Has anyone ever heard of this?? She has a lump the size of a baseball on the nape of her neck, I took her to the drs yesterday and he said he thinks it's a lympoma, a benign fatty tumor that can be removed by a pediatric surgeon. I've searched the internet and all I can seem to come up with are sites where people have misspelled "lymphoma". If anyone has any info on this, I'd appreciate any help!

Thanks,

No advice, just a  and some good thoughts . I'm glad it's benign and can be taken care of.

You simply have a spelling problem, the correct term is
LIPOMA
Just use that on google and you'll have multiple positive hits.

Yes, I had something similiar when I was that age. It was in the same spot. The doctors monitored it and it eventually went away on its own after about 2 years. Mine wasn't as big as your daughter's though. They must have not thought it would hurt me because I didn't have surgery.

I've had one in my calf for years. You can't see it unless I"m kneeling down so I've ignored it.

My DH has them all over his body........small noduals of fatty tissue. He has had a few removed that were in the way.

Thanks everyone for your replies!

Viking, funny you should say that because the printout that the doctor gave me spells it Lympoma!! I will do a search using your spelling ;)

DH has them scattered on his body. He had one on his chest that was bothersome and they removed it under local. It turned out to be much larger than anticipated but they were still able to get it out. The others don't bother him as they're much smaller.

I had one removed about 10 yrs ago , It was near my spine, it would come and go and the surgeon finally removed it because it was bothing me and I have had none since. good luck to you dd.

One of my dogs used to get them (lipomas) all the time. We had a few of them removed if they were in spots that were troublesome. It would seem to me that having one that size on the back of the neck would require removal.

My friend's mother has one on her chest but it sits on top of the vagal nerve and they are too afraid to remove it.

Perhaps you should give your doc a dictionary :jester:
As most medical terms are Latin the spelling is internationally nearly the same - With the exception that the endings of the words sometimes differ - And the pronunciation, of course too.
BTW, in my native language it's simply 'LIPOM'.
