DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
I have zero clue how to go about renting DVC points, etc.
Of course if you already have points... I presume that makes it a little easier!
There's an entire thread on here about renting points. That's actually what I did when I first came to the DIS in 2008. Rented points and then bought while there. You also happen to have an inside track to someone who's going to be renting points next year (pretty sure...it's possible we'll do HHI or VB, but probably rent). Been thinking more and more how much I want to go to Germany, so I think I'm going to start saving for that.

Essentially, you get in contact with someone who is wanting to rent out their points.
Negotiate price. Some will negotiate, some are set cost.
They send you a contract specifying terms/cost.
You both sign.
They make the reservation.
You pay.
You play.

That is the very basic overview.

Wow. Looks like my password still works! I've been gone for three or four years. Sooooo... What did I miss?

Whoa...is that...Chris? Glad to have you back!

There have only been a handful of us here on a regular basis and there is no need to race to the end anymore. Now the posts are truly deep and thought provoking.

:rotfl2::rotfl: And now...Deep Thoughts by the DIS Dads.

Well, life got weird. I had a job scare back in 2015 when some punk said I spent all my time at work playing on the internet. That was only a tiny bit true and my boss had my back, but it scared me off the boards. It didn't matter though. On 10/28/15 I was called in to HR and told that my position was eliminated. Didn't feel like playing on the disboards as depression took over, but at least they gave me six months severance. Didn't go back to work for about ten months, and for some reason during the unemployment we decided to host another orphan- this time from China. We had him at our house for a month and decided to move forward with adoption. We brought him home in July 2017. Since then, life's been a busy blur. But it's good. I generally keep my head down and plow through my work and don't have time to DIS. But I just got back from a cruise on the Fantasy and need to plan a fall 2019 trip. I realized that I'm rusty and there's a lot going on at WDW that I don't know about so I figured I'd dive back in.

Quite the roller coaster there. We're glad to have you back! And congratulations on the adoption!

Hello gents. Well, I am back. I am not eating anything Mickey shaped nor a Dole Whip. I am not riding any sort of magical transportation. I am not entering a world of fantasy, adventure or tomorrow. I am back sitting at my desk slowing trolling through two weeks of unread emails. I am not impressed.

It always goes by way too fast, doesn't it? We're still in the post-Disney blah.

I saw those socks but ended up getting ones with monorails and Mickey ear hats on them.

I got the monorail socks, too. And the ones with the "patches" for various rides. It helps a little.

Happy Wednesday. So, I know this will shock you, but my humor or lack thereof also rolls into my house with my girls. The first boyfriend's name was McGarrett, so I called him 5.0 in honor of the Hawaii 5.0 tv show. My oldest dd just rolled her eyes like she always does. Well, her new boyfriend's name is Austin. So, you guessed it, I'm calling him Stone Cold. And, I'll pull up Youtube and play his wrestling entrance song when she walks into a room. :scared1::lmao:

:lmao::rotfl::rotfl2: Dad Achievement: Unlocked.

That's awful. I never met him, but he was one of my favorite guys on the boards to interact with.

I think we would all say the same thing. We miss him terribly.

Doc pretty much explained it. I rented points from a fellow DIS Dad once. No contract, though--he just made the reservation, we agreed on a price, and I sent him a check. Done and done.

And that's how I'd probably do it here as well for those of you I've come to know....except maybe Mark....if mosquitos came along, he'd just bail and leave me stuck. :lmao:

I've rented from family a few times and used websites a few more times. And I'll probably be doing so again for a trip next November. With all the money I've spend on renting points, I could probably be an owner by now. (If I could find the facepalm smiley, I'd put it here.)

I have DVC points, so I pay nothing for them. If I paid out of pocket for Grand Floridian in the main tower? :scared1: Somebody screenshot if everyone wants the heart attack at thr same time.

I rented to Carl once. No contract. But, I wouldn't do that for the general public, only DisDads I know as a lot could go wrong otherwise.

Question for those of you that rent points - what's the benefit to doing that instead of just booking at one of the Disney resorts?
]

Go look at a hotel cost at Boardwalk for a week. Then, search DVC point charts. Find the time of year and do math for how many points. You'll find renting points is far cheaper than juat booking the room. You still have to buy tickets & food. Now, if you are good with doing value resorts and get a great package deal, then it might be cheaper that way. But, you have to go that certain time of year or get that deal.
The first time you exit Epcot from the IG and walk to the Boardwalk or Beach Club without waiting in line for the bus - you won't want to return to the value.

In a nutshell, you get to stay at deluxe resorts for far less than deluxe rack rates.

This.

Ciao a tutti, a Roma.

Got a cheeky upgrade at the hotel to the top room, we have a terrace that from one side you can see the Spanish Steps and the other way, the dome in the Vatican, so not too shabby for Danny. Just having a peroni and a Cohiba and thought I’d check in while the kids rest up, we’ve had them all over town today.
3 meals in, one Pizza, one Calzone, one Pasta with sausage ragu. All good,
All cheap.

Having fun with the in laws pointing out things that will be worse for us due to them voting to leave the EU. On a yellow card from Lady K.

Jeff, welcome back mate and sorry about the post Disney blues.

On the DVC we might start to go every other year, so I’d be happy to give
first dibs to guys on here for my points.

Have a great day chaps

Roma out.

That's an awesome view and it must be high up if you can see all the way to Spain. ;)

I was:
a) Having a Jean Paul Sartre moment, in that I was expressing the @ as a reflection of self in the post modernist age, having been inspired by the majesty of the rooftops of Rome
b) Sacking off the post because this poxy website can’t upload photos, and I couldn’t be arsed to type anything

Take your pick.

This is the reason I had children, so I could pull stuff like this when they are older. Good job there fella. Hat tip.

On a separate note, I’m going change my name to Shane so “here comes the money” plays every time I walk into a room. I think I’d like that.

Thanks for the info on renting points.
Are the points the same regardless of when you go?
So... It costs X points to go in, say.... September. Is it the same number of points for Christmas break?

I'll go with B for 500, Alex.

I think only 3 other folks here are going to DDCC7 @Cinderella's Fella , @declansdad and @budamacdvcr . If I missed any of you, please let me know.

Since we have a specific park planned for each day, I decided to try to do some ADRs (I love breakfast...mmmmm bacon) and wanted to get my favorite restaurant (Tiffins). I've made all these for 4 people, so if you'd like to join me for any of these, let me know. (I also get up early, so I got most of these early before the park opens).

1/7
7:30 Ohana's
12:15 BOG (might cancel this...not sure)

1/8
6:10 50s prime time (only because I didn't try the onion rings last time and a PB&J milkshake is calling my name ;))

1/9
11:30 Tiffins (planning on giving my ROL ticket to someone, but the meal alone is worth it)
3:00 is Jiko wine tasting for those who reserved with Terrance
6:50 O'hana's

1/10
7:30 Cape May Cafe
3:00 is dinner at Biergarten

1/11
7:30 Boma

1/12
7:30 The wave
My plan is to wait for the picture(s) and then get on the road, so lunch will be QS

Strange thing...if you select breakfast for your search, the 7:30 times I ended up getting don't show up, but if you plug in 6:30am, then suddenly earlier times are there. I guess for their search engine breakfast starts at 9 or something.

Hey Mark. Congrats on the super bowl.

There's a sentence I never thought I'd read.

Wow. That's deep.

Both of those menu choices are excellent. :thumbsup2
