DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Evening guys.

A lot of you know we lost our dog a short while ago and while we do all miss her, it's been hardest on our cat. Tonight that hit home big time. I started playing a video of a dog and a stuffed tiger and the dog barks early on the video. The cat heard the bark and immediately went to the door to look for the dog. He's been watching for about an hour now. Sometimes we forget how much our pets mean to each other.

Jim, condolences on the losses and prayers for the families

Evening Guys,

need to play the proud Dad in here tonight, DS had his middle school sport awards today and was awarded the Male Athlete of the Year! Couldn't be prouder of my boy!!

...On the sports front, DS finished the baseball season at 5-1. 37 innings pitched and only gave up 2 earned runs. His only loss was a 3-2 defeat with all 3 runs being unearned on errors. Base runners were either dropped 3rd strikes or fielding errors. Just started AAU season and after 3 games, he is 2-0 pitching, batting avg. .422, 11 RBI. Not too bad for a start.

DD was 1-6 pitching softball this spring, but the team was really not good. She played 2 grades up and was our top player. We really need to work on improving. Pitched well though and had a fun season with a good group of girls.

Congratulations to the offspring gentlemen, and to the parents that worked with them to achieve those successes!

Happy Tuesday night. I learned another lesson today - don't eat Chinese buffet and then play tennis afterwards in 90 degree heat....

I'll take your word for it. This Team Sparrow member will not be attempting anything beyond the buffet.Jim condolences on the losses and prayers for the families.

Oh, man. What are you trying to do to us? That's so sad!
Poor kitty.

Morning folks, up early getting everything together for a lunch meeting.

Congrats to Declan.

Top O the Mornin Dads!
Thank You Boys!!!

Good win for the Blackhawks. Party on Chicago.

Good Morning All! It's been a while since I've been able to find the time or get a connection to post. Prayers where needed, Happy birthdays and Congrats where deserved and Bacon and dole whips for everyone.

Congrats to the Chicago fans on another shiny new trophy. Did anyone see that nice shiny new ring Tom Brady got yesterday. Impressive huh?....

Sorry to hear about the losses in the family.

Congrats to the kids on their wins and the bonus. Win for you. Saw the post where you went to the Sox game. Has anything taken over the bar next to the ballpark?

Sad. I am getting to the point where my oldest dog is getting there. The mutt I did not want is really going to miss her when she is gone.

Good day Dads! A bit of Chicag south here the past couple of days, our house at least, celebrating the third cup in six years. Have a good one guys.

Very sad, and I'm not a cat guy.

I was hoping for a quiet day to clean the kitchen and do laundry, but the Japanese Beetles arrived in my hops and filbert plantings so it will be another long day spraying. It is as much work to spray a 1/4 acre as it is too spray ten by the time I get everything set up, calibrated, and cleaned. The hops are general interest here. I don't think we will ever get more than about 30 acres in the state. The bittering types can be bought cheap from the out west and the aroma types are best used in a fresh hops brew so only a once a year thing. The filberts are part of a regional project. They natives are susceptible to a disease but have big nuts, European are resistant but have little nuts. These are hybrids that we hope have the best of both, resistant and big nuts. It isn't looking too promising though as they seem to bloom too early and get the bloom frozen every year.

Well you know there guys its a little known fact why European's have smaller nuts....{fact censored to maintain PG rating of board}

So I leave you with this one.

I'll try to get some time to go back a little, but things are crazy now with year end two weeks away. Got a shiny new bonus this week that was used to buy a 2009 Lexus RX350. I'll post pictures after I pick it up. In addition, there is enough left over to pay off the August trip without dipping into savings. :yay::yay::cool1::cool1::dancer:

Congrats Jim..... but what is this bonus thing you are speaking of?? I asked my boss what it was because it sounds like extra money and he look at me like I grew an extra head.

'Morning all...
Finally getting a chance to peek out of the dungeon.
There's the huge yellow thing hanging in the sky and it seems to be creating mass quantities of some really oppressive heat.
May have to crawl back into that dungeon.

Missed this when i was last over here.
That's a keeper.

Impressive :darth:

I say you go on ahead and play the proud poppa all you want.
The boy has put in some serious hard work to earn it.
All our young'ens should work so hard toward their goals.

Yes....Congrats Declan! And congratulations to his #1 Athletic Supporter, Darcy.......oh wait that didn't sound right! :)

No... no it didn't
but it certainly took advantage of the opening.

Summer hoop seasons start next week, it never ends!

While away, we had 2 family members lost. An uncle and cousin on the wife's side. Both were after long battles with illness and they are in a better place.

Hope everyone is doing well and sending pixie dust. Hoping to be able to get online more often.

Good to hear form you.
First condolences on your losses. those are always difficult.
But there was a lot else going on in there and most all of it very good things indeed.
May far more of that positive find its way to you and far less of those negatives.

Happy Tuesday night. I learned another lesson today - don't eat Chinese buffet and then play tennis afterwards in 90 degree heat.

I'll file that away for future reference.
The lesson though will vary on the individual point of view.
The "healthy" lesson is eat better and stay hydrated.

But I suspect that the most common lesson derived would be:
Why in the name of all that is holly are you chasing a rubber ball around on concrete slab in the midst of a ridiculous heat wave when you could be sitting in an air conditioned media room flipping through the channels and sipping your fifteenth consecutive shot of bourbon?

That is rather a sad story.
Now I may need some more bourbon.

long story short...
It's something your boss likely receives regularly that you'll not be seeing hide nor hair of anytime in the future.
Best not to thing about it.

Happy Wednesday. Guess what day it is? That's right. It's my indoor tennis night so I get out of the sun with the AC on.

Yes, it sounds terribly weird that I would be promoting exercise. However, I finally realized that there is only 7 years left before the dds are out of the house. I'll write the college tuition check, but once they are out, I'm moving to another city in a smaller house so they can't move back in. I need to be healthy enough to enjoy that! :lmao:

hello all. just figured I would stop in and do some back reading. Hope you guys were nice to each other

It was enough for me to haul asa out of the water and get my daughter out, too!

Where abouts? I seem to remember reading of a couple of recent attacks off North Carolina coast? I think?

Evening Guys.

Thanks for all the comments about Declan's award and our sad cat.

Today I started the day on the east coast and now I'm sitting in a hotel on the west coast. Time to find a late dinner or normal time, depending on where you sit.

Well, beach may not be too relaxing when your swimming away from sharks. And, good thinking on that mini golf. No free trophies - make the children earn it.

'Morning all...
It's only a bit after 8:00 and we're already busting out the ice tea and hand fans down this way. should be absolutely intolerable by noon. Just adds a bit more misery to the bad news desending upon my home state.

Where abouts? I seem to remember reading of a couple of recent attacks off North Carolina coast? I think?

Three in the same general area and two of those were close in time on the same stretch of beach. Very unusual and likely the same animal. They've stepped up surveillance and it been quiet since.

I think Brett is up on the Delaware coast, so he should be fine.

You've become quite the traveler of late.
What takes you away from home this time?

Don't be out that deep flapping around and looking a whole lot like a seal playing in the water, and you've got little to worry about. Statistically, cows are far more dangerous then sharks. just sayin'...

Mini golf can be a whole lot of fun. We like to get a couple rounds in on beach trips especially. The only bad thing is when you get a very noisy and fast moving group right behind you. Best to just sit and let them go on ahead, as they tend to make everyone around them miserable.

All of our provincial sport federations meet face to face twice a year and I am a board member of a charity called KidSport Canada, we are meeting here as well.

Stopping in to say hey and check up on everyone. Heat here has been a bit much this week - baking oven hot. DW asks what am I gonna do when on the cruise?
  1. Ain't this stifling in the Caribbean, the air moves
  2. Pools and oceans everywhere
  3. Most important, cold adult beverages from the time I get up to time we go to sleep

It was a nice Thursday, until it started raining. But, I was able to get the grass cut.

Funny how stats are that way. For example, drunk walking is way more lethal than drunk driving.
