Morning guys,

Had a really good day yesterday. Nice relaxing morning running a few errands while the Pirate Princess slept in. We decided to catch a late afternoon showing of Frozen at one of the malls. I knew things were going to go right because we found a parking space seconds after pulling in. Frozen was great. I thought it was well written with lots of humor and some patented Disney schmaltzy moments.

We had dinner at Fridays and then hit the road for a couple of evening visits. The first was a holiday party at a friends house. Some of the people there I see semi-regularly but many I haven't seen in 10-15 years. Lots of virtual pinching of the kid's cheek and, "My how you have grown," comments. She was the center of attention and played her role with good humor. Really nice to see everyone but a bit overwhelming because we had limited time and there were a lot of people that wanted to catch up.

Second stop was at a one of my best friends' house. As couples, even before we had kids, we used to do everything together. He developed leukemia a few years ago but is now cancer free. Took a toll on his body including losing his sight, but last night was just like the old days. We laughed, told stories (and lies), all in all having a wonderful time. Their son who is a year older than DD and their nephew were there and the kids laughed a lot listening to and joining in our BS. On the 45 minute drive home, the radio was on the all day holiday music station.

Kind of a day that puts you in full Christmas spirit mode.

Now that sounds like a great day. I'm slightly jealous. I'm gonna try and sneak in a visit with some friends this evening for some board/card games. Otherwise, I have a weekend full of family Christmas gatherings. DS makes out like a bandit each year. Already had 1 Christmas (last weekend), with 2 more this Saturday, 1 on Sunday, 1 Christmas Eve, and 2 on Christmas itself. Getting harder and harder to keep him 'believing', and kids at school aren't helping.

All the best this Holiday Season to all of you. This has been my first year as part of DDC and it has been a great place to get some laughs, support, insights and share life's joys and challenges with a great group of folks. Thank you Randall for being the chief cook and bottle washer around here. I am in the office until Christmas Eve but wanted to catch everyone before the family time at this time of year kicks in. Merry Christmas Dads!

Good morning everyone. Hang in there Brent. And don't worry about being crazy. The DDC isn't too much different from a nuthouse anyway.

Snarky today. Lots of unnecessary obsticles and dorks in my path today. I do enjoy watching the beer sail out the door though. Must be in the danger stage of grief (well, like dr banner, I'm always angry) but at least I'm using it as an excuse.

Text from brother: "Audrey said she thought I delivered pizza, not the mail"

Good morning Dads. Keep the spirits and positive thoughts going Brent - we are here for ya. Also want to thank all for the well wishes yesterday for DDs consultation on her knee and to answer one of the questions, yes tore her meniscus twice as a travel / club soccer player. We were prepped for bad but unfortunately received worse. She is going to likely need a meniscus transplant but before she can have this she needs what's called a High Tibial Osteotomy. Doc explained DD has one of the more complicated knee problems in that her alignment is way off. Long story short (I just deleted a bunch of stuff that made this way to long) this video covers DD's situation dead on - it's about 4 minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcuK2vHh4Ak We have some things to still think about relative to DD school / schedule for this (gonna have to be over the summer of 2014) and unfortunately he Orthos we have / are using are no longer in network with my insurance, so we are waiting on a quote :headache: Two major surgeries are staring her right in the face (after 3 previous) and could not be more proud of her strength and toughness though did see a bit of "scared" in her face. Sorry for the downer news, and thanks again to all for your positive thoughts.

Some luck, pixie dust, and prayers to your DD and your family.

Day 1

Today starts my first day off work for 17 consecutive days home.
I'm feeling like a member of Congress. I didn't do any work and now I'm taking a long vacation.
So, the DDC will be a place to post my inner most secret thoughts each day as I enjoy the time. Who am I kidding? Just another way to post pad.
I have been trying to figure out what to do. I really wanted to go to WDW, but DW says no way since we to spend time with all the loving family members. Like the MIl who fakes a heart attack.
I thought about lots of different things to do or ways to celebrate, but ultimately, I'm just too lazy to carry one of those out. So, I decided to just not shave for the 17 days and keep everyone posted.

:lmao:

We need daily pictures!

Sorry the bad news turned out to be pretty much worst case scenario. It sounds like she's tough if she's already gone through 3 surgeries. Hopefully she can get through the next round of surgeries and have a full recovery.

Consecutive Friday ownage.

Once again I feel I am in the wrong line of work. I thought I was doing good getting 9 this year.

Well, my job is low paying, soul-sucking, and terribly unfulfilling. The benefits are nice.

Prayers for her and you on how to pay for it.

While it isn't a knee, i had a work accident at UPS where my forearm became another elbow. 20 years later, i still have plates & screws holding my arm together. There is hope.

Yes, I would.

What? Am I the only one that has one already?

Cool. Where did you get it?

We need daily pictures!

Of me? Not pretty.

It ain't my dog. "Honey walk the dog." "He ain't mine tell the kids to do it. They wanted the thing."

And you’ll be in the right to make the statement.

It’ll do you no good, you’ll lose the argument, you’ll be the one walking the dog and you’ll likely be sleeping on the couch each time you make the argument, but…
you’ll be in the right to make the statement.
:rolleyes1

It’s a lot like CJ’s predicament where he is currently the main provider for “The Dog I Did Not Want”.

Corey, Corey Corey that is such a quaint idea but... NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!

Rob is 100% correct, do not get a dog and expect anyone but you to take care of it. That happened to me with the Mutt I did not want.

Let me put it this way...

Do not get a dog and expect anyone but you to take care of it!

In other words...

Do not get a dog and expect anyone but you to take care of it!

Finally...

DO NOT GET THE DOG!

I hope this advice was useful.

Friday staycation ownage.

Virtual pinching of the kid's cheek? I hadn't really thought of it that way, but that is a good way to put it. We'll get to hear that and I'm sure I've said it a few times, but I really try not to. Of course, I'm sure Crash preferred that to the actual cheek pinching.

Yes you will. She was a good sport about it.

Now that sounds like a great day. I'm slightly jealous. I'm gonna try and sneak in a visit with some friends this evening for some board/card games. It was a good day. Family is geographically spread out. Some I would like to see and that sucks but others I do not. The only relative I will see face to face is my SIL during Marathon weekend which is bad enough. Good luck hanging out with friends but I am sure your son is wishing for more family get togethers.

Same to you and your family during the Holidays. Sorry to hear about your daughter's impending surgery. She sounds like a tough kid but I am sure it is killing you to witness your "little girl" going through this.

What? Am I the only one that has one already?

No, Bambi has three; Toddler, Pre-teen and Adult sizes.

Present it like a time-lapse video

Day 2

An early morning wake up call from dd's cell phone. Someone called her at 8:00 AM.

Nothing much scheduled for the day. Everything has been purchased except for the stocking presents from Santa, which I'll go do today. Youngest dd has soccer. The Christmas marathon has been set for next week. Monday features a visit with my Aunt an one place and parents later, Tuesday is all day at DW's Counsin's house where her dad will be, and the the heart attack faking MIL on Wednesday. Thankfully, I'll have more than a week to recover from the Christmas phonies.

Afternoon Guys,

I hope you are all having a great Saturday before Christmas.

A good and bad one here. DS has been playing in a basketball tournament and they won the bronze medal. They had two games where they didn't play up to their potential but they were paying up a level from what they have been playing so that was nice to see. They had a shot at first if they had one their last game but missing 16 easy layups makes it hard to win.

The bad was a call from my Mother to say an uncle was being moved to palliative care and he wasn't expected to last the day. It wasn't unexpected as he has been sick for a while now but I do worry about my own Dad. I know it will bother him as he will be the16 brothers and sisters left. I'm sure my uncle will be in a better place so we can take solace in that.

Take care all.
