Well work is done for the day. Time to head home and make sure DS is ready for his basketball game tonight.
Later all.
Later all.
After ordering the new remote, I took a close look at how much I'm paying Verizon each month. With cell, internet, tv, and home phone, they've got me for over $300 a month. I think I could live with a much cheaper tv package but I'm stuck in a 2 yr commitment.
Consider yourself lucky. Over here it's: Dad always gets the plunger.
We were just discussing our Comcast bill for cable, internet and phone. We are close to $300, but not quite over it yet. Had the same concerns and dropping service. I'm not even sure we watch all the channels we pay for. We do get a lot of sports channels that we watch so I'm not sure we could drop without losing them and I need to have the wireless internet for my home office so we may just be stuck with it.
As far as what dad gets in our house, it's basically whatever no one else wants.![]()
Our cell service is separate but if I add them together, it about 250. I dont have any premium channels (and dont really want em) so thats probably the main difference. Ive considered ditching cable altogether, but DW wouldnt have it and I do like having the internet connection. If I could pick and choose the channels, Id only have about ten or fifteen. Im sure thats why I cant pick and choose.
What Dad gets
Well, its what ever is left after I ensure that everyone else get the best stuff.
Cause thats what you do.
Agreed. Except for the remote.![]()
Dad also gets to kill all the creepy-crawlies in our house, too.
Being able to choose TV channels a la carte would be wonderful. I believe Sen. McCain introduced a bill to that effect a few years ago and it was swiftly shot down.
That is unquestionably the case
And I dont much like em either, but someones got to do the dirty work.
But you do get to take out a bit of anger and aggression of the pests and varmints.
That's typically what happens any time a common sense bill that the public would get behind is introduced.![]()
I've been praying and thinking about the things I desire to teach my children a lot recently. I think I'm frustrated by the number of rules we've had to create thinking that if they had the right basis for their behavior we'd need fewer rules. DW and I wound up boiling down everything to 3 values we want our family to stick too.
1. Love God
2. Love Others
3. Do your best.
This third value has us echo'ing a shortened version of Bill and Ted's Slogan to each other a lot. "Be Excellent".
I've been thinking about this a lot and I'm curious if you guys had to boil it down to 3 things what values would you want your kids to pick up?
Ryan,
We echo the first two values you list there. On the third I ask my children to strive for excellence. I do not want them to "settle" and think that is all they have to put in. I came from a family where no one graduated high school or ever thought about college. They just settled. Good people, but they never pushed thier boundraies. I just want them to push themselves, but I have seen when I call it "do your best" one of my DD's turns on coast mode.
A little long winded, but those are my thoughts for waht they are worth.
Dang it, Brian found us. I mean, uh, hi nemesis.![]()

I understand the sentiment that "do you best" = "I don't have to try", that's certainly not what I am going for. Push yourself seems to be similar to what we are striving for. Our goal is for our kids to not just show up to certain practices but to really do their best in ever engagement, whether its practice by themselves or performing in front of a big crowd.
Whooa... am I ever late to this party.
