DCA: drinking and dark rides

When is your conference? DCA will also have the holiday foods marketplace Nov. 9 and that has tons of food and drink options too! And try RSR once, it's pretty amazing!

I will be there the week before Thanksgiving, so I will check this out as well.

If you like dark rides, Radiator Springs Racers is worth the risk. The "thrill" part is more exciting than scary, but the dark ride parts are among the best in all the parks. The version of Radiator Springs inside the ride is really awesome, and would be even more so if you hadn't just walked through the full scale version to get on the ride in the first place.

At Carthay Circle, I would stick to the drink menu if you like cocktails. I once ordered an old fashioned with expensive bourbon, and the bartender muddled some neon red cherries and orange slices into glop before pouring bourbon over the top of it all. Their bartenders have less training than a typical hotel poolside bar, so just go with what is on the list because they cannot possibly screw it up.

That's disappointing...a fancy cocktail bar should have experienced bartenders. And a fancy cocktail bar should never do the currently out-of-favor "fruity muddle" old fashioned unless a customer requests it; an old fashioned done with minimal garnish (just an orange twist) and one of those ice spheres, on the other hand, should be the standard.

The lobby of the Grand Californian is one of our favorite rest stops. We stop at the bar in Hearthstone Lounge to place our initial order but sit in the lobby area on the couches and comfy chairs and they continue to serve us there. As others have said, you can enter/exit directly from the park except for the morning.

Oh this a nice idea. I'll be staying at the GCH next week. Do you take your first drink with you from the Hearthstone or do they bring it to you?

If it's just a beer or glass of wine we wait for it. If it's a mixed drink we tell them we'll be in the lobby and they bring it.
