Daytona 500

My husband and son are going to the race this year on Feb. 18. It was my way of getting him to go to Florida...my sister and her family moved to Orlando last year and I've been wanting to visit them. She and my niece also both work at WDW...sister at the American Adventure gift shop in EPCOT and my niece is at the MGM Studios in one of the embroidery shops.
Anyways, husband agreed to a 10 day vacation staying with them if he could go to the race...I said sure no problem;)
He gets what he wants and I get what I want...WDW:banana:

we aren't that hardcore lol. (mostly cuz I can't get that much time off of work)

We do Busch and Cup, which prior to that will be 4 days at Disney and a Pirate and Princess party lol.

One of my goals is to go to the F1 Grand Prix in Indy,...the Rolex 24 hour race..and attend the LeMans 24 hour race! I've been to every Nascar race at Sears Point in Sonoma for the last 3 years.

"Racing is life...anything before or after is just waiting..." I hope I didn't butcher Steve McQueen's line in LeMans!:lmao:

I wish...

I have been trying for years to talk my family into a Daytona 500/WDW vacation, but the price of the Daytona 500 tickets on top of the WDW tickets scared them all away.

I've been a few times as well as the 24 hours of Daytona....maybe that is called the Rolex thing now...we actually had special Jeff Burton pit passes...got to walk on the track (so freakin steep) do all sorts of fun things, (2003)....I loved the 24 race though as it had all different cars on the track....

Oh yea...rub it in....We live 10 mins from Motor Speedway and STILL HAVE NOT GONE!
My dh has never been to a live race.

He wants to go to Daytona sooooo bad. One of these years we will.:goodvibes

I am getting him to Motor Speedway this year, he just doesn't know it.:cool1:

We're doing fan zone on the busch race day (its $20 versus $95 on cup day!!!) so I'm looking forward to walking on the track. =)

Tickets are high, but we got a nice weekend bpackage at the Homestead race in November.

Anyone going to the Rolex 24 hour race?

:thumbsup2 We always do! And after that all the Nascar races (including the Pepsi 400 in July), then all the motorcycle races (including the flat track at the stadium), the Supercross, etc. etc. :goodvibes

When you live in Daytona and have a gearhead DH, you usually end up at the track for all the events :moped:

This will be our first NASCAR race ever ( Daytona 500). I am looking soo forward to it! We got some kind of fan zone passes and I have no clue what they do or where you go.
Any good advice on what to take?
We got reservations at the Laquinta by the racetrak and the price for a room was unbelievable!

Melissa-
Fan Zone is when you go in to the infield and see the pits aand can walk out to the start finish line! Really cool.

Tips: 1: get there early
2: only clear bags are allowed and they must be certain dimensions or smaller
3: only certain size coolers are allowed again they must be certaini dimensions or smaller

We are staying at WDW and driving in to the race because we couldn't find a hotel under $250 a night lol

Can you PM me the phone number to the La Quinta we may give them a call!!!!

Hey, we are going this year too. Lets keep our fingers crossed for a nice sunny day. :)

It's coming soon! We're doing a five day getaway, staying at WDW and driving to Daytona on the 18th for the race - went to the Pepsi 400 two years ago and did the same thing - at least we know the rooms will be nice! Can't wait!

If you see us at Pop say hi!!! We're doing the same thing except a 7 day getaway, Pirate and Princess Party on the 12th then Busch on the 17th and Cup on the 18th!!!

Who is going this year???

Who has been already (any advice???)

I got a free ticket last year to the Saturday race the day before the Daytona 500 itself (sorry, race fans, don't remember), and it was a blast. Advice? I had never been to a race before so was unprepared for how LOUD it was!

kandeebunny - enjoy the P&P party - I'm jealous - DH really wanted to go to that (he dressed as a pirate last year for Halloween, and had his costume all ready), but there are no dates for the time we are there - leave on the 22nd and the next party is the 23rd. Oh well, at least we have Daytona!! Who are your favourite drivers - I'm a #24 fan (no cruel jokes please!) and DH is a #8 fan - makes for interesting conversation watching races at home!
Have a good time - if you see a white Dodge Durango from Ontario in the parking lot with #8 and #24 stickers, that's us!

I'm a #17 fan and moms a #99 fan (and on occasion a #8 fan I don't know what is wring with her ;) )

We actually scheduled our trip for the P & P party!!!
