I've thought of starting this thread many times, but while scrubbing our bath/shower today with a magic eraser I thought that somebody must have a better way to do it. I must admit that the only way I have ever been able to get our tub completely like new clean is to put on rubber gloves and my husbands painting respirator and scrub it with iron out. It will remove all the soap scum and hardwater stains, but it nearly kills me to do it. I'm sure I look like some kind of alien scrubbing away, but the fumes are toxic. So I am asking my fellow DDA for all their secrets. Do you have

a helpful hint
cooky concoction
must have machine
super spray
ingenious idea

Well you get the picture. Please share so that we can all benefit from your knowledge.

My must have machine is the Swifer WetJet. It works equally well on linoleum and lamanent floors such as pergo. We use the wood floor cleaner in ours. I was most impressed that it dries without spots or streaks.

Deb,

I have the Scrubbing Bubbles thing for my shower and it seems to work. I can understand the fumes thing. I try to do as little in the bathroom as possible. :rotfl:

If anyone has something that will get the iron stains out of the toilet I'd be forever grateful. Scrubbing bubbles and magic eraser just didn't do the trick.

Dump a can of coke in your toilet let it soak for a long time. As long as you can let it soak. Brush it with the toilet brush and flush. It should remove the stains.

Well, I haven't actually tried this yet, but here is my plan:

We have a beautiful Ethan Allen dining table. Our evil cat likes to get a running start and jump on the table, then dig her claws in so she doesn't slide off. The table is scratched to pieces, but I don't want to have it refinished yet because she will just scratch it again. I have several tablecloths, but they just bunch up when she jumps.

Today I bought some of the rubber type gripper stuff you put under a throw rug on a wood floor. I am going to cut it to be a little bit bigger than the table and put the tablecloth over it. Hopefully when the cat jumps on it the cloth will stay in place and she won't slide and won't need to dig her claws in. Stay tuned!

Iron Out will work, but the fumes are horrible. It works great on getting the stains out of dishwashers too. Just run it through the dishwasher like you would the detergent and voila. As far as the toilet, I sprinkle some in and leave the room for awhile then flush and clean normally. We have no toilet stains.

I swear by the magic eraser....someone special wrote "HI" on my suede couch in pen :bitelip: and during a comercial I was able to get the pen out by rubbing in a circular motion - not too hard - and get the pen out. Now I use it on all stains on my furniture as well as counertops, walls, floors, apparel, bathroom soap scum, etc.
