DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Thanks to all of you who posted about my friend's brother passing away. He and his mom are taking it hard but are working through it. Knowing him, he will bounce back quickly and his mom is one tough lady. His brother was Valediorian of my high school graduation class. He was a peer and the first person I grew up with that died as a "old man." Makes you think about your own mortality.

I find myself thinking about my mortality more often than I'd like, to be very honest. I'm sure it'll be rough for a while. My BFF from HS lost one of his older brothers at the age of 34 from unexpected medical causes and my cousin died in a mountain climbing accident at the age of 42. In both cases, the parents outlived their children. So I feel for your friend and his mom. No parent should have to bury their child.

Morning all. Youngest dd returned from school trip to DC. The buses arrived back at 5:00 AM. It's already been a long morning, but the kid is wired and ready for action.

We have a relatively relaxed weekend. Kids have a lot of different Odyssey Practices in prep for the state competition and I am acting as a pace runner starting at 3am Sunday morning for people that are doing 100 mile run. Its supposed to be in the low 20s and snowing so that should be fun.

No snow here, but the temps are back down in the 40s. Enjoy the relaxing weekend.

I've had a few classmates die already - one from cancer, one from car accident, and the other from drugs. I wasn't really close to any of them, but it does make you think.

I'm currently in discussions with the fam about our potential dining options for October. Here's what we're looking at so far...
We're staying at VWL so...Artist Point & Whispering Canyon
Garden Grill
(youngest DDs bday choice)
Chef Mickey's (oldest DDs bday choice)
Sci-Fi Diner (haven't done it in a while and kiddos like it and LOVE the milkshakes)
I request Casey's Corner for a hot dog and nachos
FlameTree at AK...More often than not we hit this, so it's almost a given.
Beaches and Cream...unlikely for a meal but DW and kiddos want the ice cream! Thinking we'll fit this in with a round of mini-golf at Fantasia Gardens.
If we end up at DTD, we'll try for T-Rex since DD7 wanted it last time and we didn't fit it in. I'd like to get in Earl of Sandwich based on repeated positive feedback from Norm.
We pondered the Yachtsman steak house but deferred until another trip. I'm a cargo\t-shirt guy. We are only doing Artist Point bc we're staying there and I can change. We'll target YSH when we stay at BWV or BC.
We nixed a few places since we've done them a bunch....Ohana and Le Cellier were on the list. I may have to make run to Tambu Lounge for a drink...or 2.
!

I completely agree with you about the dining and transporting. When we first started, we planned meals everywhere. Later, we figured out it was better to eat closer to the resort, especially signature dining. Since we have been to most all the restaurants now, we select dining based on where we are staying. You can still make an ADR at Beaches n Cream and then just order ice cream. Last time, we each had a meal and then dessert. I'm thinking that maybe the next time we go there, we would get one burger, split it in fourths, and then the kitchen sink. As for EoS, the last time we were there, they had shortened their sandwiches a bit and decreased the amount of stuff on them as a cost savings measure. I thought something was wrong, and read several reviews that pointed it out. It was still good. The sandwiches come split in half. Last time, I ordered me a sandwich, DW ordered a sandwich, and then I ordered a third sandwich and shared some of it with the family.

We try to make it easier on ourselves. We'll also try to map out both the parks and meals but if they don;t work out, the meal takes priority and we adjust our Park. This year we are planning to do MNSSHP on Tues, so we want to make Wed a laid back day. My thoughts were to go over and do Fantasia Gardens late morning (my kids won't sleep in too late), hit Beaches and Cream and pop into either DHS or EPCOT.

Each trip we try to add new dining experiences. And with the ones that are at the resorts, it just makes sense to dine at them while staying there. artist Point, Whispering Canyon and Garden Grill are all new for us.

We've done:
MK:
TS: BOG, Crystal Palace, CRT, Tony's
QS: Cosmic Ray's, Pecos Bill's, Pinocchio's Village Haus, Casey's Corner, Columbia Harbour House ( I still need to get the lobster roll!)
The Sleepy Hollow Sweet and Spicy Chicken Waffle is on my list for this trip!

EPCOT:
TS: Akershus, Coral Reef, La Hacienda de San Angel, Le Cellier, Via Napoli, Rose & Crown
QS: Sunshine Seasons and too many food carts and kiosks to remember!
DW is entertaining Chefs de France

DHS:
TS: 50's Prime Time, Hollywood & Vine, Mama Melrose, Sci-Fi
QS: ABC Commissary, Backlot Express, Pizza Planet, Fairfax Fare, Rosie's All American Cafe

AK:
TS: Tusker House
QS: Flame Tree BBQ, Pizzafari, Restaurantosuarus

Resorts Dining:
BOMA (AKL), Chef Mickey's (CR), Ohana (Poly), 1900 Park Fare (GF), Cape May Cafe (BC), Hoop Dee Doo Revue (FW)

DTD:
Rainforest Cafe, Raglan Road

I really enjoyed a day playing mini golf at Fantasia. Disney prices, but fun. We made a whole day out of it - hammocks at S&D, mini-golf, food at Boardwalk restaurant, and then watch the entertainment.

:thumbsup2Evening guys. What day to feel like I am getting older by the day. DD & DW took me to the place they narrowed down to for the wedding. Need to book all the things that go with these events a good 18 months in advance so have time but not as much as one would think. DS is off at Prom tonight so combine the two and makes you really scratch the head and ask where did the time go?

Trust all are having a good weekend - enjoy
Evening, men. Had a long work week. I'm ready for the weekend!:drinking1

We are still considering some options for EPCOT meals. Even though it's F&W, I think I'll focus on the craft beer options rather than food. We'll have been at WDW for F&W the past 4 trips. I mean I'll sample some of the goods, but this time I don't think we'll spend a day snacking around the world. However, the opportunity to participate in socially acceptable day drinking...YES, PLEASE!
That's a real nice plan right there

Completely agree which is why DS got this very short at DL last week - he's looking forward to showing it off on the cruise this summer

Morning, men!

Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend. Did Church yesterday followed by dinner with friends. Slept in this a.m. and DW and DD7 are cuddling on the ouch watching Toy Story. I love that my kids share my DWs and my zeal for all things Disney!

Is this an example of the adage of "time flies when you're having fun"?
The other day at a school function, one of the other mom's asked my wife if Ashley (our daughter) was talking about boys. She's 10, in 4th grade and the boys at this point are more of a novelty. It scares the hell out of me, but I'm banking on the fact that we've raised our girl right and that I won't need to be cleaning my shotgun at the dining room table. Only time will tell!

Morning Guys,

Been a quiet weekend here. DS and I are hanging out while I fight a head cold. DW had a girls trip last night, the went to see the Price is Right (I didn't know the show travelled around).

Have a great day all.

Top O the morning Dads! Heck of an effort by the Irish last night - congrats Norm. Have a good Sunday

All we can do is teach them right, show them what is right in our relationships, pray, and hope for the best. That, and threaten all their would be suitors with shotguns. :lmao:

It was. ND played a great game. The entire state stopped breathing awhile.

Evening guys. Had a great time in CT this weekend with Tim, Carl & James. Tim, thanks for being a great host. Had a blast, looking forward to doing it next year!

Well... good news. Kind of.

DW started talking to me this weekend about a summer trip to the World in 2016.

The bad news... I was hoping to get some park time during DDCC4 when I'm in Orlando in January for a conference. Might not be in the budget with a family trip coming a few months later. Maybe a resort dinner or monorail crawl at least?
