DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Good morning to you fine gentleman. ( you too Fed ).
Stopping by to say hello, hello. Lol
Keeping up with most of you on fb anymore. Can't believe this thread is still here, I think I posted to this one before my May trip.
Heading down again next month. We will be arriving the 15th and coming home the 26th staying in a 1 bedroom at Boardwalk. If anyone wants to meet up, just let me know. It's just Tammy and I on this one, she turned 50 this year and we are going down to celebrate her birthday. Lol. Looking for some good senior discounts.
Time for my nap.... Have a nice Sunday.

My turn.
Drove to work this a.m., check engine light comes on.
Crap. (And yes, I did think of Penny's car from Big Bang Theory)
Car's running good, though, so maybe just a sensor.
Stop to grab a paper and.... cloud of steam pours out of engine.
Uh... probably not good.
Looks like I lost coolant. Hoping it's just a hose.

Hi Dave! Sounds like a fun trip. Love our adult only trips. I'm sure you will too!

Morning Guys, thanks for the wishes for Declan and CJ there will be no more playing keeper (at least this year)

Good to hear from you Dave. Thought I might randomly run into you back in April but we didn't stop for gas in Drums this time. :lmao:

Morning all…
Stuck at work on a Sunday morning, here.
Ran across an error condition that requires management input so I’m having to maintain a holding pattern until I hear back from them. Seems like a good time to check back in over here.

Hope all y’all are having a good weekend so far and may it just get better form here.

I'll trade you some heat for our rain?
Hardly had the bike out at all this summer it seems.

I like the idea but I believe it would be best to make the deal with someone on the west coast right now.

They wanted to start later in the year, so the shift was made.

Also good luck to him in the competition and his Junior year. Two more tuition payments left for me.

I passed the luck on to the boy. We got him back up there and it’s like seeing a different person.
He settles in almost immediately.

And I was just curious as to why S.H. wanted to start later in the year.
I figured there was some particular situation that prompted them to make the shift.

Chico's Bail Bonds can be your friend.

And a fine community partner when it comes to sponsoring youth sports as well.

I may have a problem... every day at work I put on my headphones and queue up "Disney's California Adventure - Golden State - Soarin' Over California ~ Queue Music" on d-cot and loop it all day long. My dreams are starting to use the music in the background. Anyone see a problem with this?? :music:

I read that a couple of times but fail to see where any potential problem that might exist here.

And it’s good to hear from you sir.
Hope all is well up that way.

That's kinda morbid. I gave up on my dream retirement of living in Golden Oak. But, I'm keeping hope alive for an age 50 retirement, house near Cocoa Beach, and time to enjoy the beach and WDW.

You are my hero Norm, and I suspect your plan will work better than mine.

50?... done missed that landmark. Don’t have any kind of pension; IRAs and 401Ks… got them but so much damage got done in the crash that once I can start taking distributions, they may not replace enough of the needed income, so continued work will be mandatory and it’s probable not going to be the kind of thing where I can just go take a job that I might enjoy rather than one that pays the requirements. It’s a bit morbid - yes – but I’m a bit of a pessimist, so there’s a chance that things may work better than I expect. That happens from time to time (just not often enough to make me an optimist).

I may just have to make an executive decision and shoot for a competition in OH next summer, Lord willing. There are a few up that way that the parents could make it to. Mom never really got into much getting dragged around with her boyfriend who became dad, but he was in a Junior and Senior Corps for many years until kids and other responsibilities came along.

There’s a competition that has been held in Massillon for the past few years. It usually in early August so the Corps will have most of their shows worked out and in good shape as well.

Safe travels and good luck to the young fella on year 3. Consider while at home sit on the porch, patio or deck and play the DCL play list on d-cot. Not the real thing but it does help a bit.

It was a successful load in and he should already be hard at work this morning.

D-Cot and Porch time does sound like a good idea.
That may need doing.

Car fixed. It took about 10 minutes. I'm not smart enough to know what he said, but it sounded minor and with that quick time frame, it didn't sound like much. Enjoyed some nice pizza and beer tonite after a long week. After driving the Camry 150 miles a day, riding in the Corvette to get the tumbler, it felt like I was driving a tank. If I have the money to buy a toy, then I would go with a Jeep.

Good to hear that at least that problem was a small one. I think you may need to confiscate the Corvette myself, but a Jeep would be entertaining.

So long as its acquisition doesn’t throw that retirement we’re expecting to hear about off schedule.

Morning guys,

quick post from our beautiful cottage in Cavendish PEI. Made a side trip on the way to get DS's finger checked. The cast came off, the wire came out and a splint was put on. He was also given clearance to start playing soccer again. Not sure who was happier, him or his coach.
Very good news. May there not be any other events that require healing to arise in his future.
If you not sure who’s happier, than it’s probably the coach.

Beautiful day down here but it will reach 100+ feels like though. Alligators did not get the boyfriend and they made it safely back from the Glades. Today is beach day. Maybe a stray shark will wander by and shake his hand. Either that or the sun may melt him. I plan on doing absolutely nothing today except shopping for tomorrow's dinner.

Haven’t heard anything about shark attacks or solar death-rays on the news this morning.
You’re gonn’a need a new plan (but that dinner sounds like a good start).

11 days out. Kids find out tomorrow am. Treasure hunt is all set up, magic bands at the end. Hopefully they enjoy it...

That should be a blast.
We did that once, but our boy was too “old” by then to be excited or show surprise.
(someone might have seen, y’ know)

ZURF! Good to hear from you.
Congrats to Tammy on her twenty-fifth twenty-fifth Birthday.
Hope y’all have a great trip down to Da’ World.

Ok, you can go back to sleep now.

Looks like I lost coolant. Hoping it's just a hose.

A small bit of electrical tape will hide that annoying light.
May it just be a hose (as opposed to - say - as water pump).
No sense in have really expensive auto problems, here.

Drove it (slowly, carefully) over to get some coolant.
(Dang cars now are so sensitive, you can't just add water... then again, if you flush it, it won't hurt... anyway...)
Bought the coolant, started to add it... stopped since it was just pouring out the bottom of the car.

Hey! Anyone wanna buy a slightly used 2006 Toyota?
As is. No refunds. Free donut with purchase.

Afternoon guys,

Unfortunately Rob, no sharks or solar death rays. They did see a Manatee at the beach (rare at that location this time of year). Could be hazardous if he was a head of lettuce.

The chicken is brining overnight waiting to get a beer can shoved up his butt

I always brine a turkey but never a chicken. Saw Bobby Flay recently talk about beer can chicken and he said brine the chicken, so who am I to argue.

There is no truth that yesterday the fowl in the cooler was this

We have a roving flock of Peacocks in the neighborhood. A women a couple of blocks away feeds them and they are multiplying. Five juvenile males have decided to explore our part of the neighborhood. Loud buggers early in the morning. Only in South Florida.

Starting the fire in a couple of hours but not much to do until then.

Good morning to you fine gentleman. ( you too Fed ).

Yea, they are growing up. Mine rarely needs me anymore although sometimes I am still indispensable.

AT first I thought that was a picture of the condition the cooler came back from the beach in.

I always brine a turkey but never a chicken. Saw Bobby Flay recently talk about beer can chicken and he said brine the chicken, so who am I to argue.

Huh. Ditto. Never thought of it for a chicken.
Then again, I've never BBQd one. Always either in the oven (Coq au vin style) or spactchcocked in a pan squashed under some bricks.

There is no truth that yesterday the fowl in the cooler was this

It is a beautiful Sunday here outside. Inside, my teen dd is having some type of hormonal possession. Good thing the Aztek/ Tumbler is fixed as i have an easy way to exit and sleep. :scared1: :lmao:

Hey Dave. Good to see you around these parts. Try not to complain about your own senior driving.

You are my hero Norm, and I suspect your plan will work better than mine.

Good to hear that at least that problem was a small one. I think you may need to confiscate the Corvette myself, but a Jeep would be entertaining.
.

Not sure I've ever been referred to as anyone's hero, so I'm not quite sure how to respond to that, other than thank you. By most analytics, I probably wouldn't be considered very successful as I don't make a lot of money, can't advance with my employer, have a 1500 sq foot house, an old vehicle with repairs, am overweight, and a knee injury that needs surgery. Still, I feel more blessed than I have in my entire life.

Hey! Anyone wanna buy a slightly used 2006 Toyota?

Wow, free donut! My thought process on the new transmission was that while it was an expensive repair, it still cost less than a newer vehicle. I had that 1997 Camry where the water pump went out and the head cracked. I still wonder if I should have spent the money on the repairs as opposed to the junk sale.

Unfortunately it was not the remnants of the BF.

Love beer can chicken. Slow cooked with mesquite chips. Good eating.

Not sure about the neighborhood but they are getting to be a nuisance.

What do you use for a brine CJ?

Store bought. William Sonoma has a brine ingredients in a jar I buy at Thanksgiving, lasts a long time and is pretty good. Salt, sugar, spices and citrus peels. Just add water and ice.

Just back from weekend of moving the girl in. Had a nice afternoon & evening just the four of us in Chattanooga before working backsides off this morning getting her moved in and apartment put together.

For those not on FB, Carl is back in the hospital with blood clots in his lungs and legs. Serious stuff and he could use your thoughts and prayers.

I got the information from Steve Wiley, and if I get any updates, I will let you guys know here. You know Carl and he would not want us to make a big deal of it, even though it is.

Hey Stranger, I see that you have given up Zerfonics!

Hope you have a great trip and happy BDay to your better half as well. As the resident gloom and doom guy, I have to bring up the subject of the "Happy 50th Colonoscopy". If Tammy hasn't had one done, she is at the age when they are recommended. It saved my life.

Best of luck with that. The only thing worse than car repairs is having to buy a car.

...I passed the luck on to the boy. We got him back up there and it’s like seeing a different person.

50?... done missed that landmark. Glad to hear the boy is doing well. Mine is just entering that mouthy teen stage and DD is still to follow.

I don't look at it as pessimism, but realism. When I tell that to SWMBO she just rolls her eyes. A friend of hers who is a big CS Lewis fan refers to me as Puddleglum

It is a beautiful Sunday here outside. Inside, my teen dd is having some type of hormonal possession. Good thing the Aztek/ Tumbler is fixed as i have an easy way to exit and sleep. :scared1: :lmao:.

You have my sympathy sir. I'm hoping DD holds off on all that nonsense until SWMBO is through menopause but I figure at best I have two years.

Just back from weekend of moving the girl in. Had a nice afternoon & evening just the four of us in Chattanooga before working backsides off this morning getting her moved in and apartment put together..

Glad the move in went well.

Thanks for the update. He's on the list.

'Morning all...
Too early on a Monday to be up.
(or it would be if I had any viable say in the decision.)

Hey! Anyone wanna buy a slightly used 2006 Toyota?
As is. No refunds. Free donut with purchase.

That would be two years newer than my “newest” vehicle, so it would depend on the asking price.
The donut is a mighty fine bit of incentive though.

Unfortunately Rob, no sharks or solar death rays. They did see a Manatee at the beach (rare at that location this time of year). Could be hazardous if he was a head of lettuce.

Cool sighting.
So is the BF any smarter than a head of lettuce?
He could still qualify.

Yea, they are growing up. Mine rarely needs me anymore although sometimes I am still indispensable.

Usually those times involve monetary transfers.

I can apply nearly all of those negatives to myself…
but there ain’t no way I’ll be retiring in the near.
You’ve played the game a bit better that I thus far.

I'd be lying if I didn't say that I might have been looking at car listings a few minutes ago... :rolleyes2

Might you have seen anything interesting?

Just back from weekend of moving the girl in. Had a nice afternoon & evening just the four of us in Chattanooga before working backsides off this morning getting her moved in and apartment put together.

Congrats on the successful mission.
Is she a senior now?

For those not on FB, Carl is back in the hospital with blood clots in his lungs and legs. Serious stuff and he could use your thoughts and prayers.

Understood.
Thanks for the heads up.

I don't look at it as pessimism, but realism. When I tell that to SWMBO she just rolls her eyes.

I use the same basic argument.
And with all arguments with spouses…
generally receive the same basic eye roll.

Monday morning. Only one more to go until my "weekend".
Still.... it's a Monday.

For those not on FB, Carl is back in the hospital with blood clots in his lungs and legs. Serious stuff and he could use your thoughts and prayers.

That sounds not good at all. Thoughts going his way...

Ugh.... Sorry to hear about this - good luck and hopefully just a hose.

Hopefully, I'll know more later today.

Best of luck with that. The only thing worse than car repairs is having to buy a car.

I'd like to combine the relatively low cost of a repair with the confidence of a new car.
Lemme know if anyone figures out how to do that.

That would be two years newer than my “newest” vehicle, so it would depend on the asking price.
The donut is a mighty fine bit of incentive though.

I figured the donut would do the trick.

Might you have seen anything interesting?

Oh, absolutely!
But the DW said no to selling the house, a kidney and the first born to get what I really wanted.
She has shoes, why can't I have a Ferrari?

Good morning to you fine gentleman. ( you too Fed ).

Good to hear from you, Dave.

Uh... probably not good.
Looks like I lost coolant. Hoping it's just a hose.

Well, that sucks. Still, it's Canada. Doesn't the air serve as coolant most of the year?

Stuck at work on a Sunday morning, here.

That's just wrong in so many ways.

Hey! Anyone wanna buy a slightly used 2006 Toyota?

Ha! No way I'm falling for that one.

As is. No refunds. Free donut with purchase.

Hmmm...a donut, you say?:scratchin

Praying for him.

Don't you hate double standards?
