I can either get a hotel 20 minutes from the track for $149/night or a hotel within walking distance of the track for $300/night. For anyone who has gone to this race, which should we do?

Is the 20 minute a walk or drive? If it is drive, I am not sure I would go for it. Traffic is miserable and insane.

If it is a walk, I would go with the cheaper one.

We always stay at Disney and drive............it took hours (8 hours from Wilderness Lodge....no that is not a typo!!!!

The 20 minutes is a drive, hotel is in Deland. Is the 8 hours leaving or going? We were thinking if we get there about 10 or 11 mid-morning, traffic wouldn't be too bad.

The traffic is always bad durning both races Race day is the worst no matter what time of the day it is race fans go a spends all day doing different activites at the track durning the day you willl run ito traffic not matter when you leave.

It will be very hot even durning the evening and bring rain jacket we get afternoon storns that time of year.

It was going....we left at 6am, got there at 2. Coming back, we cut out early to get on the road. Thousands do this but, it beats the 10's of thousands that wait till the end.

I suggest paying the 40 bucks to park at the gas stations and restraunts across from the track.

No matter what you race you go to, no matter where it is - a hotel within walking distance is your best bet. Nascar traffic is horrific.

Oh my!! I would just bite the bullet and get the hotel within walking distance of the track. Traffic will be terrible and there are some decent hotels near the track. Good Luck!!!!

Just be careful. Usually for Race weekend there is a 3 night minumum stay required. What hotel are you still finding rooms w/i walking distance to the track?
