we are located in a cold state so no outdoor activities. I want to have a sleepover for her and 9 of her good friends. Any ideas? Last year we had 2 friends sleep over and did the whole makeover thingy. I am on a tight budget this year. What would you all plan? TIA.

We've done plenty of budget sleepover b-days around here.

You can do a special theme or just go with a generic b-day party theme. At that age they really don't need too much structure really.

I try to make sure we have plenty of music they like and lots of appropriate movies to watch. A fun activity my girls have enjoyed is making home-made pizzas. I make individual sized crusts (or you could by ready-made) and then put assorted toppings in bowls on the table. The girls can each make their own pizza. It is an activity that takes up some time and then results in food for them to eat. Popcorn doing movie time is good, too. Really they seem to keep themselves occupied. You could make cupcakes and decorate with icing & sprinkles to celebrate.

We also do themes sometimes and they are fun. We've done Mardi Gras - the beads are cheap and you can just get plates, napkins, etc in purple, yellow/gold & green. We had the girls decorate masks on years for this theme. We've also done a luau - too cold to go outside but we turned the heat up a bit and had the girls put on summer clothes, did the limbo, played tropical music, served tropical fruit and gave everyone a lei.

By age 9 we didn't always do goody bags anymore but I do sometimes buy some sort of cool cup or glass for each girl to use all evening and then take home. Another inexpensive idea for "take homes" is to buy each girl a photo frame from the dollar store and cut a photo mat from card stock. Gather some stickers, markers and magazines. Let the girls cut words from the magazines and create a collage on the mat. Then take a group photo, print copies from your home printer (or make a collage online at Walgreens and pick up in an hour). You can assemble the photo, mat and frame and give each girls a cute "goody" for less than $2 each.

Good luck and have fun! I hope you all get some sleep.

My dd has had a lot of B-day sleepovers. She just turned 13 and is having another in about a week. Anyway we've always had pretty basic parties. Usually just cook up some frozen pizzas and they would decorate cupcakes or cookies. They would play games like musical chairs, dance, play games and watch movies and of course the pineatta (sp), my dd still likes candy all the time. They always have such a great time! Good Luck!

We've done several sleepovers since I have 2 girls near this age.
One of their favorite things was making nightshirts. I got a couple of
packs of men's t-shirts and made iron ons on the computer - you can
get the iron on paper @ Walmart - that said "Lizzy's Sleepover 2008"
It had a tie-dye background. I put this on the front of the shirts.
I did the iron on part a week before the party - then as the girls arrived,
they painted their name and a few other little things with stamps on the
back of the shirt. We laid them out to dry and by bedtime, they were ready.
I had all the girls wear them and took tons of pictures. We did the pictures
through Walgreens with a birthday border and sent one to each girl with their
thank you note!

We also did home made glitter gel - just mix aloe vera gel and fine glitter.
Each girl made their own and put it in a plastic take out cup with a lid.

The old stand by of letting them do each other's make up and hair and perform
karoke is always good. My girls have said that they would rather have the time
to be alone with the other girls than to have constant activities planned.

Well, I was going to say most everything that was listed above already. My DD would love making and decorating cupcakes and doing pizzas. Movie time is always a fun. You can send out a RSVP poll with a list of three movies and get the ones that are checked. With three movies (rented or from the library which is free!)its not over kill and they could probably watch them all if they were all picked.

you can get some shirts at Walmart or Michaels and a tie dye kit. that is always fun. Or they can make mini scrapbooks. Gather some supplies and take pictures as they arrive with the birthday girl and each girl can make two one for them and one for the birthday girl. That way she has a page from each friend from their prospective.

We are thinking about Fashion show theme this year. Gather a bunch of costume type clothing, (or find cool fun stuff at thrift stores CHEAP!) and set up a "studio" in the house and have a photo shoot. Then you can put the pictures on cds from your home computer (or store) for each girl. At nine I think this still might be fun for them. My dd will be 8 on Feb 7th.
