Ok, maybe I just am clicking in the wrong area, or maybe I just goofed. I did not purchase travel insurance through DCL when I booked, as we were doing a couple of nights precruise, and I wanted to compare costs doing a policy for everything vs just cruise.

We don't cruise until July 2025, so I thought I had time, and we were still planning the other stuff. Well now we've got things settled out, and figured out what is refundable/credit availability and really besides the cruise stuff it's not much I'd be out that much money on. So it might be worthwhile to just buy the cruise insurance through DCL - but now I can't find how to add, or even pricing. Is it only available during original purchase?

Here are the rules for when you can add:

“The plan may be added to your reservation as an option to your online cruise reservation, by requesting it with your Travel Agent or by calling (800) 951-3532. Payment for the Vacation Protection Plan must be made by the earlier of: the final payment date; or, the date any charges on the reservation become non-refundable, such as Concierge deposit or air cancellation fees for Restricted Fares.” - DCL website

I think they asked me about it recently when I called about changing a name on a March 2025 sailing.

Its on the My Reservations page, if you scroll down a bit to where is shows the stateroom, dining, etc. In the box where it says you declined it there is a blue link to Add Vacation Protection Plan. It also shows up on the page where you make a payment to add it.

I added mine in September for a February Cruise.

No answer to your question but as a side note after years of getting the Cruise Line Insurance we went elsewhere and found that for fewer dollars we could get better coverage for the cruise PLUS our stay before and after the cruise was also insured.

Google insure my trip for coverage. You will find better rates and coverage from an agency that can quote multiple carriers and compare coverages.
(Without doing my research, based on vague memory): Does DCL’s 75% future cruise “cancel for any reason” get paid so long as purchased by final payment Versus needing to buy independent insurance (which may need to be purchased within days of making initial payment)?

Weird wording.

Insurance purchased through DCL doesn't take effect until the final payment, so yes, you can purchase the insurance up to the final payment date and use the 75% credit if you cancel for a reason that isn't covered by insurance.

Insurance purchased separately may or may not have a "cancel for any reason" option that can be purchased for an additional cost.

It is typically possible to purchase insurance separately up until just before the trip date. If you don't purchase within a short time after your initial payment, however, the insurance may not cover cancellations or expenses due to pre-existing conditions. Insurance purchased through DCL doesn't cover pre-exisiting conditions at all.

I think this was talked about awhile ago, that depending on age if you are older, DCL insurance may be cheaper. We are older but always have opted for the DCL on the day we make the reservation just because it’s easy for us.

Thanks, I guess I will need to call, as I don't have the option - no blue link.
We are sailing consierge- maybe bc that deposit is not refundable, it's an issue?

I'm just trying to find out cost so I can ccompare ins for just cruise, plus a small policy for our other activities. Or just going with one policy for everything. Complicating the issue is Myself and one grandkid live in Texas, 2 Grandkids live in Maryland, plus one adult in West Virginia. Because of the different states, we can't all be on one policy together.

Ah. If you are sailing concierge, then yes, you need to purchase insurance from DCL as the time your initial payment is made (https://disneycruise.disney.go.com/...ction-plan/?int_cmp=INS-intDCLtoDCL-Insurance):
How to Purchase Vacation Protection

The plan may be added to your reservation as an option to your online cruise reservation, by requesting it with your Travel Agent or by calling (800) 951-3532. Payment for the Vacation Protection Plan must be made by the earlier of: the final payment date; or, the date any charges on the reservation become non-refundable, such as Concierge deposit or air cancellation fees for Restricted Fares.

You should still be able to get insurance from another company.

I wonder if the adult had a policy that the cost of their cabin would be covered - so maybe not needing insurance for kids?

Since the cruise fare is split up by guest, if the entire cabin cancels, it is possible that each insured person would get a refund for only their share of the fare.

Even if other coverage would reimburse the cruise fare in the case of cancellation, it may still be useful to get insurance for children. Insurance can cover pre- and post-cruise flights and emergency medical care and transportation during the trip.

I have read that some insurance will cover kids for free or at a reduced cost, though I haven't researched this.

I did email and double check with DCL. And - sailing consierge is what makes adding it this time unavailable. There was probably a warning when I booked, I don't remember- but in any case I wasn't ready to purchase then, as too many plans were in flux - if only you didn't have to book so early for best rates. Anyway - Thanks everyone for responding.

"
Thank you for choosing a Disney Cruise Line vacation!

I would be happy to assist you.

In reviewing our reservation system, I see your reservation has been confirmed in a Concierge category and the deposit has been applied. For Concierge reservations, the Vacation Protection Plan has to be included and paid for at the time of deposit. I regret that the Vacation Protection Plan cannot be added to the reservation.

Please allow me to suggest an alternate solution. Feel free to check with your current insurance provider or another travel insurance company to determine if they can assist you with coverage for your cruise vacation"

And don’t forget to check your credit card to see if you have vacation aspects covered by as a benefit.
