Hey all :) I've recently been looking into the DCP and I'm wondering if I'm missing it or it's there and I'm blind, but is there an aspect of DCP that is geared towards education majors?

There isn't really in the initial college program offering. And by that I mean, the entry level ones we can apply for with the normal program. However, upon successful completion of the program, you can apply for the Professional Internships, and THAT'S where you find the education aspect! I myself haven't done a PI, but I know that they're an amazing opportunity. One of them includes going out to Orlando public schools and working with Disney members to give presentations. Another is hosting education stations that are located around Disney's Animal Kingdom, and talking to kids about animals (like how gibbons communicate, throat pouches, animal skeletons, etc...). You kind of have to make it past the first round of college program to get to the more focused areas,if that makes sense?

I was wondering this myself. I am an early childhood major and couldn't find anything that related to education majors at all. Thanks for the info. It makes sense to me and sounds like fun!

The College Program is generally not an internship as traditionally thought of by education departments, especially those at colleges. It is more of a co-op, where you get work experience during your time there. However, it is more than simply just a co-op, because you can take classes there, network, meet leaders, and do a whole ton of stuff that you can't on others.

That being said, there's nothing about most roles in the College Program that specifically cater to any majors in particular. I will say exceptions do exist. I did my CP in Vacation Planning which gave me a TON of good sales training, and I'm a Marketing major with an interest and concentration in sales. Costuming CPs going into costume design might find the practical experience helpful. But for the most part, you are getting entry-level hourly experience at your time there, and have many opportunities to find out a ton more while you're on it. I'm on a PI now, and it's in marketing strategy, which I didn't REALLY study as much as sales, but the PI is really what gives you that real-life career experience. My fellow PI in my department was an Advertising major but she did her college program in Merchandise- know what I mean? It's about what you get out of it and what you do with that knowledge that enables you to succeed in the future.

Ahh, ok! I've heard that classes are involved, so I wasn't sure if they ever had classes that pertained more to one major over another. But thanks for the info! It definitely helped :)

From my experience, most to all of the classes were business-related- they all helped you to get ahead from a corporate perspective, to understand the best ways to think to get ahead in the business. Some of them were also very Disney based classes, but very much so themed to 'look at and learn from Disney's successes'. Definitely useful classes and they help you round out your skillset, but definitely business-related.

I was a special education major on my program and took the experiential learning course offered by the DCP. A lot of what I learned in the course are things I still use while working in my classroom today. It was a very fun course, and it definitely will help you with education related issues and careers in the future!
