...hopefully! It's a college trip for 3 nights so if they're delayed for too long because of the weather it'll hardly be worth going! They've left for Heathrow and are due to fly out at 14:00.

According to the VA website their flight is still expected to depart as scheduled, and they don't seem to have cancelled any yesterday. The newspapers and tv/radio news imply everything's at a standstill, so it's hard to know what to expect.

I was disappointed that VA's 'news' item about possible delays into / out of NY wasn't updated at all after 17:00 on Saturday - I'll keep checking today.

Fingers crossed :)

JFK is open, so assuming the VA plane is in position there shouldn't be any reason for a delay. That is, if they're flying into JFK.

I'm sure they'll get there and have a great time (albeit a somewhat frigid one - i hope they took very warm clothing - New York is a walking town).

i second the warm clothes option ! saw the news pictures this morning and it certainly looks very chilly

The VA planes yesterday got delayed and then diverted to DC so did eventually make it. Hope your DD gets there ok.
We got stuck on the tarmac at JFK in Feb 2003 with a sudden snow storm for over 6 hours! The flight was shorter than the time we spent on the ground.

Claire ;)

Just checked the VA website and the VS003 dep at 1400 has been cancelled, so guessing that they may have combined flights maybe with the VS009.

Claire ;)

Hope she has a good trip

Just logged on at work to check the VA site and saw this :(

I've sent a text to DD to see if she has any further news, but haven't heard yet what they've been told (if anything).

I'm sure they'll all have a great time whether they're delayed or not, but I don't envy the lecturers in charge of 50 x 16, 17 and 18 year olds either in NY or hanging around Heathrow! ;)

OMG....i didn't realize that it's 50 girls in a group....well at least there's enough of them to keep each other occupied...

it makes sense that they might be able to combine two flights, since there probably aren't that many people flying to new york on a monday in February...
i'll keep my fingers crossed for them....i hope they didn't have anything scheduled for this evening in new york....

It's a mixed group of 50 - not sure if that's better or worse than a group of all girls! ;)

DD has told me that VA are trying to get them on other flights but they will probably have to go in smaller groups.

Their itinerary included a visit this evening to the Empire State Building to see the city by night :(

Oh dear the view from the Empire State at night is great, hoefully they can fit it in another night.

oh dear, how terribly disappointing for them....and to have to travel in smaller groups is also upsetting, although they'll possibly view it as an adventure.....
but they'll have to meet up again at the other end, which adds to the whole difficulty...

i'm so sorry your daughter had such bad luck.....from what i've heard, they haven't even had winter this year until now....

but hopefully your daughter and her group will get there....i still have my fingers crossed...

Just heard from DD and she's been told she'll be on the 8:30pm flight.

I don't know whether they're all on this flight or not, but this one goes to Newark, not JFK, so I hope they all manage to meet up somehow/somewhere!

Typical teenager - she seems quite excited by the fact they've been given meal vouchers

i had to laugh about the meal voucher comment...that is sooooooooo true....

well i assume she knows what hotel they need to get to in New York, just in case they have to make it there on their own....

i'm sure this whole thing will indeed be a great adventure for her...they'll probably talk about this for years to come....

Yes, she does know the hotel details :)

A great adventure for the students to talk about for years, but the staff in charge of them could be in therapy for years ;)
