DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Congratulations! I think I'd get bored sitting around all the time too. Hope this is a great spot for you!
Thank you ! Fortunately, I know a lot of the leaders who work there, I even worked for a few of them already. Our two areas share the same office area and some common areas. It’s really only three small stores I would be at. Still fast paced, just not a huge area and staff of fast paced as before. lol.
Yes, I didn’t do well at it. My biggest problem was I have no hobbies. My hobbies the fourty years was planning trips and real estate in central Florida. That all came to an end. The first few months, it was great! I’m driving back and forth from Pa, moving our stuff down. Searching for a house here in Florida, I was busy. I would go for walks every day, MK resort loop, hanging out in the lobbies. Other days I would walk the Springs. I would go to the parks and I have been coming here since 1973, at least once a year, it would be hard to find a more loyal fan to the brand. But, believe it or not, that gets old.
I started getting depressed. It’s hard to explain, you lose your self worth I guess I can say. The days of the week don’t mean anything. There is no sense of that Monday feeling or the Friday feeling. So, I went back part time. I should have went full time when I had the chance but I wanted to try it first. At the time, they were trying to replace 2/3 of their work force after Covid. But, my journey has been great. I have met, worked with more people from all over the world who have helped me along the way. I always worked for family owned businesses and I can say, it’s a multi billion dollar corporation that really feels like a family owned business. It’s like anything else, there are some who come to work, do the same job everyday for decades, which is great. But, the place is filled with opportunities. If you’re interested in something else, you have to put yourself forward, make yourself known. Nobody is going to come up to you and say, hey I noticed….. if you’re waiting for someone to do that, you fall through the cracks. There are so many people, so many coming and going…. you will get lost in the shuffle. I had no plans of doing this, it just all happened and feel into place.
My wife was going to retire next year and get a part time job. She realizes, why should she give up $$$$$$ this much and go work for $ this much. She for the most part enjoys what she does, works exclusively from home and has an excellent benefit pkg and a company retirement.
So yes, for some, retirement at an early age isn’t all what it’s cracked up to be.
I never felt as meaningless that year than I have ever felt in my life doing anything.
I always think back to what my dad told me when I was a kid, be careful what you wish for, you just may get it.

Nine days left. I start my new full time position next Sunday! Still with the same company, still in the same line of work just about 200 yards away from where I am now!! I can’t wait!! I know it sounds great being off all the time but ….. I am bored to tears sitting around. After several interviews, I haven’t interviewed in over 30 years and a lot has changed lol, I finally landed what I was looking for!! I’m as high as I can go before being management and I’m not looking to go any further.
Oh boy... I don't know how I'd do if I had to interview again... probably... not well.
It’s only going to be in the low one hundreds. Lol
That's good. High one hundreds is just a might uncomfortable.
Happy 5th all.

If you don't remember going to bed, count your fingers to make sure they area still all there.
Meh. A full set of fingers is overrated. I mean... they still sell fireworks to anyone with cash and no sense of personal safety, so...

The interviewing process in 2024 is nothing like the interview process of 1980, says grandpa. lol. It was actually the fourth interview I did, and I thought I did better in the third interview. lol. Yeah well, I’ll take it. The first interview I went into like it was 1980, I’m glad the two who interviewed me were good sports. lol. My wife was getting tired of ironing my pants and a dress shirt. lol.

I have heard that. Hoping I never have to do another one.

Not to put you on the spot, but can you explain that a little?

Well, I would rather not. Not sure how I could do it without going into the process of my employer etc. which I’m not really willing to do. No offense.
If you go on LinkedIn, they explain a little bit how interviews go in today’s job market and there are big differences from company to company. There are just some things I’m not comfortable talking about.
But, I can tell you yes, the lights and music in Epcot stay on all night long. And it’s one of the most coolest things you see when there is absolutely know one around.

No worries. I just wondered how interviews had changed. I'll just Google it if I feel motivated enough.

Day 4 of high-90's (F) temperatures, heat indexes over 100 degrees F. We don't give the inventor of air conditioning proper recognition.

Of course, it's not working in the office currently and I'm sweating at my desk.
Not an issue here... Not a day goes by that I'm not freezing at some point in our office. Middle of winter... middle of summer... doesn't matter. Freezing cold.

And yet... I can put a hoodie on. If it's hot, there's not much you can do, so I'll take cold office over hot any day.

This is brutal. We tried to go for a walk in the evening over the weekend, figuring when the sun was setting it would be more comfortable. But no, leaving the house was like diving headfirst into a sauna.

Getting the same here. AC in the office is not great and I have large windows that get full afternoon sun. My office heats up quickly.

People pay good money to go to a sauna. Think of the savings!!
Did I say a sauna? I meant Satan's air fryer.

Strip down to your boxers. It's the only solution.

Wait...
Are y'all tellin' me that kind of stuff ain't just normal summer weather?
It's absolutely normal summer weather for us East Coast people. But I'm getting older and I feel like that means I should be complaining more.

Windows?? Did you get promoted? I dont spend much time at my "office" but when I do I have to get up and walk around the corner to look at a window over my managers desk. LOL.

Summer? That would imply seasons. We have 9 months of hot and humid, 3 months of oven on broiler, 4 days of beautiful nice weather (never in a row), and about 5 days of brutal wet cold (you know 40-45 degrees, windy and wet).
