DH and I are retiring and moving within a few hours’ drive of PC next month. I would like to take advantage of some of the restricted rates they have been offering. Now that we can drive, I would consider DCL insurance vs a policy that includes covering airfare and flying down a few days before the cruise. I know that the DCL policy will give you a 75% credit if you cancel for a non-covered reason, but does that count if you've booked with a restricted rate that is already non-refundable? I was wondering if anyone had any experience utilizing DCL insurance to cancel a restricted rate cabin in order to get the credit? I know that I can book insurance with one of the online companies and pay for "cancel for any reason" coverage. Just wondering if I could do "one stop shopping" and use DCL's policy in order to be covered in case something unknown happens. Thanks.

From what I have read, independent travel insurance is almost always a better deal for most people. But I really don't know all the facts and such.

We always got cruise company insurance until we started cruising more frequently and also just going somewhere for a get-away. We spoke to well travelled cruisers and decided on Allianz for all year travel insurance.

Great thing is that LAST SECOND MADE trips are covered
+1 for getting an annual travel policy. For years, we traveled to visit family with no insurance. Now that we cruise, our annual policy covers those trips too. One main reason for the travel policy is that it includes rental car damage coverage, so we’re covered on our family visits.
