What is Daytona Beach like during spring break? Also has anyone every stayed at the Nicklodeon kids suites in Orlando? If anyone has dined with Shamu...what was it like? :listen:

Daytona is absolutly nuts during spring break

Never stayed at the Nick suites

I had Shamu for dinner...He was tasty.

Ok I could only help with one but couldn't resist the rest.

Daytona is pretty crazy during spring break. Looks like they've got a serial killer running around up there right now as well. :sad2:

If you're looking for a younger crowd it's a good place. If you're looking for a family destination, I wouldn't take the kidlets during spring break--although it's not as wild as it once was.

I have boys 6 and 8 and the only place I could get a Florida destination (condo...last minute) was Daytona Beach... It's a 1 bedroom ocean front room but if it's not appropriate for kids I might need to rethink this great idea. I booked us for a night in the Nick kid suites in Orlando and we were going to hit Sea World for the day and then head to the beach. I have 24 hrs to change my condo reservation.

I have a hard time there's no other condo's in the entire state available.

I'm not sure I'd go to Daytona during spring break with kidlets, Your milage might vary.

All kidding aside. Daytona at spring break is no place for young children. I would look for something on International Drive in Orlando if WDW is not an option. There is plenty to do there. The Cape is also in range from there. You might also concider St.Augustine. Good luck.

We were choosing condo's from a sampler package we had purchased...not all condos in Florida (although I see my post implied that)! We kind of last minute decided the beach sounded like fun (we paid for our points last summer). Anyway...I don't want to shock the kids too much :earseek: so thanks for the info.

Sea World is awesome, and Dining with Shamu was okay. We did it three years ago before we moved here. The food is buffet, and acceptable. We had a great table right on the edge and had great views of the show. I am not so sure I would spend the money to do it again.

There are a "gazillion" great things at Sea World. It is worth the time!

I agree, the kids will love Sea World. I'll give some more consideration to the "dining with shamu" it was $$$.

I'm also going to check into the St Augustine area...maybe that would work instead of Daytona. I've checked the Orlando choices we have several times with no luck.

St Augustine is great and much more kid-friendly at that time. Good luck getting a good location!

A friend who lives in Florida just went drove over to St. Augustine for the day with her 11 year old grandson and loved it.. Daytona's NOT where you you want to be during Spring break! :cool1:

Thanks everyone for the tips about Daytona. I kept trying and actually got a nice condo in Orlando! :woohoo: We have never stayed in Orlando off WDW property but we had some points to use for a "sampler" condo package we bought. We also will be staying one night at the Nickelodeon Hotel (in a SpongeBob kid suite)...it will be a surprise. Now I just need to talk DH into one day at Disney (Magic Kingdom...of course). He's more of a every other year Disney guy. We did talk about dinner at the Poly and fireworks from the Poly adn DTD. We plan on one day at Sea World and we want to take 1 or 2 beach day trips. What's a good beach to go to with a family near Orlando?

We will drive to the beach for the day. Any family friendly beach will work... :sunny:

What about Cocoa Beach? Nothing too exciting going on there, but it's family friendly.

Glad you chose not to go to Daytona. I wouldn't go there ANY TIME of the year.

I'm glad for the advice about Daytona. I can't believe we be heading to Florida in 3 days and I'm still making plans. The resort we are staying at is called the Fountains and it's near Lake Eve on Internatinal Dr. We made one trip to Cocoa Beach in Sept of 98 (around the time of hurricane George) and I don't remember anyone even being at the beach ( it was windy). Maybe we could go to Kennedy Space center too. We could go to the Tampa side too if it's not too far...?
