DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Good information Darcy. Thanks. Makes me feel a heck of a lot better about what we're doing. We're really hitting the benchmarks that I saw listed in there for the age groups we're working with. She is definitely trying to get way too advanced for the level of these kids.

Some people think that you need to teach sport specific skills as soon as kids start, well if you can run, throw or jump it's pretty hard to to play just about anything. You need to focus on overall sport skills otherwise you create the environment for injuries in with kids. Just look at the rash of kids in their early teens having Tommy John surgery. There is no need for that to happen if things are done properly. Everyone likes to win but it shouldn't be win at all costs.

Totally PO'ed right now. The bags were supposed to arrive 7:00am their time but as you can guess, they didn't show. Cathay Pacific's number doesn't get me someone I can get an answer from and AA is totally useless. She is getting on a ferry to head to the camp wearing the same clothes she has had on for 2 days. The guy that is in charge of the site is staying in Sarong for another couple of days so if it shows up tomorrow (as they promised), he will pick them up. If it doesn't I will file a claim. I also bought trip insurance so between the two, we might come close to replacement costs. There is about &1,800 in scuba gear alone.

I hope you read your policies verrrrrry closely. I seem to recall reading something about airlines reimbursing only up to a set amount... and it wasn't a lot.

Cooked fresh salmon for dinner. It was terrific.

"It's psychotic!"

But congrats are still in order. New horizons await.
Besides, any foolishness that results in the added enjoyment of a fine slab of cow and a hearty beer can't be all bad.

Yes, steak and draft beer. When I retire and get that kegerator, I may just stay intoxicated all day long.

Thanks for the support guys. I really want to just tell her off, but really, if nobody else wants to say anything I just feel almost like it will be pointless and cause more issues. Truthfully though, on the field I don't even hear what is coming from the stands, nor do I care. But the fact that DW was so mad and shaken up by it is really what had me seeing red last night. There's really no need for yelling put downs at kids that age trying to play a game. It is just absurd and uncalled for.

Even if you tell her off, she won't be smart enough to get it.

Top O the Morning Dads!

Congrats Norm on DD's graduation / heading to Middle School.

Thanks. Another year older means another year towards retirement.

On another subject - Stanley Cup - do we need to even ask who you're cheering for? How many games?

Hate to hear about the scuba gear and hope the insurance helps. Can she replace the equipment there somehow?

That bites CJ, I hope they get it to her. Will the loss of the gear hurt her ability to work on the project?

Travel insurance will pay $1,000 and the AA website says they are liable up to $3,500. No idea what CP is but if it isn't close, I will raise holy hell with AA. Hopefully it won't get that far and the bags arrive tomorrow and she gets them the next day. Insurance will cover a change of clothes and basic personal items like toothbrush... The issue is where she is going doesn't have a JC Penny around the corner.

Norm, dinner sounds good if you like fish. One of the main problems of growing up a Catholic kid was the no meat Friday. Can't stand fish and it was a pain.

It is a full service dive operation so they have equipment available. The question is if she will get a break if she needs to rent it. There is also something about the comfort level of diving with gear you are used to. There is no way they will be able to keep her from going underwater. Talked to her a bit ago and she is rolling with the punches. I told her it was a character building exercise.

i was released yesterday and am now home. Let the Adventure begin!

Prayers for Jodi! Hope the drugs don't have you calling her Jasmine

...Guessing you guys may be tired of hearing about the Hawks, but this is a special team these past 7 years with 5 conference finals and now their third Cup final in 6 years.....

Just like the Sabres, only successful

'Afternoon all...

My cubical at work greatly lacks the feel and vibe that I got from our stateroom aboard the Fantasy last week.
Withdrawal symptoms are in full force.

Hope all are well, Disney and bacon for all (tofu and Beverly for you enemies)

I'll try to catch up as I can (work is calling first though so... you know... may not get to it)

Hope your much deserved trip provided some rest to carry you through until the next trip.

Ouch. Sorry to hear the Pirate Princess Pirate is having such a rough start but as long as she is safe and healthy the rest is details. Will be praying that the rest of her trip is all she hopes and for a safe return. The scuba gear hurts and is expensive but clothes and personal effects aren't a big deal. When I lived in The Philippines I quickly learned which two shirts and which two pair of pants would dry quick enough after washing to get back on. The rest were donated to the needy. Even back in the hills where the NPA hung out there were little village stores where things can be purchased or bartered for. Flip-flops are the basic footwear if needed. Her rice and leaves looked good to me. Ate a lot of that, or something similar, and it is pretty tasty.

Uuuuuugh - sorry about the hassle for her. Hopefully the stuff shows up today.

IN 6!

"Morning all...
Hope all are well. I've seen several in need of a bit of prayer and some extra pixy dust. know that what little I can offer is going out into the great beyond. Extra bacon with breakfast if you can swing it will help a bit as well.

Oh, and beer... lots of beer.

Sorry to hear about this.
I'm always looking for something to restore my faith in business and airlines in particular...
this ain't gonn'a qualify.

A good cautionary note.
Will file that one away for future reference.

It's already become quite the adventure all around. Good that she adapts quickly.
If this is the kind of work and conditions she aspires to, then similar set backs are likely from time to time.
Being able to deal with them is a very good indicator of future success on the horizon.
you've raised a good one there sir.

I don't know...
Seems to me that just might be right funny.
Of course, with out a video, we couldn't share in the laughter, but it would be a winner on the funny scale.

Hope your much deserved trip provided some rest to carry you through until the next trip.

Thanks. It certainly helped my general disposition.
Just wish I could'a found a way to stay on St John.

Morning all. Two more days if school for dds. Today is talent show day. :furious:

Norm, dinner sounds good if you like fish. One of the main problems of growing up a Catholic kid was the no meat Friday. Can't stand fish and it was a pain.
.

Glad to hear your dd is adjusting.

As for the fish, I'm a catholic as well and had my share of over greasy fish or square baked fish as a kid. I bought the fresh salmon steelhead, cut 4 pieces, and fried in olive oil seasoned with salt & pepper and fresh squeezed lemon. There is no comparison.

You're on the record now. I'm looking forward to both NBA & NHL finals.

If you are on the green side of the sod it is a good morning so ...Good Morning!

The more I hear about the public schools in KY the happier I am we homeschool. I just need to remember that when it comes time to write the check for the books.

A nice piece of salmon is one of my favorites. I had that at several locations on our recent trip. Sunshine Seasons, the food court in The Land, was probably the best. Even better than Cape May. In-laws had the porkchop there and said it was tough. SWMBO had some type of veggie thing that she said was tasty. Not sure what the kids at other than desert. Overall I think Sunshine Seasons is one of those things that gets forgotten by many and they have some really good options there.

I agree with you on Sunshine Seasons. It is a good food court. Have you thought of bringing any of that agriculture in the Land to KY?

I agree with you on our KY schools. DW never wanted to be a stay at home mom, and I didn't think we could afford to be a one income family. In retrospect, it might have been a good idea. I could have found a third shift job and made it work.

Sounds delicious but not for me. Almost every Friday my dad would pick up a slab of fried cod for dinner. My mother finally gave up and handed me a can of tuna fish and told me to make my own tuna fish sandwich. That is when I started making my own meals.

I guess she has adapted well. Got a text this morning that she just did her first dive there and it was,"amazing."

If Orlando wasn't even farther from the parents I would rather take myself there rather than bring it here. With the issues now with mom as well as dad I don't need to be further away.

It takes a special person to work third shift. I did it briefly right after we got married. Never could adjust to sleeping days and then when I had a day off I tried to sleep a normal schedule. I think the only thing worse than third shift is rotating shifts.

She sent me a couple of pics

Nice. Glad she is settling in and safe. She will be back before you know it.
