How can I make it special and a bit magical? I know about the button.

You can order a cake to be delivered to your room (if you are staying on-site). They have many variations to choose from or you can create your own design. Those do get pricey. You can also order one when you show up for an ADR at one of the TS restaurants, if you are eating at one that day.
I also booked an Illuminations Cruise for my DH's birthday last time we were there. Private pontoon boat just for our party with balloons and a banner and snacks and non-alcoholic drinks on board (snacks and drinks were an extra charge, I think). But we had a great view of the fireworks and a great time. There are other cruises that are around MK instead of EPCOT, but that's our favorite park, though probably not for an 11 y/o. Whatever you do, she'll feel special just celebrating her birthday at Disney World!

Have a grand daughter who will be turning 9 at Disney (Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise).

Interested in this as well. I believe that if you make ADR for restaurants, and let them know.. that there is some pixie dust.
Would love to know which restaurants are better for this!

I took my DD when she was 10 or her birthday and I'm taking my DS in September for his 8th.

Just going with me and not the rest if the clan is the best part of the entire thing because we are a family of six. We get a few days alone to connect and share some special time together which is very rare.

For my DD, we had a fun dinner at Garden Grill and I ordered a special cake for her. They made a big fuss which was cute. I think we got a cupcake at each TS meal too. She had the pin and everyone made sure to say Happy Birthday.

When we got home, I made her a photo book of our vacation which she really loves.

When I go with my son in September, we have some fun but basic plans. On our last trip, he missed a lot of things that interested him because of one thing or another. My plan this trip is to get FP+ for his favorite rides and to hit his favorite restaurants. Whatever he wants to do. He'll get a button and a special cake and photo book too.

Just knowing that the trip is all for them, especially at 11 where she can really appreciate and understand the effort and cost it takes to put on a special vacation, might just be all you need (plus a cupcake at dinner!!).

Enjoy your trip! Keep us posted in what you ended up doing so we can get some good ideas.

I've been to both WDW and DL on my birthday, and to me, just being there makes it magical and special. I mean, unless you're a local, how often do you get to spend your birthday at WDW or DL? ;)

how about dinner somewhere special...is she a girly girl and like princesses still?

For DD's 6th birthday we started the day with BBB, then brunch at 1900 Park Faire, and ended the night with the Wishes dessert party .
