I wanted it do go north. lol. But if it’s going south, hopefully it’s more than 35 miles south. The strong winds are 35 miles out from the eye at this point. It’s still weakening and the eye is falling apart.

It didn’t. We took the northern eye wall head on. We are all safe!!! No property damage at all, just some big tree limbs and smaller branches. Not much rain, only a few inches. During the worst part it was only wind. We lost power. The worst was we also lost cell service. The storm took out our cell tower. There was no contact with the outside world. Around 6:30am, I drove about eight miles just to get a signal. We are now at our daughters in Clermont Fl. Concrete vault homes in Florida are great to ride out storms but not to live in with no AC. lol.
The mouse called, enough screwing around, get back to work tomorrow!!! lol.
Two days off for shutdown and getting paid doing nothing isn’t happening tomorrow. lol.

It may be a little while. Just in Polk county alone there are close to 230k without power.

Just catching up! Hope everyone is doing well.

Hope everything's well with everyone. While the week started off horribly, it ended quite nicely. I had my annual review a week ago, and it started off with me walking into the office, sitting down and my supervisor asking me, "So where do you see yourself going?" Basically this was my third year in a row where I was given an "Exceeds Expectation" and she was basically telling me that I'm going to have to move on at some point because I've gone just about as far as I can here. I told her about my goal of becoming a medical coder and she totally told me to go for it. She also told our manager, a director level person, and she even thought it was a good idea. So I now no longer have to worry about studying for my coding and upsetting the cart. I have also been told by my supervisor that a vice-president of the healthcare group knows me by name and likes me.....so I think I'm set. So I'm going to start this journey to becoming a medical coder over. I've done it once before and failed.

So CCT mentioned having long commutes. What's the longest commute you've had for a job?

When I first graduated college, I got a job with an engineering firm in Baltimore MD. My wife was teaching in Kennett Square, PA. So we got an apartment in Elkton MD (just across the border from Delaware). I would drive 20 minutes down I-95 to the town of Perryville and then catch the commuter train from there into Baltimore. Took between 1 - 1.5 hours depending on which train I caught, and sometimes the train would break down or there would be a problem with a switch or something and it would be a really long day. Did that for 2 years before I got sick of it.

Just a quick update. Most of my area is all back to normal. The thousands of electric trucks and bus loads of lineman are heading to the coast.
Just catching up on the storm damage, we only got about 2-3 inches of rain total. Wdw World Drive was flooded. They got a lot more rain than we did. We got more wind than they did and they are about 17 miles from me. It’s really amazing how on spot can get ripped apart and a few miles down the road there is nothing.

Hope all are well, especially those down in Florida. All's well here in the land of Cape Cod. I've recently decided that since my DW, DD and DMiL are all going to Ireland next summer, I might try and convince the DW to let me take a 3 night solo trip to Disney. Maybe even let me take the DD. I use to want to take a trip of 7 nights, and would love to do that again, but a 3 day trip would be just fine. I might even try for a 4 night tirp. The problem will be trying to convince the wife to let me do this. The Ireland tip is next year, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to pull it off next year, but I could drop the hint off and see what she thinks of it.

No you don't. I've done that (couch to 5k) and it takes time... but in the end... success!

That's usually when it happens. When we first flew with our DD, I prepacked small baggies with candy and handed them out to the people around us before leaving and told them sorry ahead of time.

Oh no, that’s what I say just about everyday, not what I overheard. lol. I don’t really overhear anything anymore, I tune it all out.

Still, the things you hear. The things I use to hear on the train heading into Boston were hysterical.

Ooohhh it’s gonna get a little breezy around here in the next few days. Not calling for too much rain. Of course we don’t get storm surge, too far inland.
I’ve been off the last two days, I’m scheduled to go back tomorrow at 2:45. My guess, just a guess, no inside info, I have no idea what they are going to do, they usually make these decisions when a storm is “x” miles away giving everyone who is leaving, leave and arrive at their destination safely. I’m guessing late tomorrow afternoon, early evening.
This is not Disneys first rodeo, they know exactly how to handle these things. The hardest part is keeping guest and cps calm. They come from all over the world and all they know or have seen about a hurricane is what they seen on tv and what you see on tv is live from the beach. You are no where near the beach. Your resort won’t blow over, they are built to withstand 150 mph winds plus. 95 percent of what you see is a rainy, breezy event. Those heavy winds are only in a very small area around the one o clock position of the eye. When the storms make landfall, they lose their strength quickly.
Stay indoors, don’t go outside and you will be fine. No need to buy three weeks of water, three weeks of food, your water supply won’t get contaminated with salt water.
You never see Jim Cantori live from the Walt Disney World complex. lol.

There were confirmed tornados, three of them in the Bartow area, which in ten miles southeast of me. They happened before the eye made land fall. Kinda made sense. The warnings started going off around 3pm and the northeast corner of the eye hit around 9pm. Local news said we had sustained winds of 93 mph in our area.
Our house is concrete block with stucco so you really don’t know what’s going on outside unless you look out the windows, than you can hear the wind blowing. I’ll see if I can post a short video I took from inside the house during the worst of it

Glad to hear that y'all are good. Getting hit by the north side of an east-bound storm ain't fun, but it's way better then being just south of the eye. Tornados, however, don't follow rules, so it's good you didn't see any of that nonsense.

There are still folks up this way digging out from Helene. My young'en for one. They live in a basement apartment of a house up on one of the NC mountains south of Ashville. The house took several trees to the roof, that wrecked the center of the structure and proceeded to flood the basement. On the upside, they weren't living down in one of the valleys and everyone in the house is fine. The gal who owns the place is stuck living in one corner of her home, though. The basement is unlivable, but thanks to having renter's insurance, the boys at least have a spot in a 1-star motel for another week or so. Having gotten what's left of their belongings is in a storage locker and sending their critter down here to live it up at my house fixes a couple more of their issues. Both of them being back at work now solves another major one, so incomes have only taken slight hits thus far. Housing is obviously still in flux, but it's all a work in progress. We'll take our wins where we can get them.

I don't do road races. This old body can't take the stresses, I think. Max I can do is about 10K. I do one or two 5K runs a week, but my achilles says that's more than enough.

Man, that's scary. I saw one town in western NC that was quite literally wiped off the map.

That blue dot is where I’m at. This was right before it really got going. When we were getting tornado warnings, the eye was down below Naples. And why do these things always hit at night? I think the dirty side of the hurricane is the worse part.

This was Helene. We just got the light green of the outer part of the hurricane, which was just some rain, about an inch and about 40 mph winds for about an hour. That was a nasty storm north of me because most of it stayed out over the gulf. I was just amazed how much damage it did so far inland up in North Carolina.
