DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
I will not be there, but I can try and arrange to have others bother/annoy you as needed. :thumbsup2

We're looking at next summer as a possibility. My youngest is 10 now and last time we went to WDW he wasn't tall enough for the big rides. So we feel like we owe him the full experience. I've started applying for a second mortgage now to cover the trip.

This makes me sad. It's going to happen. Someday, it will happen.

The best part about being a civilian, I don’t have to meet anyone and I know the good hiding spots. lol. I can hide where you can’t. lol.
Let me know if that loan goes through or your kidney was any good. lol.

To be fair, you know that going in. Part time people are required to give a minimum of three days a week availability. You pick what days you are available and what time you want to start and shift length. So, if you give them 24/7, your chance are greater than Monday,Tuesday,Wednesday 9am.
That's fair.
It's one reason why I work shift work. The job requires 24/7/365 staffing, so saying you can only work M-F 9-5 would be problematic.
I’m also alcohol trained.
Gonna go out on a limb and say most of the people on this thread are too.

:lmao:
They only draw back is locations are spread out over 40 sq. miles. You have to know where to get the costume you are required to wear and even worse, where you go to clock in. A lot of the college kids do it, I’m too old for that nonsense. lol.
Too old to... find out where those are? Or you're old enough that you don't feel like hunting for that anymore.
You also get all your perks as a pt. person. So if you want to work one day a month for your park passes, that’s perfectly fine. There are people who do that.
Huh! I did not know that.
I’ve been there just shy of three years and I’m in my third role already.
Why?
I mean... have you moved because you're curious to try other things, because there weren't enough hours, because you got tired of where you were, because... ?

second mortgage for disney trip? I didn't know you lived in a $3.2 million mansion. Otherwise, you're gonna need more than a second mortgage.
Good point. Maybe I can just rob a bank, it would take less time.

On a totally separate topic. I read that a good kidney can fetch up to $150,000.
Funny, that's (purely a coincidence, I'm sure) almost the same amount you'd pay for a family of four for lightning lane passes for the week.
 What about a 50-year-old mediocre kidney?

Gonna go out on a limb and say most of the people on this thread are too.
Either trained, or in training!

Good morning. Would you all have a moment to discuss an extended warranty on your vehicle?
No! I'm keeping the lines clear in case somebody in Africa has a large amount of cash that they need my help to move to the US.

That's fair.

The costumes we wear come in three different color stripes. They ask me why I only wear one color? Because it’s the color that’s closest to the door in the costuming building , that’s why.
The first role was okay. Wanted to try something different. Transferred out to another role. Wanted to go full time and the only way your really going to get ft is in the role I’m in now but, unless you have years to wait, you go on the “bench” and interview for all different areas in your line of business. If you are interview and get the job, you have to accept it. If you don’t, you have to wait a year to try again. So you have to be careful what you wish for.
I have to stay where I’m at for six months if I want to transfer to another area as long as I stay in the same line of business. If I want to completely change what I do, change lines of business, I have to wait a year.
I was in my first role 12 months , three weeks.
It’s one of the best things working there, you don’t have to do the same thing if you don’t want.
To me, it’s interesting asking people who have been there for years, what roles have they done. I know a lady who has been there for 54 years. She started before the place was even built and she still comes to work everyday. She was a hostess at the welcoming center.
Every time I see her, she says, David, I think I’m going to retire, I had enough. I hug her, she always says that. She then tells me, my family is all gone, my kids don’t live here anymore, this is my home, my family.
I met her years ago, she had a pin on her name tag I never seen before, it was a 40 year service pin. She now has a 50 year pin.
I worked with a lady in my last role that has been at Epcot since opening day. Worked at the same place, did the same thing since opening day.
Just listening to them tell you how they did things before technology.

I get that. No one wants to have their time wasted.

I understand that.

Happy Saturday!! Just spending time this morning deciding when to spend some vacation time I have built up, yup, been ft for two months and have vacation time built up and will have three floating holidays I’ll have to use before the new year.
Later today, I’m going to bring stuff outside, into the garage. There is some fun brewing in the gulf. As of now the worst of it is supposed to stay off shore and head to the big bend but, never trust a hurricane.

Might I suggest October 21st, November 8th, and December 33rd.

Funny. True story. Later today, I'll be bringing stuff from inside, into the garage.
Been emptying out mom's house and will be having a garage sale this weekend.

This is true. I trusted a hurricane once and it stabbed me with a shiv. I still have the scar.

It's an emotional scar... but it's still there.

Hey @Captain_Oblivious, saw these poles going up on I95 here in Maryland. Do you know what they are?
First of all, I hope you were taking those photos from the passenger seat.

This is a targeting system for our drones to be able to lock on and take out aggressive drivers. Or it's a pole we use to hang monitoring equipment over the road that measures traffic volumes and speeds. It relays real-time information to the Traffic Management Center so they can tell when there's an incident like an accident or a traffic jam they need to respond to, or adjust signal timings on alternate routes, etc.

One of those.

Look at those narrow little lanes all smooshed in there. I don’t miss driving in the northeast.

Drones… I hope it’s drones.

Thank you… I think 🤔

Gotta be drones, for people who have their phone out while driving. LOL

Morning, Gents! Been a while, but, well, life. Now that school's back in session my daughter has her after school things that she goes to, for which I'm helping out as Daddy's Uber. I'm still dealing with my knee pain from back in August. Initially it was thought I didn't tear anything, but my knee still hurts, so I went back to my primary care doctor. I have something called Bursitis, an inflammation of the Bursa sack, a liquid filled sack that protects the MCL from rubbing against the bone. I'm told that that will eventually clear itself with time. I've been popping ibuprofin and Tylenol every 6 hours and have started to feel better with regards to that, but the knee still hurts. I told him that my chiropractor thinks I might have a strained MCL. Well, he, that is my doctor, did some tests specifically for the MCL and now thinks I might have tore something. Not sure what I tore, be it the MCL or the medial meniscus, but an MRI should tell me that, which I'm still waiting on the appointment. At least now something is being done.

Well, have a good day, Gents.
