DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
And we're due to get the wrath of Elsa tonight, tomorrow(?), not sure when exactly, but Elsa's due to attack the area definitely by tomorrow. So I'll make sure the boat is tied up at the back door and I've batten down all the hatches. It's the trees that scare me. After having a tree fall through the roof back in '07 I get nervous when there's lots of wind. I'll get through it. I'll just hide under the bed. :teeth:
Stay safe.
I think they should, but what fun would that be? I mean, isn't it more fun to work for it? :confused3

Yeah ok, I didn't believe that one either. :lmao:
Had me worried there for a second...

Morning all.

I was 2 for 4 yesterday. 1 of the 2 Canadians made it through the the Wimbledon semi-finals and England pulled off a semi-final win to move on to play Italy. To all those complaining about the PK call I say go cry in the corner. Sadly the Habs run came to an end last night but losing in the Cup final was somewhat satisfying given everyone said they would lose in the first round and then in the second round and then again in the third round.

Elsa is suppose to blow through here during the night Friday and we are suppose to leave for St, Andrews on Saturday, hopefully it will just be a rain event on this side of the track.

Have a good one all.

Morning boys from a relatively hoarse London, after shouting at the TV for 2 hours last night. Its all getting awfully nervous over here.......

I was worried that was going to go to PKs.

Mornin', Gents! Finally Friday! Wwwwwweeeeeee! Been spending every day after work to get the house ready for our houseguest. The house isn't 100% perfect, but it's a lot better than it's been a while. We've also been able to get my DD to part with some of her stuff, a feat unto itself, let me tell you. That little girl does NOT like to get rid of ANYTHING, so to get her to get rid of things is a major event. We didn't get rid of a lot, but it's a start. We wound up collecting a lot of the things that she didn't play with a lot, placed them in plastic bins, then moved them to the basement. We'll go through all the bins over the next several months. Though I suspect that some of that stuff will disappear a little over a time without anyone knowing.

I'll admit that I'm not much of a sports fan, though I do have teams I like and want them to win, but not much on sitting around watching. Soccer, or as the rest of the world calls it: Football, is something I've thought about getting into. I know American soccer doesn't compare to the rest of the world, but it's still there. So, any reason why I shouldn't get into it? Looking for advice here.

We have cleaners and we tidy up and clean a bit before they get here, which is Apparently this shows I am working class. Upper class wouldn't care what the cleaners had to clean up.

We had cleaners come to the house once a few years ago and we did the same thing. Didn't want them to think we were complete slobs.

I don't know about the States, but the furlough scheme (the government picked up about 60% of the wages) over here has probably kept 500,000 people off the unemployment line, while the economy gets back on its feet, and all of those small companies start to get cashflow back in. It gets switched off this month, so if all those people end up going back and paying taxes, I think it was a good thing to do. Just my tuppence.

Here in the states the government pays unemployment benefits, which, I guess, can be seen as paying for wages, which was extended during the pandemic, and then added more money to it. By adding more money to the unemployment benefits, it's keeping people from going back to work. Restaurants are paying sign on bonuses just to get people to work. It's all a scam to keep people from working, in my opinion. I would rather work than sit around.

Stay safe.

Thanks, but I should be fine, as long as the wind doesn't get too bad. I don't worry while I'm at work because there aren't any trees immediately around the building. Besides, I don't own the building, so I don't have to worry about it. And I'll also park my car in the middle of the parking lot away from any trees. :teeth:

I like to keep people on their toes. :teeth:

Elsa's supposed to be here today, so we'll see.

Morning, gents.

Mornin', Gents! Finally Friday! Wwwwwweeeeeee!
Yay! Only two more days to go before a couple days off!
Been spending every day after work to get the house ready for our houseguest. The house isn't 100% perfect, but it's a lot better than it's been a while
Bet that feels good. :)

Morning guys from a sunny London. All getting a bit tense.....

Norm will tell you yes, Mark will tell you no.
I have no objective view as my team winning or losing would make or break my weekend. Not anymore, as I've grown up. A bit.

I think most sports if you come at them cold are tough to watch.
Imagine a country full of Eagles fans, but supporting different teams, turn it up a notch and that is the culture around football. I understand the whole draw(tie) and the low scoring arguments, but football is outside of North America, pretty much the World's game. I think its a growing up thing. Your football is a different game if you learn to take your eye off the ball, and is an intricate ballet of players, and on many levels is a thing of beauty. But most people over here will say about the stop/start, 50 players, 3 hours etc.
But I would say watch the Premier league or Champions League, that's the pinnacle. Watching American Soccer is like watching Minor League Baseball. You will see some names, but if they were top level they wouldn't be playing there.

We had cleaners come to the house once a few years ago and we did the same thing. Didn't want them to think we were complete slobs.
Totally. Except that's our Weds night, every week.

Morning Gents,

Not much rain yet, post tropical storm Elsa suppose to blow through later tonight. Just making sure everything is charged and watching some tennis.

@pkondz, you asked about the deck I was helping FIL with. Other than some finishing touches to keep the critters out, it's all done.

Unless you want to see scoring, that's the MLS.

Totally. Except that's our Weds night, every week.

That use to be ours as well and my question was always "Why are we paying this woman?"

It's a beautiful Friday off here. Another would be employer/ contractor has emerged in the bidding for my services. Still waiting to here from the psyc floor at the hospital though. It feels good that a crazy conspiracy nut can be in such high demand.

I've reached the conclusion that the house is not going to sell. Our realtor is a dud. DW said that she was good before the pandemic. My friends who looked at the staged house pictures online thought it looked terrible. I think the asking price was too high. And, we are supposed to have an open house this weekend (my recommendation) but the house isn't even on the company's website. I'm ok with not moving, but it will crush DW who really wanted the new house. The other possibility is to just keep this house, buy the new house, and then rent or sell this house later. Sadly, we aren't very liquid right now, so I'd have to cash out retirement investments or do a cash out refinance. It's never easy.

And if you were in the U.S., that's exactly what has happened. I've heard people actually say they can't AFFORD to go back to work. Is there a BS emoji?

My governor is "giving" incentives for those going back to work. Hmmm....you taking tax money from people who are working to give to people who are too lazy to work.

But yes, trust the government. They care so much for you.

Gotcha.
Ask no questions, tell no lies........

That looks lovely

Right have a good day fellas, off to see a man about a dog.

Cleaning before the cleaning lady arrives. Yes, I hear that from others as well and it doesn't make sense to me.

I really enjoy watching football, i.e., soccer, as 007 said, English Premier League or Champions League. I even had the Italian league on ESPN+ this year, but only watched when Ronaldo was playing. Not only is the quality amazing, but I like the format so much better. It's 45 minutes, half, 45 minutes (plus stoppage time you can learn about later). What I hate about basketball and football are the constant time outs at the end of the game for clock management.

It really is. I wasn't able to watch a lot of the UEFA championship (and won't see the final, either, dang it.) But what I did see... just... wow.

::yes:: I'd agree with that.

Lookin' good!
I've reached the conclusion that the house is not going to sell.
Sooo... I'm not dreaming, but you did have an offer that was kyboshed by SWMBO, right?
So the question is... why??

YES!

On the subject of 'American' football vs football/soccer and NFL games being long... Try Canadian. No, seriously. The field is bigger. You will frequently see 6 players in motion on the offense prior to the snap (as opposed to one, NFL). There are only 3 downs instead of 4, so there's an imperative to cover more ground/play. And it's played in about 2 hours.

Morning, boys.
Got just over an hour left of work. Picking up a kayak (rental) this afternoon and heading out Sunday afternoon for 3 nights camping with youngest (20!!) DD. Looking forward to unplugging and not working for a few.

Morning guys from a incredibly nervous yet excited mother country, At about 11 OClock tonight, I am either going to be drunk and delirious or drunk and depressed. There is Champagne in the fridge, it will either get drunk to celebrate the journey to the final or..... I can't even type it.

Have a great day fellas, I generally don't ask for the time of day from a clock but keep your fingers crossed, rub the rabbits foot do whatever for us at about 3 O'clock your time.

Unless you want to see scoring, that's the MLS.
I can see plenty of punches if I watch 2 drunks fighting but I wouldn't call it boxing, my friend 😉😆
looks lovely mate, ,enjoy the break!
Looks, er, lovely mate, enjoy the break!

Food luck to you and your country! Given my luck of late, I really should be cheering for Italy, to guarantee your victory.

Wimbledon and UEFA. Pizza and beer. It's a good day.

The buyer, literally an old lady, turned down her own offer. We got a $1000 because ended her contracted.

I'll be cheering for the Britons along with you. 2nd half to go.

Mornin', boys! Hope all had a good weekend. Had a good weekend myself once all the work around the house was done. Our house guest came and went, and will be back Tuesday night for one more night before heading out for points down south. As I had mentioned in a previous post, to get ready for this house guest, we've been doing a lot of cleaning/organizing. This was something that was much needed because we held off way to long. There's still a lot to do when it comes to the finer points of organizing, but the house, for the most part, is done. There is still a lot to do, organize the attic and basement (something I've been wanting to do for a while now), but it's stuff that we can get to a little at a time. Otherwise all is well. Oh, second weekend in a row that I had to put off a photography gig because of rain. I think Mother Nature doesn't want me to do this gig. Maybe next weekend. Supposed to be working from home today and tomorrow, but that could change if enough people call out sick and I'm needed elsewhere. I'll find out in about 20 minutes (from the time type this) if I'll continue to work from home or if I'm being shifted somewhere else. Well, have a good day, guys.

TTFN

Yay! Only two more days to go before a couple days off!

:thumbsup2 Enjoy your weekend.

Bet that feels good. :)

It does. The stress level in the house is greatly reduced now that things have been cleaned. We still need to do some organizing in the attic and basement, but things are a lot better.

Norm will tell you yes, Mark will tell you no.

Thanks for responding with this. I think because it is the World's game is one reason I want to get into it. I don't know, it's something that's interested me for a while, but American soccer, like you said is really the minor league of soccer/football. Give it time and hopefully they'll come up a level or two. Yeah, I know, I'm not holding my breath.

Nice!

It's a beautiful Friday off here. Another would be employer/ contractor has emerged in the bidding for my services. Still waiting to here from the psyc floor at the hospital though. It feels good that a crazy conspiracy nut can be in such high demand.

That's good that someone else is interested in you. That's gotta be a good feeling.

Sorry to hear that. Sounds like it's time to get a new real estate agent.

:thumbsup2 The constant time outs in basketball and football are annoying. I admit to not being a sports fan, but soccer is something I think I can get into. Will I watch it all the time? I don't know, but it's something that I've somewhat interested in for a while now. I'll have a lot to learn in how the game works, but I'm willing to learn.

What a view!

Yeah, I agree, what a view.

Morning all.

Hope Dan is OK this morning. That was a tough one but entertaining to watch. I thought England started well but then got a bit too out of sorts and allowed Italy to control the play. When they got to extra time I thought England carried the play. Feel bad for Rashford, Sancho and Saka, there is no need for the abuse they are taking today. All and all, I think they are setting up well for the World Cup.

DW and I have had a couple of great days away, nice and quiet with beautiful views. DS and his girlfriend and coming today for the night and the in-laws on Wednesday for a couple of days so it won't be quite as quiet.

Hope you all had a great weekend and enjoy your Monday.

Morning, fellas! Alaska was everything we'd hoped it could be. Had excellent weather, and we were surrounded by spectacular scenery and wildlife.

Norm, sorry about the house deal falling through. Hope you guys can figure things out.

CCT, sorry for your father's health issues. Hope he's on the mend now.

Dan, sorry for the outcome last night. I was actually watching the score solely because I knew you were invested. So maybe it's my fault.

Norm will tell you yes, Mark will tell you no.

I also watch golf for enjoyment, which probably disqualifies all of my other sports opinions.

Got just over an hour left of work. Picking up a kayak (rental) this afternoon and heading out Sunday afternoon for 3 nights camping with youngest (20!!) DD. Looking forward to unplugging and not working for a few.

Sounds awesome. Hope it's a great time!
