What is this celcius thing you speak of?:lmao::lmao: Supposed to be in the teens Farenheit here today and drop below zero in the evenings. Feel free to keep your cold weather and stop sending down here. Stay warm and safe.

Yes, they make a small converter box. I have two of them that we got when the original change over to digital happened. We got ours for free from the cable company, but I think you can buy them in the stores.

Celcius is the thing pretty much everywhere in the world uses to measure temperature, well everywhere but the US and a few other small countries. :lmao:

Morning all, it's a beautiful day here. Local weather has us at a blistering 4 F, with wind chills well into the negatives. So glad my office has 1 heating vent that is blocked by a counter...:rolleyes2

Good morning guys! Back to the real world today for me. I wanted to take a moment again and thank all of you for all of your texts, posts, emails, IM's and calls over the last few days. They were a great source of strength for us. Whenever things were getting a little rough it seemed like one of you were checking in on us.

The hardest part was yesterday at the funeral. For the first time it really hit my DD's that their Grandfather was gone. Seeing their pain was difficult for me. We decided to forgo any other get togethers besides lunch at dads church. We just came home, watched a couple of movies and cuddled. We will all be ok.

From the bottom of our hearts we are truly grateful and we thank God for each and everyone of you.

:grouphug:

I thought of you guys quite a few times yesterday, but didn't want to text you right during the middle of something.

Continued prayers for you and your family. Just remind DD's that they'll see Grandpa again some day! :thumbsup2

Wow - you must work here with me.....4 degrees here today and One heating vent in my office that pumps out cold air when the "heat" kicks on. Not to mention the window behind me that faces the west and allows all the cold wind to come right on in!

:cold:

Morning guys. We were suppose to get 3-6 inches of snow last night; Woke up to a dusting. Score. :thumbsup2

From the bottom of our hearts we are truly grateful and we thank God for each and everyone of you.

You are a great father and husband, and your girls draws strength from you as well. Continued prayers for you and your family.

Gosh, that's so hard. We're mourning with you, David. And I know you have hope that one day you'll all be able to see him again.

The nailed down bathroom. A buddy here (does not have to watch) but told me about all the methods people will try to go thru in those secured bathrooms will go to in order to dilute their samples. Apparently, they are all rigged to let the screener know if someone tried to smuggle in a sample or add something while there. He did not go into details and I didn't ask how he knew ......:faint:
We had an employee at another location get fired for tampering with a test. They check the temperature and his was a bit off. Not sure what other kinds of things they do...

Wow thank you for all of the welcomes.
Looks like I am to be known as Cliff Clavin from now on.

If I could hang out with Norm every afternoon and drink beer. I can dig it.

Does this mean i get to be in every Pixar flick? I win. Sorry Norm
:rotfl2::lmao: Welcome to the nut house. :thumbsup2

Still thinking of your family. Stay strong and making those girls a priority is the right thing to do right now.

Spent fair chunks of time today reading up on two different blogs (both Disney related. Pretty sure I got the link for the first from someone here, second I stumbled on while looking at different posts...

http://www.imagineeringdisney.com/ -these were two of the more "interesting" posts I found here:
http://www.imagineeringdisney.com/blog/2012/12/10/story-time.html

here is the other site..

Thanks! Those were cool! :thumbsup2

Glad you're back, David. God bless.

Good morning. I haven't been on for a while, so I was re-validating my membership. Seems like i've missed a lot, though (including the convention).

Welcome back!

.

Not sure I want to know. If cheaters just worked as hard as the efforts they put into cheating .....

I'm going to check this out, hopefully our history channel gets this, I've always been a sucker for archeology type stuff.

The Indiana Jones theme music is now playing in my head.

A lot of us missed the convention. I hope to make one in the future.

Morning Guys,

I hope you are staying warm today. It is freezing here again today and suppose to be even colder tomorrow, pushing -30 celcius.

15 degrees here. Let's all go to CJs.

We have our cable, Internet and phone(wife insists on having a house phone:confused3 when everyone has a cell) bundled through Xfinity. Would love to find a way to save the money by dropping cable. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure there would be a mutiny in my house if I did it. :scared:

I'm with you. We spend way too much on that stuff. But, the injuries from the revolt would cost more.

Fortunately, it is warm in my 10 x 12 office. I have the thermostat in my office and will get lots of visitors today to turn it up or down.

Question: How much do you budget for the family vacation(s) a year? You don't have to post an amount, just a % of take home pay. The budget talk continues here at home, and I'm just interested.

Unfortunately, vacation doesn't get mentioned in the budget. We just keep a separate account where we stash any "surprise" money- money that we weren't expecting that doesn't come from my or her paycheck. I tutor alot so that's what fills it up. The current debate is whether or not to raid it for a cruise or keep saving until I can realistically talk about DVC.

If I get to hang out and drink beer every afternoon, then I am the winner. You can have all the Pixar movies, just pick up the tab for my beer.

I'm getting sucked into a new series on History Channel called America Unearthed. The main researcher is a forensic geologist who has done extensive work on the Kensington Rune Stone found in Minnesota that traces the Vikings to Western Minnesota in the 14th Century. Fascinating series. He has investigated the Mayans in Georgia, giant skeletons in Minnesota (nothing came of that one), Minoans mining copper on Isle Royal in Lake Superior, and English Runes on a rock in New Mexico. Very interesting stuff and much more scientific than some of the other series they've done lately.

Sounds interesting. I just hope they don't unearth another Mayan calendar.

Hi dads. I'm making a big decision. Xfinity has ticked me off. I don't trust the other options. I'm going to ditch cable and go back to antenna tv and get Netflix. Any thoughts?

We have the converter box as we have a few affiliates that didn't join time Warner. The picture quality is better than cable, but when it storms, we lose picture. I just did rabbit ears and didn't connect to external signal.

DD is sounding a lot better. Hope her congestion doesn't get any worse.

Prayers she gets better soon.

On our cruise they ran the 5k about 15-30 minutes after the door opened to the island. At that point it was really informal. The CM told us about the course and then we just ran it. There was no finish or anything. I think now you can get a medal if you run it ( I am not sure if there is a fee for that). That wasn't an option when we ran it.

Enjoy the training best you can. I want to run for a medal, so I guess I need to target the 10K at WDW. Still, a special un-sanctioned DDC member cruise 5K medal would be cool.

Not really a tailgate game as everything is inner city, no open areas. I'll take you to a nice restaurant for some good food and drink. Just make sure you save some room for a Fenway Frank! Let me know as soon as possible when you know you will be in town and I'll grab the good seats.

What is it about hotdogs at the Ballpark that are just so great? I always get one or few when there, but don't eat them other places. I do like Casey's hotdogs too.

Thanks to all here, FB, and the Pub for your input. Everything was on the table, including selling a DVC contract. We discussed it and set our vacation budget at 10%, the same as our retirement contributions. I am the saver in the family, but I think it is important to have those family experiences as well. As for DVC, over the last 5 years, we bought 2 small resale contracts thru TSS, sold one, and bought 2 small contracts direct. I wish we had went thru resale on all of them as I could have added more points. We are doing the cruise this year, and I probably could have added close to another 50 DVC points for the same price outlay, which would then get me a lot if DVC vacations.

It is interesting. I like that this guy takes a scientific approach and he is open minded about looking at possibilities that don't jive with what the history books say.

They found a Mayan temple in Georgia but no calendar.

DD is doing better.

God Bless David. Hoping for comfort you and your family in this rough time. Hopefully you have many fond memories to reflect upon.

While your standing on the roof trying to adjust the antenna, wear aluminum foil on your head so the aliens don't take over your brain.:rotfl2::rotfl2:

We're pretty much in the same boat as far as the mutiny that would happen if I cancelled the Xfinity. I've been pushing for a cheaper option for a few years but DW just isn't agreeable. Truthfully, if there was an option to just have my sports package, HBO, and the 4 major networks plus the 3 or 4 channels that DW and DD's watch I could be satisfied. No need for the the other 200 channels.

Question: How much do you budget for the family vacation(s) a year? You don't have to post an amount, just a % of take home pay. The budget talk continues here at home, and I'm just interested.

What's that you say? Budget? Hmm, novel idea. Bills are paid, money in savings and other into retirement fund. DW handle's all of the monthly's but if I had to guess our vacations last year were somewhere around 5-8% of the income. I'm still pushing for a DVC contract so that could change.

I think most countries have a few non conforming practices, and as a scientist I'd love to see US move to the metric system. Of course that's not going to happen in my lifetime... It's kinda of like trying to get a country that is mostly English speaking to print everything in French...wait, you guys actually did that:rotfl2: :stir: I guess it's better than measuring your weight in stones like the Brits.

I'm leaving the US and OTHER small counties alone, except to say how did this small country manage to get the Fahrenheit scale on your thermometer?:confused3:

This has been my first attempt to whack a Canadian beehive:duck:

Great...just great:faint:

You guys going through tough times, hang in there, I think everyone here feels for you and is sending out good vibes.

Had to do a little working this weekend---first there was the child molester we grabbed off a plane (who was trying to flee), then there was the Jacksonville Gun Show...good Lord I've NEVER seen so many people at a gun show.

Glad I was working and not shopping:rotfl2:

I grew up with the Imperial system and have no trouble going back and forth. In fact even most kids use feet, inches, and pounds when describing their height and weight. But if you say it is 85 degrees outside it means nothing to them. It is quite funny actually, there is 6 years between DW and I and she has no idea what fahrenheit means.

For the French/English thing, that really depends on where you are. Government documents are in both but many things are still in English only.

Well the US is smaller than Canada, so to us it is a smaller country. :rotfl2:
