Daytona Area Hotels?

Well our ressie is for Sunday and we were just going to do the whole drive that day. Especially since my husband is on call this week. However he was able to switch the weekend with his friend at work. So now we are planning on leaving Saturday and getting most the way down there then spending the night at wherever.
We will be coming from Charlotte, NC and thinking of maybe Daytona Beach. Anyone know of !!cheap!!, and nice enough for the price, hotels?
Any other areas and hotel suggestions are welcomed.

We've stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn across from the speedway and we really liked it. All of the ones near the speedway seem nice. We're going for a few days in January and from the reviews - I'm leary of a lot of the cheaper ones on the beach. We're a family of 5 so we can't get into a basic hotel room or I'd try the Plaza or holiday inn. Otherwise we're thinking of comfort inn or a Wyndham.
