As a New Zealander who has to travel half the world to get to most Disney destinations, I've been following the rumours around DCL coming to this part of the world carefully. Yesterday, Disney Cruise Line’s Vice President of Marketing and Sales International all but confirmed that DCL is headed to this part of the world with the quote: "“We will need to expand beyond our current itineraries and markets... Australia and New Zealand are big cruise markets with a strong affinity for Disney, so naturally that’s going to be a big focus for us going forward.” Disney Cruise Line has registered in Australia recently, which sparked speculation, but this quote suggests things are indeed happening. I just hope it happens while my two boys are young enough for it. Link to article.

Maybe after all seven ships are sailing. It will still be seasonal.

What will be really interesting is how they are going to send the ship over. The current political situation is tricky, but I imagine they have an eye on the Asian Disney properties too.

This is what I had suggested back in May last year:

For example, after Wonder is done Alaska and the Mexican itineraries in the fall, send it to Hawaii. It can then:
- Make a trans-Pacific journey from Hawaii to Australia/NZ
- Spend the holiday season down under
- Relocate to Singapore in February and do the one-way itinerary between Singapore and HK
- Do the HK-Shanghai-Tokyo itineraries in March
- Circumnavigate Japan in its cherry blossom season in March/April
- Relocate to Hawaii at the end of April
- Return to Alaska in May

Or maybe skip the fall season in San Diego. They would have to reposition back to Vancouver in order to do a 1 way cruise to Hawaii. Either that or they would have to just make Hawaii a stop on a much longer sailing to a distant foreign port such as Tahiti. That would make for one looooong cruise!!

I assumed my husband would want to pass but he actually seemed interested... I'd rather do land based myself as we haven't been to either country yet, but I might be into a land/sea combo.

I WOULD LOVE TO SAIL TO/FROM/AROUND Australia!!

Maybe they can build a Disney theme park in Australia while they’re at it, and free up some of the ride lines in the other parks. ❤️😉

This is something that Disney has drawn up plans for and scrapped more than once in Australia. There are a few videos on YouTube that explain the level of detail Disney got to in their planning, and it's such a shame that none of it panned out. I am sure a Disney property of some kind will happen one day, at least a decade from now though.
