Daytona Beach

I asked this question on the CB, but there's apparently not very many people with DB experience posting there. I'm hoping to get more suggestions on this board. :goodvibes

We (DH, DS(14), & I) are spending a couple nights at the Shores Resort & Spa in Daytona Beach Shores, after our Universal trip. We'll be there July 28th & 29th. I'm looking for family entertainment for the evenings. Something other than the usual movies, mini golf, arcades, amusements, etc. You get the idea. We enjoy comedy, good dinner shows, plays, concerts, etc. Things that adults enjoy, but are PG13 rated. Our DS thinks he's an adult already, & doesn't really enjoy typical kid things.

Also, my DH will want to hit the beach as soon as we check in. We'll probably get a later start on the evening, & won't want to venture too far from the hotel. Does anyone have any suggestions for restaurants & entertainment near the Shores Resort?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. :)

I know that in the past when we went to Daytona we always poked around the Chamber of Commerce website. It had some great recommendations. I haven't gone to Daytona in about 4 yrs though.

I know the Hawaiian inn in daytona beach has a luau dinner show. I havent been to it, but we are trying it this year. We will be in daytona june 8-13, so i can let you know when we get back how it was.

How about the Southeast Museum of Photography

I couldn't convince dh and ds to go, but it got good ratings on Trip advisor.

Not sure where the resort is, but here are a few more ideas for the Daytona Beach area.

The Marine Science Center which is an inexpensive neat little place that only takes an hour or two and you pretty much get your own personal guide, real casual and interesting.

We haven't done it yet, but there's a chocolate factory tour.

The lighthouse at Ponce Inlet is right next to the Marine Science Center

and there is a nice restaurant there called Down the Hatch where you can watch sailboats and the most beautiful sunsets and another called The Inlet Harbor

There's music, usually jazz, on the weekends at the BandShell next to the pier, but we've always missed it.

For breakfast Steve's Famous Diner is good.

The Ocean Deck is our favorite http://www.oceandeck.com/

Billy's Tap Room is a famous little restaurant we tried last time, a little pricey but worth it.

Aunt Catfishs is also a well known place, casual, with comfort country style food.

Hope this helps a little. Have fun!

oneangel,
We already have the luau booked. I can't wait to read your review. :cool1:

Snoopymon,
Thanks for all the suggestions. :) I'll definitely check them out. I really hope we can find some live music somewhere.

ETA: How difficult are the steps in the lighthouse? I'd love to climb it, but my health isn't good. Also, my guys like to spend the days on the beach. How's the lighthouse at night? Thanks again :)

Last year we stumbled across "Our Deck Down Under" and now it is a must do every time we are in Daytona. It is right along the Port Orange bridge. Nothing fancy, indoor and outdoor seating, but it is a great place to have a relaxing dinner and catch the sunset.

We live about 10 minutes from Daytona and we have gone to the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse. It is very intersting, but I could only make it halfway up as the stairs are very steep , my DH did make it to the top and said the view was breathtaking. :thumbsup2 There are several other buildings to view as well.

If you go there is a realy good restaurant Inlet Harbor not far from there that has live music on the weekends. They have fresh seafood modertely priced, along with steak and chicken. There is also a shop attached to the restaurant that is fun .

You can also take a casino cruise not far from there , I believe its called Sun Cruise Casino.

The beach is beautiful and the Main St Pier area is undergoing redevelopment.

Have a great trip and if I you have any other questions I would be happy to help answer them.

Someone mentioned the Down The Hatch restaurant in Ponce Inlet. I can wholeheartedly recommend this place. My parents used to have a condo in Ponce Inlet and we spent many vacations there. Down The Hatch was ALWAYS in our plans. I too climbed the lighthouse years ago but was terrified climbing down. I'm afraid of heights and you could see through the stairs. It took me forever to get down! We also like to watch the charter fishing boats come in at the docks.

I guess climbing to the top of the Lighthouse is out. Not only do I have bad knees & a bad back, but I'm also acrophobic. :guilty: We may still go over to Ponce Inlet to eat & look around. We enjoy restaurants with live music. Thanks for the info. :)
