between yelling, fighting, crying, etc.

I'm not complaining, we knew what we signed up for. The kids start therapy soon, now that they can speak and comprehend English well enough. I know this will help them deal better with their feelings.

You’ve taken on a mighty task there. I’ve got faith that y’all can pull it off though.
May you build many new memories and may they overwhelm that troubled past.

Morning everybody. I'm jealous of you guys who have already started your vacation. I'll be in through tomorrow and then done for the year.

What he said…
Wish I had more time as well. Actually, I’ve got the time I just can’t use it. :sad2:
Do get a couple days this week but then it’s back to the grind Monday. Yuck…

Was supposed to take tomorrow off, but now it looks like I may need to be here, at least for the morning.:headache::mad::mad: Shipment was supposed to be here this morning to supply a customer and it did not arrive. Still trying to find it.

:thumbsup2 VERY nice!

I'm with you on needing the extra oven. We only have the one, but the turkey will be cooked tomorrow evening and warmed on Christmas day, the Lasagna will go in first thing in the morning and the beef right after for a hopeful reunion on the table around 1PM.

Enjoy and Merry Christmas to you and yours.

:lmao::rotfl2::lmao: I remember Chrismaka, but forget the show it was on.

It's interesting. Santa is definitely not a big deal in Poland and our bio kids know Santa is the spirit of giving. The foster parents told the kids about Santa last year, so they keep expecting this guy to appear.

I pray that this Christmas will be better than any of you could have imagined and that it brings your newly increased family even closer together.

Actually, I pray that for all of the Dis Dads. :thumbsup2

My family by itself is dysfunctional

I think that there's a bit of that in every family. Pretty sure that my wife's side got a triple dose. :sad2:

Hey, there's an idea! Seconded.:thumbsup2

We put the fun in dysfunctional!

Are they doing more of this? I'll def record if they are. I'm pretty excited about the collaboration for the Great Movie Ride.

Yes, according to Ben Mankewicz(sp) the host, they will be doing such evenings a few times a year.

Hey guys,

A lot of chatter to catch up on and will try to do it later.

Long day today. I was up at 5 am to take the kid to get an MRI at 7:00. They screwed up the appointment so we had to wait a bit. Plus I had to drive her to Boca (50 or so miles north) to see her specialist at 10:00. Long wait there and then the drive back to Miami. The traffic was awful coming back. The good news is everything came back normal and she is good to go.

Hope everyone is having a good Christmas Eve Eve.

Home from first Christmas - survived. 2nd Christmas balked. Crazy Aunt was inside but wouldn't answer the door. So, we left the Christmas Candy on the doorknob. DW has the dds for haircuts, so I get some time to recover.

I think we need to stop encouraging Tim. Just sayin'.

Why? He posts such great pictures.

Yeah, I'm not longing for the yonder days on tv. I just still can't figure out why DW wants to spend time with these people, who live within 30 miles, but we don't see them 360 days a year? To me, if they are that important and in that close proximity, wouldn't you want to see them more often? If not, then why spend time with them at all?

Prayers all is well.

I kinda figured it would be stressful with all the changes, but didn't think about the holidays being bad memories. Prayers for all of you.

Let's see, 2 extra games, $20M. Yup. That's about $10M per game and still no Superbowl title. He made a few good throws last night, but I saw some pretty ugly ducks flying around.

They could have had me for a mere $1M per game, I probably could have retired, they would have saved $, and still had the same result. :lmao:

I listened to an interview last week and whoever it was said that Pete Carroll was actually a good Xs & Os coach, but he doesn't get credit because of all his craziness. I'm still hoping for Patriots and Seahawks SB.

Sorry for the dark side of things right now. Hopefeully you can help turn this all around for them. Prayers friend!

I can understand your frustration w\ the in-laws. Your logic is solid too. I suspect that it makes your wife feel better or at least eases unnecessary feelings of guilt. In the words of Beverly D' Angelo in Christmas vacation, "I don't know what to say, except it's Christmas and we're all in misery."

Your taste in photography apparently leaves something to be desired!

That's great news CJ. Glad PP is OK. That's a lot of driving in one day.

:lmao: that's hilarious.

So, did she make an effort to pretend she wasn't there or was it like, oh it's them don't answer the door.

Yeah, gotta be up early in the AM but poured a beer and watching Disney's Christmas Carol before bed to unwind.

Actually I think I made major inroads to getting better, I think the worst might even be over. It's the stress right now which I think is making it rough. When you were stressed, you called Dad to make it better. No peace till 6:30 Christmas Eve :lmao:

:
Hey Brent. Hang in there, only a week or so left of the crazy holiday season.

Judging by last year, crowds will be 6/7 mid to late August. Kind of going for a drop off, but unlikely based on the reports I have heard.

:
Crowds in '13 were acceptable to me. A for the new FP+ stuff...well it feels like every trip there are changes to FP and we quickly learn to adapt. Won't beat using both the + and traditional like last trip, but we always learn to adapt and thrive.

I am running out to get my Christmas brews tonight. I just got my beer goblets from Amazon yesterday (woohoo!).

:

I need new goblets. Just having a Shepard's Neame's Christmas Ale. This is a list of beers I've got stashed away:

2 Goose Island Pere Jacques
2 Golden Carolous Cuvee Van De Kaiser
Unibroue17
Unibroue La Resolution
2 Eggenberg Sammiclaus
Samuel Smith's Winter Welcome Ale
Great Lakes (Toronto Micro) Winter Ale
Black Oak Nutcraker Porter
Muskoka Double Chocolate Cranberry Stout
Chocolate Manifesto triple chocolate stout
Hogtown's Aporkalypse Now Bacon Oatmeal Stout
Black Oak Epiphany #1 Cherrywood aged Belgian style Quad
Great Lakes Beard of Zeus
Bush Pilots's Norseman (Eisbock aged in Armagnac barrels-14.5%!)
St Bernardus Christmas Ale
Midtfyns Brughus Chili Triple(from Denmark) (Belgian triple with chili peppers)
Arctic Air strong beer from Finland
Toronto's Amsterdam's Vicar's Vice Olde Ale
Fuller's Vintage Ale (2014 edition...will likely let this age a while)
Also against better judgement I picked up the just released (up here)Rogue Voodoo Pretzel Raspberry Chocolate Ale
Also have a bottle of a Belgian Style winter spice ale a co-worker who home brews gave me to sample.

If budget dictates I'd like to grab some more Steamworks Blitzen, another Belgian style triple out of BC that I had and really liked.
