Thank you ! Fortunately, I know a lot of the leaders who work there, I even worked for a few of them already. Our two areas share the same office area and some common areas. It’s really only three small stores I would be at. Still fast paced, just not a huge area and staff of fast paced as before. lol.Congratulations! I think I'd get bored sitting around all the time too. Hope this is a great spot for you!
Yes, I didn’t do well at it. My biggest problem was I have no hobbies. My hobbies the fourty years was planning trips and real estate in central Florida. That all came to an end. The first few months, it was great! I’m driving back and forth from Pa, moving our stuff down. Searching for a house here in Florida, I was busy. I would go for walks every day, MK resort loop, hanging out in the lobbies. Other days I would walk the Springs. I would go to the parks and I have been coming here since 1973, at least once a year, it would be hard to find a more loyal fan to the brand. But, believe it or not, that gets old.
I started getting depressed. It’s hard to explain, you lose your self worth I guess I can say. The days of the week don’t mean anything. There is no sense of that Monday feeling or the Friday feeling. So, I went back part time. I should have went full time when I had the chance but I wanted to try it first. At the time, they were trying to replace 2/3 of their work force after Covid. But, my journey has been great. I have met, worked with more people from all over the world who have helped me along the way. I always worked for family owned businesses and I can say, it’s a multi billion dollar corporation that really feels like a family owned business. It’s like anything else, there are some who come to work, do the same job everyday for decades, which is great. But, the place is filled with opportunities. If you’re interested in something else, you have to put yourself forward, make yourself known. Nobody is going to come up to you and say, hey I noticed….. if you’re waiting for someone to do that, you fall through the cracks. There are so many people, so many coming and going…. you will get lost in the shuffle. I had no plans of doing this, it just all happened and feel into place.
My wife was going to retire next year and get a part time job. She realizes, why should she give up $$$$$$ this much and go work for $ this much. She for the most part enjoys what she does, works exclusively from home and has an excellent benefit pkg and a company retirement.
So yes, for some, retirement at an early age isn’t all what it’s cracked up to be.
I never felt as meaningless that year than I have ever felt in my life doing anything.
I always think back to what my dad told me when I was a kid, be careful what you wish for, you just may get it.
